whenever I click on 'control panel' or 'computer', it displays "windows Explorer has stopped working". It does not display the display of the control panel.

Whenever I want to check computer (memory) space available on each drive, click on the 'computer' logo, it does not display the response on the screen. Instead, it displays a screen with a message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" for a few minutes and then returns to the original display.  I get the same answer, whenever I click on the "control panel" logo  I need advice how to solve this problem. Thank you.

Why you are posting in the forum, IE?  Maybe the reason why you try to use the CP is to enter Internet Options?  If so, you can do it without the help of Windows Explorer (at least on your operating system) starting (using the Task Manager if necessary): control.exe inetcpl.cpl

Otherwise what your problem probably means is that you have added something new to the root of the control panel which is not compatible with your OS, causing thus the Windows Explorer (not IE) crashing.  In this case, the same way you could get in Add Remove programs without involving Windows Explorer by starting: control.exe appwiz.cpl

You can get help more informed by post on a forum that specializes in performance and Maintenance of your operating system.

    Hello

I suggest you perform a clean boot in order to check whether a third-party program or service that runs in the background is the origin of the problem.

  • Cannot open the control panel and workstation - "Windows Explorer has stopped working"

Original title - I can't open my computer or control panel.

I try to open my computer or control panel so I can uninstall something I think that may have caused a problem. When I try to do so, a window opens saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working". I don't know what to do. I think it was some game, I installed recently which caused this.

Restart your computer in safe mode by pressing F8 just before windows logo appears after intervention by the bios. And see if you can open my computer or control for safe mode. If you then uninstall the program/game where you doubt. also run msconfig and remove startup programs that you do not use frequently and do not trust. Also if you have recently added a toolbar or of any custom theme and then disable it. then reboot in normal mode and see if the problem persists. It will be useful.

    Good luck!

  • "Windows Explorer has stopped working" if I open Control Panel

Guys, could someone help me please?

When I open the Control Panel, it says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and then it restarts Windows Explorer. When I right click on any folder it says "recording of the UI language is not valid" 5 times and for a split second, it says "Corrupted registry" then it works. But I am unable to use the control panel.

I have Windows Vista home premium and Norton Antivirus.

    Can someone help me please?

    Hello

The error message says something about corrupt registry.
So, it seems that this issue would be related to incorrect or damaged registry entries.

If the registry is damaged, your operating system will not work as it should and can feel such or similar problems.

I m using the CCLeaner to clean the registry and other system files.
It s a free tool and you should try it.

If this does not work and if you notice the same question so I would recommend reinstalling the OS using the Toshiba recovery disc.
In most cases this will help you fix this registry

  • Control Panel System Windows Explorer has stopped working

When I press on the Control Panel, system, I get an error "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and then control panel stops. I get this error every time I have to perform this action. When I run my PC on Safe Mode, it works fine and I get no error and I'm able to run the options that appear when the 'Systems' option is selected. Other tasks in the control panel seem to work correctly.  I also noticed that I get similar messages "windows Explorer or the program has stopped working" periodically when I perform other tasks in internet explore, etc.

I tried all the recommendations described in of KB/269949 and KB/929135 knowledge articles and many items in the Microsoft community, Microsoft and the Internet site. For example, update the video driver, auditor of file system (CFS), Virus scan, Mode safe, clean boot, memory RAM test, etc.. I also tried all the relevant actions I could think under the Microsoft Fix tool. Each of them has not solved the problem.

I have a laptop Acer Aspire 5742 G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 with 8 GB of memory, running Windows 7 with all the latest updates installed, so all drivers have been updated. I also use the last IE 11 with all updates.

If anyone knows a similar problem with Windows 7, Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer 11, or has a recommendation how to fix?

    Hi Ravi,

This is an update to my problem. It might be useful to others with similar problems.

My problem has not been resolved, but I decided to live with it. It was a difficult decision after a major disaster, I almost lost everything on my PC to try and solve the problem.

I put the finger on the problem with the graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 version 8.741.1.5000 dated dated 25/08/2010 driver. I noticed that when I check for an update using Control Panel, Device Manager, select the graphics card above and updates, windows comes back with a message indicating that it is the best available driver.

I made the mistake to check the AMD website to see if there is a newer driver. According to their instructions and download their program, they recommended a more recent drive using the catalyst for AMD. The new driver is Version 14.301.1001.0 dated 15/09/2014 date. The same driver is also selected if I the Slimdrivers application user. With this new driver, the problem disappeared. In other words, I was able to use the Control Panel, System menu and access the submenus system without any problems. I thought I had solved the problem. I repeated the process and checked for the driver from the Windows Control Panel, Device Manager and look for the updates. Surprise. This review of windows update back to the original version of the 25/08/2010. The problem is back again. I repeated this process with re-installing Catalyst from AMD with the same results.

