Hi marcus,

1. What is the full error message that you receive?

2. have you recently trying to install a program on the computer?

Method 1

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

Method 2

If the previous step fails, then repair Microsoft office on the computer and check if it works.

  • Windows XP will not stop with service pack 3

Several months ago I installed service pack 3 for Windows XP.  From as soon as possible, the system would block when I'm going to stop it.  The only cure (for a novice like me) was to put the computer manually.  Sometimes, maybe once every 15 - 20 times, the system shuts down normally.

I lived with it, but it's very boring, so I went to remove the program from the service pack 3 today, and the system does not allow deletion.  So my question is:
    1. is there a way for me to solve this problem when windows will not be stopped?  , or,
    2. is there a way for me to remove service pack 3?

    Thanks for your help!

At some point, this computer had McAfee and Norton.

The foregoing notwithstanding, Norton and McAfee applications are notorious for not to uninstall (or upgraded) themselves. "Leftovers" can be the cause of your problems:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 a above, to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    5. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 b above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot once again.

=> Did you get SP3 installed again and is the computer fully patched to Windows Update (including the most recent update root certificates)?

  • update of Windows xp will not stop running

Recently, I ran the discs of recovery and resources in order to re-install Xp Home on my HP Mini.  Everything works well except the "windows update" option.  When I click on it, the program will run forever without stopping, nor it will update all files.

    Can someone give me advice?
    Thank you, Tom

    Hey JA.

    A strange thing happened.
After failing to get the windows update program runs correctly (i.e. stop execution), I rebooted my computer HP mini and I forgot about the update... Well, when I turned on the computer the next morning there is a new icon and a message in the system tray that said I had 3 files to install.  And yet this morning there was another automatic update file waiting for me to install it. Everything installed without a problem. My history of update file has 4 facilities!

These files are obviousl recent updates from the time wherever I did a full restore of the Xp operating system three days ago.  But what of all the updates that have been issued from the moment where I bought the computer five years ago, until I reinstalled the OS 3 days ago?

  • Windows Media will not stop playing

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit IE8

Windows Media play through the video, then restarts and continues to go in the same loop. At the present time, I opened Windows Media from my office and manually close the video. Worked OK until I went back to IE8. NO, I don't want to go back to IE9. THANKS in advance.

I was FINALLY able to follow your instrucrtions. Initially, I opened what I thought, it's Windows Media Player from the desktop only to find out that I opened up Windows Media Center instead. So, I opened the drive in the list of program and the repeat off. It works very well. THANX.
  • New update for Win 7 32 - bit XP - Windows Update will not, so have to do manual updates - that need me?

I updated from XP to 7 Edition Home Premium in mid-March and have tried since then to run Windows Update, but I get the ubiquitous endless "check updates". I spent hours trying all of the fixes I could find (and understand) with no luck. So I decided to just manually download at least the critical updates, but I have no idea of what updates I need. I have Service Pack 1 and my system is 32-bit. I have 13 updates installed that I downloaded and installed in March because they seemed like it might be useful (I don't remember what most of them were for the moment), but I stopped here because I really didn't know what I was doing, or what I needed and I went back to try to fix Windows Update , but I gave that up. So, does anyone have a list of updates I should keep Windows 7 works correctly? Or should I say to hell with it and download Windows 10? I know my time is short if this is my best option. Any thoughts, advice, ideas, help welcome.

It is not too hard to do. The value of the automatic updates to "never check updates" and then restart Windows. Download and install KB3020369 and KB3161608.

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/3161608

    Then, use Windows update again.

  • Windows Vista will not stop or restart

When I try to quit or restart my computer, the screen indicates "SHUTTING DOWN", then the display shuts off, the power light goes off on the tower but increases the speed of the fan at maximum speed and the unit will continue to operate in this way until I have turn it off manually. When I try to turn the computer back on I get the same thing, the lights and the fan runs at maximum speed nothing else happens, the monitor does not come on or anything else, he just 'buzzes '. I'm not the only person having this problem, I know at least two other people who have exactly the same problem! I was told that a faulty update of Microsoft is to blame for the problem I encounter but I can't find a "solution" for this anywhere. I can do to remedy this? Need help please, I can't afford to buy a new computer at the moment and unable to restart, my computer works perfectly. All this trouble started about three weeks ago. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer me.

