  Not sure if there is no default restrictions you may have to substitute. Also, I think that Synaptic should be offering at least Flash 11, except perhaps the default Firefox with Ubuntu is 64-bit. If you have downloaded the Mozilla's Aurora zip package, you can try to create a plugins folder in the extracted folder firefox as shown in the Readme Adobe. That way you would the regular Firefox for Ubuntu with Gnash, as well as the future Firefox with Flash and maybe Squeak. Please note that it would be a good idea to create another profile (for eg. aurora) and switch between the two profiles for Firefox and Aurora to prevent the possible alteration of personal data. Ubuntu forums would also be very useful.

  Whenever I'm doing an update of Adobe Flash Player the Google Chrome and download the update of Flash Player toolbar. Is anyway to stop what is happening before the fact, rather than having to remove two Google programs after the download? It's very boring and that devious on the part of Adobe and Google!   I tried to install & uninstall, both in mode ADMIN I have never make it past the installation attempt, it goes directly into the error message. I think I've tried almost all suggestions of troubleshooting the ADOBE forums and even displayed in the Adobe site and they said:

  " I contact Microsoft and let them know what is happening and the message you receive. Something wrong with Vista IE8 or both. I wish I could be more useful, but the problem is bigger than Flash Player. If it's Flash Player and an installation problem, you will receive a message from Adobe Flash Player. »

  I suggest to start your computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem occurs.
  Follow these steps:
   
  1 restart your computer if it is running
  2. tap on the F8 key after that your computer powers initially on
  3. Once you see the advance boot option menu you can stop tapping
  4. use up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
  5. Select safe mode with network, and then press ENTER.
  6. you should see loading drivers and wait please.
  7. you should then be at the Welcome screen.
  8 log your computer using an account with administrator privileges.

  And try to download in SafeMode with network.

It is not a solution but I go into Task Manager (select by right clicking on an empty area of the start bar) and under the research process and, invariably, there is a 'hidden' version to use the FF. I selects & close via Task Manager and then am able to restart FF.