However, I noticed that the AMD Catalyst, never finished the installation and the installation crashed. Updated the driver before it crashed.

My major problem occurred when I tried to restart the PC with the new driver installed by AMD Catalyst. My PC and Windows would not start. He gave me a number of errors that the problem cannot be corrected. I tried all the solutions, Safe Mode, point to restore, System Restore and all the choices given in the articles from Microsoft. None of them worked.

Finally, after many hours, days and nights that I was able to use an Acer recovery disk, I created when I bought the laptop. One on the Image worked system recovery options and I could get my PC to a more ancient date. The driver is the original edition of 2010 the year with the same problem.

Therefore, I decided to live with the problem. I can access the submenus of system using startup and entering in the auxiliary system option in the search box. I wrote these submenus.

WARNING TO OTHER USERS. DO NOT TRY to UPDATE THE ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 8.741.1.5000 driver version dated 25/08/2010, using catalyst of MCDA.

Furthermore, my assessment is that if I try to restore my PC to the factory default condition, once all windows updates are installed and I install my apps, the same problem will occur. If I did think I would lose a lot of useful applications, which I'm not sure that I can restore. I have a lot of useful data that I use for more than 20 years and I can't afford to lose their jobs. I would live with the problem until something more grand occurs. In this case, I would by a new laptop. I would make sure that there no AMD ATI products on this topic.

Thanks again for the time. There is no reason to answer, unless as described above, you have seen something new.

PS, I have an improved version of Windows 7 and do not know where the drive is.

    Try this:

    1. press CTRL + ALT + DEL
    2. Select the Task Manager
    3. go to: processes > explorer.exe > end process
    4. once go to: Applications > new task > explorer.exe
    See if that helps.

I think that norton or mcafee may have been preinstalled as trial versions, but I've never actually used them. Unfortunately I can't use the windows Explorer, so I can't check if they are still there.

We will cover all the possibilities.

    1. download each of the tools for deletion below, save it to your desktop:

    Norton Removal Tool: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    McAfee removal tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all software (including LiveUpdate and Add-ons of Norton) Norton through Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view)

IMPORTANT! => Activate the Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

IMPORTANT! => Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed the steps #4, #5 and #6 below!

    4. right click on one of the files that you saved in #1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    5. Repeat step #4 for another removal tool.

    Tips:

-Online use another computer to download the removal tool, if necessary, then transfer it to the computer via CD, DVD, or a USB brand new, never been used (flash drive), or a summer freshly updated in shape.

-Online start the problem in Mode safe computer, if necessary, proceed as above.

-Online after completing all of the above, uninstall AVG Free & reboot. Now do a new installation of AVG Free 9.0, this time select the CUSTOM installation option and do NOT install (uncheck) Linkscanner Search-Shield, Active Surf-Shield, security or the email of crawl components toolbar.

    Hi Roar4life88

    1. for how long have you been faced with this problem?
    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    Method 1:

You can perform a scan SFC and check. To Perform a Scan SFC -

    a. click Start, click programs, on Accessoriesprincipally made, right click guestand then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
A message appears indicating that "the system scan will start. Be patient because the scan can take some time.
    c. If all files require a SFC replace will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue.
    d. If everything is correct you should, after the scan, see the following message "resource protection Windows not found any breach of integrity".
    e. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Check the link below for further guidance on scan SFC - mentioned
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 2:
Also I suggest you to check if you are facing the same question in the user account new or different administrator account.  You can create a new user account on your computer, and then check.

    Create a new user account-

    Hi Mr. Minister,

Your question is still there while in Safe Mode? If so, you try to run a SFC scan for troubleshooting the corrupted system files on your PC.

To perform a scan of the SFC, follow the steps on the following link: How to use the tool File Checker system to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or Windows 7

Your computer may also be infected and needs to be cleaned in order to work properly. I suggest that you try the steps listed in the related post below with your question:

  • Windows Explorer has stopped working error - I can't right click a folder on the desktop.

This is my brother's computer, and they do not arrive in his account, only mine.  I have administrator rights, but it seems not to matter. This problem occurs only occasionally.  For example, I can right click on this text, copy it, then paste it.  However, if I go to the desktop and try right click on a folder to rename it, I get the error.  The error indicates that Windows Explorer has stopped working, when it says that it restarts, then the Office updates really quick. None of what I found in the forums have worked again this is why I started a new thread.  I think it might be a problem with the registry, then someone can please help me quickly find a solution?

Note: I can not run as administrator command prompt because I can't right click, so I can't run sfc/scannow.

We are volunteers here for the most part.

It's a shame that we don't know anything about the distressed system but it was MS Answers owners have chosen to implement this community - do not ask basic system information when a new question is asked that make problems a lot time and frustrating.

But now they way they choose to turn things around here.

