Outlook Express 6 problem

Whenever I have new identity in Outlook Express 6.0, I get a dialogue box that says to save space, Outlook Express can compact messages.  I received a patch of Bruce Hagen to tell Windows to stop indexing. It worked for 6 days, now it is doing it again. The box that Bruce was told in Indexing Options is always disabled. Is there something more, what can I do?

I have constant guard on my computer. Should I remove it?

Yes, Microsoft Security Essentials is installed, you should Uninstall constant guard.

[Constant guard (AKA ProtectedID) has been installed when installing Comcast freebie keeps constant Protection Suite that also included Norton Security Suite.]

Because my computer crashed and I have [done a clean install of Windows XP], when I restart I get has if you asking to the screen in black and white, I want to run MS XP or XP Ms.  If I hit enter it go far, as it does after a while if I do nothing. I never had this before. How can I get rid of him?

Although this behavior is indeed a concern, I'm afraid that it is totally off-topic for this thread, Charles.

For assistance that question, you can start your own new thread in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

Good luck!

I do not use OE so I really should stay out of it, but I have it in my notes that can get you started and then other people may also help:

I advise all to first understand what is happening and then decide how best to treat for your environment:

If you are talking about a message that says:

To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.

Automatic compaction of Outlook Express files was introduced in Service Pack 2.

If you are using Windows XP, there is a registry value called:

    Compact Check Count

It is located in the registry for a key that looks like this:

    \Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKCU\Identities\ {51909A0B-63EE-4EB3-A9A2-7CFA23C1ADCF}

Whenever you leave OE (not when you open it), the value of the counter increases by an increment (increment is not a verb so you can't increment something and a counter cannot be incremented).  When the value of the counter gets to 101, the next time you close OE asked you to compress messages.

There are two things that will increase the value of the counter.

Exit from Outlook Express will increase the value of the counter.

If you have Windows Desktop Search installed, it will increase the counter every time it works which is usually at least at each reboot.

If you use Outlook Express, and Windows Desktop Search, the counter will be increased more frequently — whenever you close Outlook Express and whenever Windows Desktop Search launches when you restart.

So if you have Desktop Search installed, which will increase the counter of an increment, each time that you start and if you open and close OE ten times a day, your meter will be at eleven after only a day.  Repeat this for 9 days and you will see this message.

Even if you are not using Outlook Express and only using Windows Desktop Search, which will still increase the meter, so when the meter reaches 100, Windows Desktop Search will prompt you to compress messages at the next reboot even if you use not OE.

This is because Windows Desktop Search is configured by default to search for the Outlook Express database if you are using OE or not.

No matter how the counter is increased, if you use at least one of these two, eventually you will see this message appear sooner or later.  But you can stop it when you understand.

Did you know that the "increase" is not a verb?  If you cannot 'increment' (or decrement) a counter.  You can increase or decrease an increment, however.

You can compress data when prompted (which resets the counter to 0).

You can change the registry and reset the counter to hand to buy some time until you see the message again.

If you do not use Outlook Express and only using Windows Desktop Search you can tell Windows Desktop Search to never watch the Outlook Express database (or uninstall the Windows Desktop Search if you do not use).

To remove the Option of Windows Desktop Search index to the database of Outlook Express follow these steps:

Click Start, settings, Control Panel, Indexing Options, change, clear the box Outlook Express, OK, OK, to save the settings and reboot the system so that the changes will be effective.

After the Outlook Express recommended for use (which would include the normal database maintenance) will prevent you from seeing the message in the first place.  If you see the message that you might want to reconsider how you use Outlook Express and the risks of data store corruption of occasional or misuse (risk behaviours).

Most people using Outlook Express or Windows Desktop Search agree just remove the indexing Option in Windows Desktop Search and keep the meter that is built into Outlook Express so that they will remind to compact the database from time to time.  If you had to sort of do not maintain your Outlook Express files, it would be risky for your messages.

Windows Desktop Search is a memory and CPU of pigs anyway, so you better system performance if you just uninstall it.

  • To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.

