When I restart my PC Windows XP desktop icons auto arrange on the left side of the screen.

On the screen of "rearrange icons by", "Auto arrange" is unchecked. !!!

I use the app "icon Restorer" to move my icons to how I arranged the on the desktop, but every time that I reboot the desktop icons auto arrange themselves on the left side of the screen.

What can I do to keep my static desktop icons (and not self organization after reboot)?

.

Hi there, have you tried? Click with the right button on a blank space on your desktop, highlight the icons on the desktop, check on "locking up icons" and organize the uncheck'auto?

or

securityguy14

When you say "LOCK icon on my desktop items" I assume you mean to stop to rearrange a reboot? If that's what you mean, so just copy paste then whats below into Notepad, then click on "file > save under...". "in the part superior, save it to the desktop. When you save the 'Save as type' change to 'Documents text (*.txt)' to 'All Files' and name it anything with a .reg extension. Close everything and then click on the file and select "merge". also, you want to make sure to add the part "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00".» This registry setting records the position of items on the desktop when you turn off

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings" = hex (3): 00, 00, 00, 00

Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk...

Why you want to reinstall your PC? It could be that you don't need to reinstall Windows, and solutions you could solve, which is recommended.

However, if you want to reinstall your Windows, it's NOT F8, F8 key belongs to Windows and he'll fix the problems. To reinstall Windows, you must use differently for Dell steps:

And for more details, you could visit the Dell Web site and search for your model and find the method to do this, or contact technical support:

  • Remove the Windows 7 Desktop icon shadows

How can I remove the shades of the Windows 7 Desktop icon? Whenever I place the cursor on one of the icons that square shadow appears behind her.

I tried just abut everything to stop these shadows to appear.

    Thank you

The solution to remove the shadows of the desktop icon is to show the performance Options screen and remove the control of the last listed issue "use Visual styles on windows and buttons" then click on apply and then OK. This will change the global settings for Custom.

However, there are some side effects of the use of this option that removes the shadows of the icon on the desktop. It changes your taskbar to style XP Taskbar and change also a custom icon, menus, and other advanced to default appearance settings. All the settings you have previously changed must be reaccomplished.

When you open Internet Explorer, it looks great in color etc that he did with XP which is now easier to read that Win 7, I feel. Each person will have to just play with the advanced appearance settings and select the ones they like best.

So far, I'm very happy with the settings I have now and also do not have the shadow of the icon on the desktop.

Apple Mail only works when I restart in "safe" mode otherwise it becomes crazy, using all the CPU capacity without any correct output.  Seems to be connected with caches.  Any help?

Generally, if your Mac works correctly in Mode safe, but not normally, then you have a third-party software that runs at the start of the origin of the problem.

Safe mode disables most of the extensions of third-party startup and some Apple hardware, so it could be another problem for Apple, but I have never heard of your problem.

    b. see if "Lock Web items on your desktop" are checked, if checked, uncheck it.

The problem should be resolved, otherwise, follow method 2.

My Windows 7 desktop icons will be a small box around them, the box is white and has perforated lines.  Not a big deal, all simply boring.  It is usually around the last icon I used.  But sometimes randomly will appear around, most frequently the trash.

Have you tried to go to customize and change your theme?  Maybe redefine things will help the issue.  You can also try re - install (or looking for a newer version of) your graphics card driver.  You can normally find this by going to the manufacturer of your computer site, click Help, and then by entering your model number.

    A few guesses.  Weird problem!

  • Windows 7 desktop icons keep reorganize

Every day, all the icons on my Win7 desktop rearrange themselves. Usually, they move to the left edge of the screen. I have laboriously move all icons again to where I like them, and 3-10 days later, they all go left again. I have found no reason or event likely to cause this - but it is very annoying!

I have Win7 build 7100 running on a Dell Latitude D830 laptop. Standard equipment and very few non-Microsoft software. In short, it's a pretty neat system.

  • The desktop icons to go to the left of the screen on reboot.

I had already read the thread "Windows 7 for moving desktop icon", but can't respond to it because it is "locked".  So here I am.

Mine started about 4 days (after some questionable sites surf?).  All my icons have been splashed against the left side and have been small to medium size.  Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus running did not help.

I saw all 8 pages of the thread and made note that Microsoft's Watch, but only to divert tangential Seraph to start new discussions.  Nothing to help us multiplied.

I ended up cut and paste solutions of the thread to Word and seen ~ 12 different "solutions" that has worked for some but not for others.  I ignored any comments about 2 monitors or an external monitor on a laptop.  With all this, my conclusion is that the glitch must be multi-causal.

I would say that if you have a lot if the icons that group them you inside new folders to avoid displacement and the removal of several dozen distinct icons like patches are tempted.  I reduced the number of icon to only 8.

I started trying the simplest fixes first.
1 uncheck Arrange Auto did not help
    2. right click on the desktop to refresh would push any icon I had moved to the right at the original on the left and always position at a specific position.  By pressing the F5 key did the same.
    3. While holding down the SHIFT key while rebooting did not help.
    4. I had Avast antivirus but changed to Ms Security Essentials last year.
5 drag the icons so they align horizontally at the top of the screen did not help.
    6. I went to personalize > ChangeDesktopIcons and not AllowThemesToChangeDesktopIcons.  Did not help.
At this point, I was looking for in Control Panel to see what graphics card, I had (Nvidia?  ATI radeon?)  When I had the revelation.
Always to go were the following:

The Epiphany in the Panel: my glitch had only 3-4 days and I could do a system restore.  I could go back to June 21, well before the glitch.  This led to reset and my icons were returned to the position and the original size.  The new cases were there although many of the icons that I had placed in them were in their former positions.  For now, I'll keep records and reduced the number of icons.

    Hello

I am happy to know that you were able to solve the problem. Thanks for sharing the solution. I don't know that it will help other users with the same issue.

  • My desktop icons are moving to the left of the screen and reset of average size.

Recently I connected to my laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro to find my desktop icons lined up on the left of the screen on the average size.

I've always had my icons implemented as/where I want them and on small.

After right click on the desktop, I found that the medium-sized icons is checked and the Auto Align box is also checked / I unchecked those boxes and replaced my icons where I wish it and restarted my laptop... to find the icons back to the left and back to middle size!

I just spent about 12 hours to try to resolve this problem.
I use XP and I started having problems as soon as I booted up.
I tried several options.  Right-click on an empty area of the desktop, System Restore, using my free anti-virus, Avast, but nothing worked, whenever I rebooted the icons moved to the left of the screen.
My final solution was to use a piece of free software called "Malwarebytes".
I ran the scan quick option nd about 18 minutes, he began to identify items of malicious programs.
In total, there were 4 pieces.  When "Malwarebytes" asked what I wanted to do, I chose 'delete '.
I had to "reboot" before the changes have taken effect, and I am pleased to report that it does not work with gusto.
I used 'AVAST' when I first add the problem and he found several problems on my hard drive but when I asked to remove them I received a message that the last four items could not be found.
It seems these are ones I finally removed with "Malwarebytes".
I loaded the latest version of AVAST because I find it does not slow down my PC and if I have other problems to suck, I'll use what I can find.
I hope that this help those with similar problems with the icons on the desktop etc.

If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

    Hello

Windows stacks icons in columns on the left side of the office. But you're not stuck with that arrangement. You can move an icon by dragging it to a new location on the desktop.

To unlock the icons so that you can move them again:

    a. right click on an area empty office.

    b. click viewand then click auto arrange , clear the check box next to it.
