Whenever I press SHIFT, ctrl or alt an icon indicating the name of this key is displayed on the screen.

Suddenly, every time I press on a modifier (shift, ctrl, or alt) key an icon indicating the name of this key appears on the screen. I do not change settings or do something out of the ordinary. I checked the Tablet and my keyboard settings (I use a wacom tablet and mouse instead of a regular desktop mouse) and everything is normal. I also assured that StickyKeys is turned off. It's incredibly annoying, please help.

Thank you

  • When I used to hit ctrl, ALT, delete, Task Manager appears. Now, just the screen CPU usage. How can I get that back for the bigger task manager, which, the CPU usage was a tab to the breast? Thank you.

The Task Manager is now just 'CPU' because I must have hit something wrong.  I was hoping just to click on the tab use the CPU in the Task Manager, now somehow when I hit CTRL, remove alt. it shows only the CPU usage graph.

    Double-click the window border.

  • Some ALT keyboard shortcuts do not work in the resolution of the screen Panel

    PROBLEM:

It seems that the resolution of the screen control panel dialog box some accessed via the ALT keyboard shortcuts do not seem to.

The Alt-combinations that do not seem to work are listed:

    Alt + s   (' Display: "menu drop-down)

    Alt + O   ("' Orientation:" menu drop-down ")

    ALT + M   ("" Several screens: "menu drop-down")

Is it possible to access them using some/different specified keyboard shortcuts or is it a case that they have not been implemented?

The following Reproduction method was tested using two and three monitors attached with a multi-display compatible video card (see further below for a test instance), although the problem can still occur with a single, or more than three monitors.

    MODE OF REPRODUCTION:

    (1) open the control panel.

    (2) select 'View' then 'Adjust the resolution' (or simply select "Adjust screen resolution" If a category view).

    (3) once the screen resolution dialog, hold down the ALT (left) (notice the different points on the page which reveal a letter underlined in their chain to suggest this is accessible by pressing the corresponding key on the keyboard).

"(4) with [ALT] key again press the [R] key on the keyboard and notice how this will display the corresponding resolution:" drop-down list (it's very well and as expected).

    (5) now release both keys and press the [ESC] key to clear the menu drop down.

    (6) and repeat steps 3-4 but this time using the key [O] instead of [R] (in theory, this should appear the "Orientation:" menu drop-down).

    (7) notice how nothing is happening, i.e. the "Orientation:" drop-down menu does not open upward.

    (8) repeat step 5.

    (9) now to repeat the following steps 6 through 8 for each of the keys: [D] ("' Display:" "), [M] (" "several screens:" ").

    (10) even after noticing how these keyboard shortcuts do not seem to work as suggested points out when you press [ALT].

Your system could be achieved a malware.

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Some malicious software is aware of the methods you're most likely to use to find and remove it (Task Manager, System Restore, command prompt, Internet, Google, etc.)

The malware does not allows you to use things like the Task Manager to find and remove, so it prevents them from becoming a process running on the system and the process will not start or the process will be completed as soon as it is launched.

The malware is happier when he let you think you need to use system restore, a repair install or reinstall your XP from scratch to fix your system when none of this is necessary.

You can fool the malware (and then fix it).

Assuming that your Windows is installed on your drive C, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder c:\windows\system32 and locate taskmgr.exe.

Copy the taskmgr.exe file and rename the copy something malicious software will not recognize.  I like to call the copy:

    c:\windows\system32\jose.exe

Double-click on jose.exe and see if the Windows Task Manager window opens now.

The problem is the malware won't let the taskmgr.exe a running process, but he does not know jose.exe as a running process in order to thwart you all (I have a feeling that he will well a day on jose.exe).

Will not 'fix' your task manager, but at least you will know whether or not the Task Manager mechanism works (taskmgr.exe still not start properly).  If you try to remove some malware and the need to use the Task Manager, you can simply launch jose.exe (double-click) instead, but will be still infected your system.

Usually, there are a few other things that also don't work you would like to know later, so I recommend you do this:

Reduce the risk of malware by running some scans.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, restart, test your task manager and we can repair any other pending issues.

If things look good, you can delete the c:\windows\system32\jose.exe file.

