Where in my house should find new AE 6?

I'm looking for advice in creating an Airport Extreme 6.

With should this configuration below, where I put the AE 6? What must happen to the AE-1?

I read that the wireless router should not be far from the cable modem, but it seems that the AE 6 would be better placed in the center of the House.

The cable modem and desktop are in a room next door. The Gen1 AE used to be there. A few years ago, when we started using several laptops and a mountain BIKE, I moved the AE-1 to the center of the House, on a high shelf, about 40 feet away. The ATV is in the other direction ~ 40'.

Ethernet connects the modem cable to the Gen1 AE and then goes back to the desktop.

I currently have:

  • iMac 27 "end 2012, MB Air A1465 (thanks @LaPastenague for where to find the model #), iPhone 6s, 5s, 4s, iPad, ATV 4
  • Airport extreme N Gen1
  • Motorola SB6141 Cable modem (just updated SB5100 last week)
  • Cox Cable 50 Mbps (usually w / in ~ 32 Mbit/s) (we dropped our cable TV week last, after testing a few weeks)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A wireless router doesn't have to be close to the cable modem, so what you read is misleading... and you have reason, placing the router wireless in the center of your home could be better; better still take place as close to the ceiling, so practical, would be even better.

Unless you really need, I suggest that let him you out of the configuration of your network for two reasons:

  1. Its Ethernet ports do support 100 Mbps; those on your AE 6 supports 1 Gbps. This would have more impact if you use the AE 1 in a mobile network with the AE 6 configuration. Note: This configuration would be preferable to a scope where the connection between the two is wireless, but, once again, due to the limited bandwidth of the Ethernet ports, you earn a lot.
  2. The AE-1 could be used to extend the mode of the radio of your AE 6 model 802.11ac.
  • Motorola SB6141 Cable modem (just updated SB5100 last week)

Unfortunately, the Motorola SB6141 is known to be incompatible with airport base stations. Are not bad either; they just don't "play well" together. We receive many messages here to the CSA and most describe the problem as intermittent Internet connectivity loss, when these two are paired.
