When to use "Run as Administrator"?

Hello

I have Vista Home Premium on a pc where I am the only human user. My Vista account seems to be an "Administrator".
I have UAC on, but the 'silent mode' value using a tool called TweakUAC.

Recently, for one reason or another, I became somewhat obsessed by running installation executable and some programs using "run as Administrator" from the context menu of the right click, just in case where he contributes in one way or another.

So my question is, how do I know when I should / must "run as Administrator"?
It is clear that otherwise, I'll see a "permissions" pop up error, or maybe the executable I run will be block/crash?

Thank you

It is easier than you think. System and installation tools and others only when necessary and you
that it is safe. The Google link can help answer the rest of your questions. There is not 100%
good answer as judgment will always come into play.

    Hello MEM.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community forum.

As you mentioned that when you select "Run as Administrator" during the installation of a software or program you did not receive the guest account. This means that you logged in with an administrator account.

If we should connect with a local account, then only we get a guest account if we select "Run as Administrator" during the installation of a software or program, however, if we should connect with the administrator account, then we will not receive the prompt.

You can refer to the page provided below to verify that you are connected with the Local account or administrator account.

Please check the name of the account through which you are connected using the first screenshot, and then check the account type by using the second screen shot.

Click on the Start button at the bottom left and you will be able to view the name of the account.

After you know the name of the account that you will need to check the type of account and for that you can see the steps below.

    • Click Start.
    • Then select Control Panel.
    • The title of point of view, choose large icons.
    • Now, find user accounts and click on it.
    • You will then be able to see the name of the account through which you are connected.
    • Below, you will be able to see the account type.

I am trying to log on to the EZ Pass New York site, but I get this error of no reliable connection for the last days. More precisely, it is say no issuer channel was provided with the error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer. Previously, it worked fine. This only happens with the standard user accounts in Windows Vista for Firefox. It doesn't happen when I use the account administrator or IE on each account. What is happening and how to fix it? • Facebook tries to redirect my usual login page with a dialog "you must be logged in. This allows Mozilla to 'run as administrator' stopped, why?

By connecting to facebook lately (in the usual help of the login page for the Canada facebook or facebook.com), opens the usual page, but then a dialog box appears stating "you must be logged" which also provides form for email and password boxes. It seems that my login pages are redirected as I'm stuck using the original page to connect. When I chose "run as Administrator" for firefox, has not stopped this dialog box that appears and I am able to use the initial login page. I wonder what might have been past & if/why run firefox in admin mode has stopped this?

This can be caused by corrupted cookies.

Clear the cache and cookies from sites that cause problems.

    "Clear the Cache":

    • Tools > Options > advanced > network > storage (Cache) offline: 'clear now '.

    'Delete Cookies' sites causing problems:

    • Tools > Options > privacy > Cookies: "show the Cookies".

If clearing cookies doesn't help, then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other files to present as cookie cookies.sqlite - journal in the profile folder of Firefox in the case where the cookies.sqlite file has been corrupted.

  • 'Run as administrator' does not not with SP1.

I have updated several of my laptops to SP1.

Users of these laptops are defined as standard users, in the past when they want to install something and I was on their laptop I just ran the application using "Run as Administrator". This allowed me to run the Setup file and install the application without problems.
Now I have SP1 the "run as Administrator" does nothing outside to tell me that I need to be logged in as an administrator.
Can I do to get the "run as Administrator" is working again?
    Thank you

  • Run as administrator does not not for files bat inside the folder names with special characters such as)

    Dear all,
I am unable to run any file beats with "Run As Administrator" when the bat file is present in a folder that has (in his name.
    For example: I main.bat in d:\test (_8july) \main.bat.
The content of main.bat is like that.

    c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C "e:\test.bat."

The content of test.bat is like this:

    echo 'test' > %temp%/test.txt
    pause

If I double-click main.bat, I can see the file text.txt being created and 'test' written in it.
If I click with the right button on main.bat and select 'Run as administrator', cannot run the file beats and I get the error "d:\test" is not a recognized command.
    How to handle these situations?

If I run as c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C 'd:\test (_8july) \main.bat' to 'Run' in Start menu cannot run little. It gives the same error "d:\test" is not a recognized command.
    If I run as c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C "" d:\test (_8july) \main.bat"" it can work and works very well.
So, the question is when we choose 'Run as Administrator', it takes the file bat as insead "d:\test (_8july) \main.bat" of ""d:\test (_8july) \main.bat" is there a work around for UAC, we can pass the correct string

    Thanks in advance

  • by using a standard user account, when it is run as an administrator, system does not ask for password

    • I created a standard account for one of my children. He installed a program that refused him permission to run. I went to "run as administrator" and should be asked for a username and password to allow him to use the program. Instead he gave me the same error message access denied.
    • I then tried to implement other programs on his desk to run as administrator and they opened, but they ask me password. Why not invite me for a username and passoword?

