Go to start > >(Classic View) Control Panel administrative tools > Services. Scroll down the list and make sure that Windows search is set to automatic. Open the service by double clicking on it, then choose automatic from the Startup Type. Once it is restarted, restart the machine for good measure. It may initially take a little while for Outlook to index if you have a lot of information in your e-mail software.