  • Pavilion 15 ab062nl: HP Pavilion ab062nl 15, SHIFT, CTRL, ALT keys on linux problems

I have a problem with the keyboard of the laptop HP Pavilion 15 ab062nl.
the problem is with the keys ALT SHIFT and CTRL on the keyboard.

for example when I use the shortcut ALT - TAB, after a few seconds, the ALT - TAB menu disappear as if I release the ALT key, but is not so.
Another example is when I surf the web, when I scroll with the mouse wheel, sometimes the beginning of the page to resize, as if I am pressing CTRL command while marching, or if I write a text, sometimes the borwser launch shortcut, as if I am pressing CTRL while I type text , for exaple so I type letter 'b', open bookmarks...

Another example is while I'm typing the text, if I press the SHIFT key and that you start to type, started writing letters and after awhile, written in lowercase as I released shift, but I'm always pressing shift.

for example, if I press SHIFT + s, the result is this:
    SSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
some letters are capitalized, but others are tiny.

I have not found a solution.
the only way to fix it temporarily, makes pressure for a few seconds the shift only, after that, the problem goes away indefinitely, or until the next reboot.

This problem occurs with all versions of ubuntu (x 86 and x86_64), now I use Ubuntu 15.10, but I also tried 15.04, ubuntu 10.04 ubuntu ubuntu ubuntu 12.04, 14.04.

In addition, I have this problem too with the other Distributions of GNU/Linux (I tried Fedora, OpenSuse, ArchLinux, Antergos, Debian, SteamOS).
but is not and the hardware problem, because on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 I don't have these problems.

I also tried to connect an externa USB keyboard, and if I use external USB keyboard I have no problems.

In my view, is a compatibility issue with this laptop's built-in keyboard.

I tried to follow these problems using XEV, and results which is also if I use a cell phone, sometimes XEV reads an ENTRY from one of these 3 keys (SHIFT, CTRL, ALT) and while I'm pressing one of these major 3, XEV see also if I release and immedialty after press.

This is an example of the input while I touch Left_ALT for awhile

On Web sites, I usually click while holding the CTRL key to open the page in a new tab recently, whenever I press the ctrl key, he spectacularly fast zooms. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and did not help.

This could be a problem with a malfunction (scroll wheel) the middle button.
You could try another or check the mouse driver in Control Panel.

Start the computer in safe mode Windows with network support (on the startup screen, press F8) as a test to see if that helps.

Try to set the pref mousewheel.withcontrol.action (Mac mousewheel.with_meta.action) 1 on the topic: page config to avoid zoom if you press the Ctrl/command key.

On a Toshiba Portege M700 with Windows XP, I get a BSOD with the following:

There is no further information on what happened, it just says: a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

I don't know any specs on the system (processor, memory, ect) I was given this laptop from edge of my guy on the ground.  I searched and I can't find any info on this Stop error message.  It was not a new hardware or software installed on the laptop recently, other than a possible update of Windows, I'm not sure.

Whenever the system is booted it shutsdown and the BSOD right before seeing the screen Ctrl Alt Del to log on.  I tried the Safe Mode, Mode safe mode with network and command prompt.  Each instance you get to the log in window, but when after entering my info and loggging stop immediately with the same BSOD.  I also tried the last good Config known with no luck.

Also, the hard drive is encrypted so I can just shoot and get a backup of it before you try to reinstall the operating system.  I have not tried to repair windows, yet, I'm waiting to try other solutions if they are there.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.  If you need any other information, just ask and I'll give you everything I can.

    Hello Jordan,.

I've had a dynadock for a few years now and it has worked very well. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the beta drivers. Again, in general everything works very well. However, I use several UNIX utilities derived in which CTRL-E is the key combination to go to end of line (based on emacs keybindings), and all of a sudden CTRL-E is originally the dynadock disconnect! Does anyone know if it is possible to disable this global keybinding? I literally decades of packaging to use CTRL-E for end of line, and it won't end any time soon, so it's a HUGE nuisance.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hmm. I think that certain something confused third-party applications
As much as I know there is no option to the key combination which disconnect the dynadock.

    When the dynadock is connected to your computer, the TOSHIBA dynadock utility can remove all devices with a single click;
You need to right-click on the icon in the system tray, then select eject Dock menu to launch the process of ejection.

    You can also run dynadock utility from command line;
    In run, type: C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\dynadockUtility\TOSUSBSvrCtrl.exe / eject

There may be a link between the keys CTRL + E and TOSUSBSvrCtrl.exe / eject