Maybe this will help you with your system of unspecified of brand and model with the release of unspecified Windows and Service Pack and unspecified install antivirus/antimalware:

When the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) is wrong (especially when right click), begin to suspect third-party add-ons explore extension.  You can also see some errors of NAT (DEP, Data Execution Prevention).  DEP errors are reported when XP will be threatened by a program and Windows stops threatening program.  Windows should never feel threatened by the Explorer Windows (or Internet Explorer) to less that some add-on is the cause.

Those who would be the Explorer extensions that do not belong to Microsoft.  This means that extensions that you have added.  Solution Explorer extensions are generally well and installation of certain applications will install extensions from Explorer solutions for you, give you a choice and sometimes they can be added without your knowledge when you install the new software.

Solution Explorer extensions are sometimes added as a new right-click option, you see on folders and files (like the scan of this file, open that file, play this song).

If there is something in particular that you do during exploration that you know will be the cause of the problem, which will help focus on the problem and the help that you suddenly know, when you have found and corrected.

If you can get there when you want it, make an adjustment and then there is no message the next time you don't do anything, you do, you have found and corrected.

First of all you need a way to see what modules explore you have installed now and a way to turn them off (not uninstall them) so you can understand that we are at the origin of the problem.  You can have a lot of extensions not installed Microsoft don't even know you about.

Download ShellExView here to see what Explorer extensions you have loaded:
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/shexview.html

ShellExView does not install anything on your computer, simply of runs and displays.

After you launch ShellExView (shexview.exe double click) and acknowledge the security warning, adjust the column widths, so you can see everything clearly.  Under Options, choose "Mark non-Microsoft Extensions" and extensions not Microsoft will be pink, clear, but on some systems, which is a difficult color to see, so click on display.
Choose the columns and move up or move down in the column of Microsoft is narrower upwards (Mount) so you can see on your screen without having to scroll left and right.

Click on the header of column called Microsoft (it can be the way out of the right side of the screen) to sort the display (by clicking on the column heading in Microsoft) so all non Microsoft extensions are at the top and easy to see.  They will say 'No' and be marked in pink because they are not extensions Microsoft, something like this:

Non-Microsoft extensions would be things you have added (non-Microsoft) and are what you should be suspect.

If you see extensions which do not have anything that is listed under Description, Version, product name, company or have special names that looks like they might be letters and numbers just randomly, you might want to look at these first.

You can also Google the name of a suspect add-on and see if there is any success on the Explorer accidents or mistakes DEP and what other people have done about it.

    You can Google something like:

    Windows Explorer crash

You must complete your suspect on behalf of adds on.

See what kind of search results hits you get and are looking for solutions or situations that sound like yours.

I'm not a defender of trial and error, but I can't think of another way to do...

Right click and disable the non Microsoft extensions one at a time (or maybe in small groups of 3-5), keep a list, so you can enable them again later if you wish. The result of the change is immediate and no reboot is necessary.  Test your failure condition (right click).  If the Explorer starts to act normally, you'll know that some extension you just disabled in this group of 3-5 is the culprit, then you can start to enable them one by one until the Explorer fails again.

If you recognize all the extensions that have been added or recently downloaded, start with these first.

Disabling the extension does not uninstall the extension - it is just disabled.  You can always enable it later, so keep track of things by writing them down.

Disable them one at a time or in small groups (to make things go faster) until your right click does not generate an error, then restart and test again to be sure.   You have disabled the last extension would be suspicious.

You can also disable all non-Microsoft extensions, restart, test your fault condition and allow them one at a time until you find the one that generates the failure condition.

If you have a large number of extensions, you can disable them is small groups, 3-5 at a time instead of 1 at a time until your system starts to behave.

When it does not, you will know that the problem is one of the extensions of this small group and you can enable members of the Group at a time until the problem returns, then the problem is with the last extension that you enabled.

The hope is that you will find extensions that is causing the problem and then you can figure out what on this subject - either uninstall it or see if you can get an update of the author of the extension of their web page.

I have not your problem, but I can when you toggle extensions, the extension is immediately disabled, so disable an extension does not seem to require a restart, but if you think that you have found the problem, I reboot and repeat the test in any case to be sure the problem disappeared.

If you post your non-Microsoft extensions list, maybe someone will recognize it as a potential problem.

If you find the offending extension that's the problem, please let us know what it is that I can add to my list!

  • "WINDOWS EXPLORER has STOPPED WORKING" error every time I try to open things like 'Control Panel' and any other file of windows.

This happens when I try to open any file from windows Explorer. It began to happen yesterday after my mother has finished using the computer. I think she did something (a click on something online somewhere) and may have introduced a virus into the computer. We have only a very minimal virus protection so I see not what is a great possibility. When I came home there was some files randomly on the desktop and I went to "My computer" right now (with difficulty) and removed all the new things, she got on the computer, that she doesn't want to download (which means they came when she clicks on something somewhere online). I thought I had fixed it but now I can't even open 'my computer' because of this error. Help, please