  • My Windows Mail will not stop sending old emails. Every time I hit send/receive, it sends thousands of old emails years ago. Someone at - he never meet this.

I called my internet provider, checked all the settings.  I have spend days trying to figure this.  Have thousands of emails coming and nothing out.  I think it's to be something with Windows Mail.  Can anyone help.  Thank you

Your topic and your statement is not suitable.  Send emails and do not receive them, or is that host them and sends them not?  You say in the subject, he sends thousands, but in the statement, you say nothing and thousands coming out.

Try to go to shipping and the view box. Current view | Show all messages and remove all what it.  Then delete your account e-mail, then compact and repair the database (using www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) and then see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 to rule out the possibility of interference antivirus.  Then open Winmail again and add your return e-mail account and then see if it works.

If not, please describe the problem more clearly.

Got it to work.  I discovered that the updates have been downloaded, but the computer needed to restart to get them set up.  PDF does not open until this happened.  By chance, I noticed a message that says my computer will re-start in two days to config updates.  I chose restart and it took 40 minutes for an update installation and config.  Fingers crossed I checked my pdf and they ran.  problem solved.

The only thing I see is that your taskbar is at the top of the screen instead of low. This can happen by dragging one of the four sides.

    • Place the cursor on the area of the bar that does not contain an icon
    • Down at the bottom of the screen, it will snap in place
    • Now right click on taskbar, and then choose lock.
  • WAG320N abandoned DSL connection whenever I connect to its Web page

It is a bit of pain the behaiviour is inconsistent.

whenever I connect to the Web page of the device a certain number of things may happen

    1. There is no connection - trying to load the page, but never does. During this time the router gives up the ADSL connection and reconnect. I have to close the browser session and try again later.

    OR

    2. the browser session connects, but at some point after the connection, say when I try to save the changes or even just glancing through the config pages the session hangs, and again once the router gives up the ADSL connection and reconnects. I have to log off and try again later.

I noticed that this happens when I use my OpenSuse 11.4 Linux Box using Firefox 5 or even my Win 7 box using IE9.

    Can anyone help

Well as you mentioned that you already have a latest firmware of the router...

And you tried with another browser as well.

Tried to reduce the size of the MTU (Maximum transmission unit) on the router... This should help (reduce the MTU to 1400, you can find this option in the router setup page)

  • Windows 8, windows install keeps flashing on the screen several times only WILL NOT STOP

    Hello

I'm having a weird bug, that I have not met before with windows install.

I tried to install a version of MS Access 2000 Runtime on my machine to windows 8 dell inspiron 660. (The company I work again to use access 2000 Apps)

The installation failed and basically the planted program without completing the installation.

Immediately after what happened the windows Setup window started blinking on the screen very fast.

I tried a system restore, the program Microsoft 'fix - it' (do not do anything), and I have restored the registry from a backup without success.

The ONLY medium to stop flashing windows setup is to stop the windows service install, but when you start to use the pc new installer windows itself will start up and the flashing continued.

I can't find a way to disable windows full installer (apparently windows 8 will not let you change the start type services.msc )

Dell technical support was also no help because they wanted me to pay the money even if its in warranty.

I'm thinking really just install xp on it and be done with this...

    Help, please!

    Hello

    Please keep us updated.

I understand that the Windows 8 bootable USB device is not detected during the execution of refreshment in the computer.

You can check the BIOS for the boot priority setting if the USB device is enabled or not. Check the steps in the manufacturers Web site to change the priority of the computer starts.

If this doesn't help, you can try to re-installation through the disk or media that you have, otherwise follow the link below.

When you buy Windows 8 an email with the download link and purchase details will be sent to your email address that you use to purchase / register your product, you can simply access email and use the download in links for the re - download to your computer.