But the my administrator account has a password!

Log in as administrator, and then set a new non-empty password. Now, repeat the test under your son's account.

  • Error 1303 when trying to install STATA 9 (run as administrator does not solve the problem)

I tried to install STATA 9 on my new laptop computer. However, I get «error 1303 the installation has sufficient privileges to access this directory C:\windows\winSxS\amd_64_microsoft_vc80_openMP...» The installation cannot continue. Log in as an administrator... "I checked to using STATA for problems with Windows 7 and they recommend 'run as administrator' what was updated but it is advice for problems with the installation. I tried "run as administrator" when installing but I got the same error.

Can you get it someone please let me know how to install correctly STATA 9 on a laptop running on Windows 7?

    Thank you.

    Hello user STATA,

You will receive the above error if one of the following is true for the folder in which you are installing STATA 9:

    • The system group doesn't have full control privileges.

      -or-
    • The Everyone group has full control privileges.

Check the permissions for the parent folders because the permissions on these files can also cause this problem.
    The file is: C:\windows\winSxS\amd_64_microsoft_vc80_openMP

Please reply back and let us know if this can help.

  • run as administrator does not work after you use netplwiz to change the name of the account

    Hi all

I used netplwiz configure Auto loging in one of the accounts. While I was doing this, I changed the name of the account.
This action was simple and easily accessible.
However, after record change and restarting the PC, I can't use the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR option more.
This means that I can't install or update any program now. I also can't run netplwiz or any other installation program more so I'm not able to reverse the name change.
The result is always the same and I can not yet take a screenshot so I took a picture: http://postimg.org/image/71lzyigwr/
Another problem - I have only a wireless keyboard so I can't use safe mode.
Is it possible to fix this?

    Here you:

    1. keep tapping F8 during the first phase of startup.
    2. select Repair from the menu.
    3. Select an administrator account, and then enter its password.
    4. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
    5. set Windows to a point before you changed things.
    6. Once completed, plan in advance and create, test and document a spare, even admin account that you have a spare House key. Running Windows with a single administrator account takes a lot of unnecessary risks.
  • Unable to run email of announcement of Craigslist with Firefox web browser. The link works fine when you use Internet Explorer. Don't know why this problem?

When I click on send to a Craigslist of announcements of sale, e-mail software does not run. When I used the same craigslist Web page with Internet Explorer, the e-mail program runs without any problem. Not sure why this problem?

If you change your preference of mail helper in Firefox for 'other use '.... "you are presented with a command prompt to select an application click 'Browse... '. "and browse your computer for the program of choice. Even if you're already shown two e-mail programs, try to re - select the one you want to use via the method go and then try again to open a mailto link.

If this does not work, open your profile button in folder

         Help > Troubleshooting Information

and the release of Firefox. With Firefox closed, remove the file "mimeTypes.rdf" of your profile folder, and then restart Firefox and Firefox will re - build the helper, file applications and you can try again to send someone from a link.

  • Use a channel when you declare two and it changes when the program runs.

    Hello

For the use of a map of 4461:

With the use of the library DAQmx:

When I use 'Create Channel.vi' I can to use 'Ai0:1' to use the 2 input channels. Then I use the Nchannel Read and split the signal with for example a "Board index".

But is it possible to change the channel numbers 'on the fly' so when the program is running?

The same question with the outputs

When I use the channel to create for outings and I use Ao0:1 to use 2 output channels, can but I change to a single channel when the program is running. Nchan write.vi is used, and this requires 2 channels. The use of a channel will give you an error.

Is there a nice way to handel this?

    Greetings.

You can change the output to a level of 0 volts instead of what you read. It should be just a case statement and the writing remains the same.

  • Do I still need to run the Windows Firewall when I use Norton360?

Do I still need to run the Windows Firewall when I use Norton360?

    Hello

A firewall is software or hardware that checks information coming from the Internet or a network, then it blocks or allows it to pass through your computer, depending on your firewall settings.
A firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software (such as worms) to access your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from malware sent to other computers.
A firewall is not the same thing as an antivirus program. To help protect your computer, you need a firewall and an antivirus and anti-malware program.

Norton 360 from Symantec's all-in-one security service that protects your computer and your data against today's Internet threats.

Norton 360 can be functioning as an antivirus, firewall, or offer according to your settings.

We recommend that you only have an antivirus and a firewall on your computer, the choice of what antivirus or firewall is yours.
