I still receive an error message when you try to download the update to update security for Microsoft PowerPoint (KB957784).
I searched night and day for a solution - even contacted microsoft by e-mail. The specific error is: Code 57F
It is displayed when I press the "get help with this error message:
It was the E-mail feedback:
Thank you for your email about problems with the download of update of security for Microsoft PowerPoint.
I understand your concern. Due to the nature of the technical issue, it was not possible for me to respond to your request. There are number of ways you can get technical information to our support team.
Understood the factor of masking - has considered it. Still, I send my appreciation in this matter. I would like to know if you think I should download the SP2 for Vista.
Service Pack 2 offered by Windows (automatic) update yet?
This problem can occur for different reasons. However, the following reasons are the most common:
- Already, you have the service pack installed and do not realize it.
- You must install another update before you install the service pack.
- You have not installed Service Pack 1 (SP1) and so you are not offered the option to install the Service Pack 2 (SP2). SP2 requires that you have installed SP1.
- Components of the system that you must have to install the service pack are not installed on your computer.
- You have a piece of hardware or software on your computer that is listed in the section "hardware and software which if present will result in Windows Update and automatic updates offers is not a service pack " article.
- You have installed a preliminary version of a service pack, and it was not properly uninstalled before that you tried to install the final version of the service pack

@ Evanston only!...
You see the effects of a hijackware infection! If you had used the computer longer, I might recommend trying to detect & remove infections. But it would probably take a week or two and I'm sure you have better to do with your time right now so I would recommend the following (which shouldn't take any more than two hours of uninterrupted time).
Cleaning a compromised system
Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!
HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation and formatting the hard drive option" (or "reinstall it Windows 7") http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7 article
NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").
After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:
4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
VERY IMPORTANT! -Online free trial Norton will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the removal tool again Norton before installing updates AND BEFORE installing your new application antivirus (for example, Avast5 or Microsoft Security Essentials, free).
Tip: Do not install Spybot again; It's really overkill in Win7 my humble OPINION, especially if you are installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
Risks & benefits of P2P file sharing
Measures to help prevent spyware
Measures to help prevent computer worms
Avoid fake security software!
If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please start a new thread in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/threads
If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.
Wish I had better news for you. Good luck & achieve before Thanksgiving 2010!

(a) update you are trying to install? (It would be better, if you can provide the number of KB)
(b) are the other updates related to Windows from installing on your computer?
I suggest you try the following steps:
Step 1: Disable the software security and then try to install the update
Note: Activate security software once the test is completed.
Step 2: Download and install the update in the clean boot state
To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.
1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
5. click on OK.
6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
After starting the computer, download the update manually and try to install it.
Note: Return the computer to normal - reset the computer to start as usual (follow step 7 in the link) once everything is done.

I downloaded the Flash Player update and went through all the necessary steps to do so. When I get to the step that requires my ID and password it rejects my entries and I can't go any further. I used the same Adobe ID and password that I use for my Adobe account. I even used my Mac Apple ID and password, but the Adobe log in reject it too. What should I do?
I keep trying to download and install this update, but it does not settle and get its error code. I do the "Fix it Troubleshooting" thing by going to the Windows website, but the problem is still there. The "Troubleshooting report" says that the "default Windows Update data locations have changed" and that "one of the most updated Windows are configured incorrectly". The report tells me that the problem has been fixed, but he didn't: the update is not installed.
Were there any changes made on the computer before the show?