    Every few minutes the message:

"To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages.  This can take up to a few minutes. »

It is irrelevant for two reasons:

    (1) I do not use Outlook Express and have therefore no messages to be compacted.

    (2) I have not free disk space as I am currently using only five percent of the very large disks.

Is could someone please tell me how I get rid of this very irritating message.

Try to reset the compact County in the registry:

    1. Start the registry editor.
    2. Open this key:

      \Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\ {identity}

where the identity is a string of letters, numbers, and dashes.

    3. The value of Compact Check Count to 0.
    4. Close the registry editor.

For more information, see why you should let Outlook Express Compact Messages when it asks you .

WARNING: Incorrectly editing the registry can damage your system and prevent Windows to start. Before you do, back up your important data, make a restore point and make sure that you know how to repair a damaged system. Boulder computer Maven

  • Delete the message "for free space disk outlook express can compact messages."

I use a PC with Windows XP SP3. I use Outlook Express to access a mail server via POP3 / SMTP. Several times, I get a message saying "Disk outlook express can compact messages for free space": how to prevent the message from appearing?

I read the posts in this forum even on users not using only not OE. I use OE, but I want to choose if and when compacting messages...

Prompt compaction is triggered whenever you close OE 100 times.  So if you compact manually, you don't get invited again until you close OE for another 100 times.  Unfortunately there is no way to change this.  Dbx files shall be compacted.  If they are not, they will move on to an enormous size, and then get corrupted, so it is important to pack on a regular basis.

  • Outlook Express 6.0: message Constant (every 10-15 seconds) - Outlook Express can compact messages.

In the last 4-6 months, I get the message: "to free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes. OK / Cancel. "This happens when my computer starts (after welcome screen) up to and including when that I disconnect during the night. AND it happens every 10-15 seconds and up to a few hours. then it stops for several hours and then again every 10-15 seconds. To say that it is boring, frustrating and a pain in the * would be a major understatement.
I never click OK; always Cancel. I have NO idea why this is happening.

Around the same time that it started, so-called indexing (?) stood. He appears on the Desktop Board. I never asked for it, have no idea what it is, etc. Have no idea if the two are connected.                   Questions:1) how "Compact messages" go away forever? Where they come from? Why are the projection on my computer.        Note: I am the one and only user on this computer!
    (2) what is indexing? Why I need or want? Why it appear? He needs to go ASAP!

Finally, the technical stuff: OS - XP Pro SP3. Antivirus: Webroot 2011-2012. To update all patches from Microsoft. Browser: Firefox.
Nobody knows what is happening and how to make it go away.

Thank you very much!!!                                    P.S. in the time it took me write this (about 5-7 minutes), the "Compact messages) showed up to 10 times! You see why I'm ready to tear my hair out?

Assuming that you use either OE, and or, you leave compact once, indexing is perhaps the reason. Windows Search is installed?

You must tell Windows Search to stop indexing OE.

Windows Search. Set Desktop Search Options
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspx

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

You may leave compact once to reset the counter, but which should end with the prompt up to 100 closures of OE. If you do not OE, you let compact occasionally.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

Compacting your folders periodically is a must to keep OE works fine and at some point, you may lose all your saved messages if you do not. When you delete or move messages, the space they used remains until you compact.

Never touch anything until the compression is finished.* *.

    See:
    www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

With SP2, Automatic compaction in the background has been removed because of problems he has caused. Now, you will get a prompt to compact after 100 closures of OE, you need to do, and do not touch anything until it's finished. If you compact manually, at your convenience, this will also set the counter to zero. See this for more information:
    http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact

If you are fully patched, you will now see a copy of your dbx files copied to the Recycle Bin as BAK files. If something goes wrong when compacting, the messages can be easily restored from this backup. A compact manual resets also the counter in the back of the registry to zero now.

For more information, see the information framed in red here:
    www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

To keep things running smooth and harden faster:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. It will eventually become corrupt and you may lose mail. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

    And backup often.

