When I opened outlook express Inbox, all messages have been deleted, please help restore the same

Go to view | Current view | Show all messages to make sure that you have just selected 'Hide read messages.

If this does not help, check your Recycle Bin, the bak files which are dbx files, you can restore backups.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

If this does not help, then you will probably need my program DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/), which will extract the messages from individual dbx files, and if messages are no longer in the files, it can extract from the disc itself.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

  • Outlook Express automatically 'spam' messages... deleted?

When Outlook Express download since my mail server it automatically deletes messages, that he sees as spam and I swallowed in a folder that opens temporarily out of the deleted items folder, and then exits.  But I never find where these downloaded messages and missing persons are passed (and they are not in the McAffee Spam folder).  Where these messages go and how can I find them?

OE and McAfee do not work well together.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 at a minimum, you must disable the analysis of e-mail and antispam functionality and then remove your e-mail account and add it back again.  Then OE should work better.  Even better would be to remove McAfee and get something less invasive such as www.microsoft.com/security_essentials .  But this isn't a matter of OE you meet, but rather a McAfee publishes.  The messages are probably removed from the file and place the file is filled with zeros there where the messages were - that has been my experience anyway.  But then the OE database is not in agreement with what is actually there, and things OE even deleted messages from McAfee are still there.

  • Since the last update, Thunderbird the entire PC stops when the popup box appears after all messages have been downloaded.

The last automatic update included a calendar function, which I turned off I thought it was at the origin of the problem. But now, after you have downloaded all the messages, I usually box pop up at the bottom right of the screen telling me that I received x messages but he only half fades and the PC all jams. CTR-ALT-DEL does not work and I can't switch to another window or even click on anything in the screen of Thunderbird. The only thing I can do is hard reboot the PC and turn off the router, which allows me to start Thunderbird without anything for download. I use Windows 7 and Avast as my AV. Any help would be appreciated gratefully.

    Hi Wayne

Thank you for pushing me on this. The alerts began this morning. I had a weird 24 hours being taken in the Sky/O2 e-mail fiasco and there was another update to Thunderbird (and several Windows updates this week), so I don't know what makes it fixed!

    Thanks for your help

  • Cannot delete messages on my Outlook Express Inbox

Cannot delete messages on my Outlook Express Inbox

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, if you can and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.
