When I try to send e-mail messages in Outlook Express 6, I get an error saying "an unknown error has occurred. "Error number: 0x800C0133.

original title: email problem

I have run outlook express 6 when I hit send and receive button told me how many emails I have to come then gives me an error message like this "an unknown error has occurred. "Account: 'pop3.tsn.cc', server: 'pop3.tsn.cc', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, error number: 0x800C0133 ' I have a tsn e-mail account. can someone help me thanks

You may have a corrupt inbox.  Move all messages from the Inbox to another folder if you can.  Then move the inbox.dbx file in another directory in the message store directory (found via Tools |) Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Storage folder and files are hidden).  OE will create a new one so that should solve the problem.

Alternatively, you can go to file | Identities and setup a new identity, which will give you a new message store) and then add your e-mail account.  If it works fine, you can use the file | Import | Messages to get the messages from the old identity.

In the future see points 2 and 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and make sure that you back up your messages frequently, because cases often get corrupted.

  • connection box appears when you try to download e-mail messages in Outlook Express

I also have a BigPond email address.  I always check the emails it in case there is a I don't want to and if so I delete them, and then disconnect, and then close the BigPond homepage.  I'll then in Outlook Express to download e-mail and over the past two months, a log on window appears which shows my email address in the password box there is a cursor followed by points, which is of course my password.  I remove this item and type my password but the cursor goes back to the front of the points and so I can not download my mails, possible of course to send OK.  The box does not appear whenever I go to Outlook Express, is an intermittent problem, but when it occurs is very annoying.  I rang BigPond 3 times and the last time today said is a Microsoft problem.  I got this box appearing a couple of years ago, and somehow, we got rid of him.  BigPond say that I need to go to Microsoft and when I rang it said to go here to go to one of their technicians will cost, I didn't have to go through this time previous I had and got rid of him.  Any help please because it's driving crazy me.

I suspect that its a BigPond intermittent disruption.  OE normally keeps track of the user name and password if you have set it to do, so if you get invited to do, its usually caused by a server connection problem.  Next time it happens, then since you can connect via webmail from their Web site, then check if you can access their messages from the web.  If so, then its likely a problem with OE, but if you can't get the web access at work is, then its BigPond (because they use the same access method).  Also make sure that you aren't access OE and on the web at the same time, as this would cause a collision and could be the problem.

If its a question of OE, try to go to file | Identities and setup a new identity.  Make sure you first you have e-mail scan from any product off antivirus (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).  Then set up your account with the correct credentials and see if you can download your mail in this identity.  If it works fine, you can import the messages from the old identity (file |) Import | (Messages).

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
    http://thundercloud.NET/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in custom Mode and uncheck analysis when the option is the result of e-mail messages.

    Compact often as specified above.

    And backup often.

According to Bellsouth, name of the incoming and outgoing server is... mail.bellsouth.net
Your error message said you it is unable to connect to SMTP (which is outgoing) server, because you entered the wrong server name. Change the name on incoming server and outgoing server and see if that fixes the problem.