  • Get the message "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages" - No. OE installed

From the beginning of this week, I get a pop-up message stating "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages".  This happens when that I start.  The fact is; I do not use Outlook Express or have installed. I checked the Windows components that are installed and checked that.  Once again; He started at the beginning of this week.  There are a few updates that was installed earlier this week also.  No other software has been added.  I use Outlook 2003 and have for years.  Will continue to cancel this message, I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on how to prevent this message from poping up upward.

Of course, it has something to with Windows Search as you suggest.
I open the Indexing Options and found that Outlook Express was listed and checked in an indexed location.
I took the case off Outlook Express but he left on my Outlook 2003.
    The settings saved and restarted.
The message poped always upward, but I noticed one thing - search index icon does not appear in the taskbar until I actually recognized the message by choosing .  I waited about a minute and a half before that I did to make sure my boot is complete.  Soon I clicked on cancel search index icon appeared on the system tray.

Yahoo!!  The popup is gone!  Had tried several other procedures, nothing helps.  This fix was relatively easy and successful.  Thanx loads, Runde

  • Outlook Express disables - continuous popup to is that outlook express can compact messages to save free space.

Keep, send a message popup that Outlook Express can free up space by compacting messages - if ok is not touched - guard poping top-fact that on every 10 minutes, tried all power off connected to OE but still happens. Do not use OE at all so it's very annoying

Nero Scout or Windows Search is installed on this machine?

In the case of Windows Search, (the offender #1), you must be told to stop indexing OE.

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

In the case of Nero Scout, see point 2.3 page 8 here.
    FTP://ftp6.Nero.com/user_guides/Nero8/Scout/NeroScout_Enu.PDF

In the option to exclude indexing of selected file types, remember to add these file types:

    .eml, .dbx & .nws

  • "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. It may take a few moments. »

I see this message every few minutes, it not matter if I click ok or x out.

I also have a magnifying glass for indexing in my sys. Status bar.

    Thank you, nancy

You must tell Windows Search to stop indexing OE.

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

  • To free up disk space, outlook express can compact messages. This may take a few minutes.

I started getting this message yesterday (2/28).  Likewise, I do not use Outlook Express (although I do use Microsoft Outlook - and get a lot of mail - 100 per day - keep up to 20)).  I opened Outlook Express and there is no visible message through the app.  I did not choose to run the process of "compact" of the window pop up.  Any thoughts?

You must tell Windows Search to stop indexing OE.

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.
You may leave compact once to reset the counter, but Don ' there worry not, it can't hurt a thing.
  • establishment of a new identity in outlook

If you want to tell Outlook Express, how you are trying to add the identity? Using an e-mail address and a new password that is authorized by Bellsouth? What differences do you see in tools | Accounts | Mail | The properties for each account? The only difference should be the PW and address.

cannot access my music on my Ipad or Iphone. Whenever I have select the music icon, there is a picture of a girl with his Iphone hide list of music, I can't getrid of this image. I don't want to not try or don't buy music if I touch the image, nothing happens no connection to the music store. The image is there, and that's all. How to get back to my music.

On one of the devices, try to reboot (to give a fresh start to iOS).  Data are not affected.

Restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch - Apple Support

Then, go to settings-> musicand make that Show Apple music is turned OFF.  Tap the music app.  If you see this image with the girl holding the iPhone, there should be choices on the screen to Join Apple music or display your own music (don't remember the exact wording).  Choose the latter.

no link to the music store

The store for buying music is a separate application called iTunes Store.

  • Installed the new drive hard and now I get a pop up that says that my windows is not genuine.

I upgraded my hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1750. Now, I get a pop up that says that my windows is not genuine. But under the control of configuration\systeme and Security\System, it says my windows is activated. It is an OEM with Windows7 system House. Did that clone a new (bigger, 1 TB) hard disk and then install. In addition, windows update does not work now either. Said the service is not running.

You have installed RemoveWAT at some point in the past.

Now we must try to clear up the mess :(

Best way to fix it now (since we do not know what version of RemoveWAT served) is to run WATFix...

Download WATFix - make sure you click the link in the page, not the big shiny buttons! - and use it.

Then post back with another MGADiag report, and we will see what we can do.
