  • Where can I find the Documents and Settings folder or the folder on Vista?

    I need to find a Real Player file file so I can delete it, but am unable to find the floder Documents and Settings.  I need to delete a file called treestate.dat but am unable to find... Help, please!

    In Windows Vista user profiles

    In Windows XP, 2000, 2003, user profiles are stored in c:\Documents and Settings. In Windows Vista, the profiles are now stored in c:\Users. You will see a folder c:\Documents and Settings in Windows Explorer in Vista, but you will also notice the shortcut icon on the folder, and you will not be able to access this folder. c:\Documents and Settings is now a junction Point. You can use the random dir command to see where c:\Documents and Settings point to or use the table below.

    The following table lists the old profile path and the new path under Windows Vista.

    Old path

    New path

    \Documents and Settings

    \Users

    \Documents and Settings\Default User or
    %LogonServer%\NETLOGON\Default user

    \USERS\DEFAULT or
    %LogonServer%\NETLOGON\Default

    \Documents and Settings\\My Documents

    \Users\\Documents

    \Documents and Settings\\My Documents\My photos

    \Users\Public

    \Documents and Settings\All Users Menu

    \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start menu

    \Documents and Settings\All Users\Bureau

    \Users\Public\Desktop

    Records to take note of here are the folders in the path of all users. Many legacy applications that use outdated methods to solve the system folders, will solve the railways under C:\ProgramData when looking for common places. For example, the joint office can be resolved as C:\ProgramData\Desktop, however; This is actually a point of junction for C:\ProgramData\Users\Public\Desktop. A random entry in the C:\ProgramData folder dir reveals the following Junction Points:

  • Two questions. We wish to remove the Vista and download XP Pro and would not let me explore the "Document and Settings" in the C"" drive.

    Mr President

    Buy a laptop the year last Dell with VISTA. It won't let me partition (including shrinkage etc.). No matter where you go that it denied access, including loading the program. Search function I'm trying to understand for a year yet, I can't find.

    I want to explore the "Document and Settings", but access is denied.

    Finally, I gave up on VISTA now that I bought a XP Pro... Tried to format the drive it did not show me the hard drive.

    Direct booting from cd said that it found no hard drive to load. I am just desperate and sick of this VISTA. Please help to get rid of this OS.

    I'll be eternally grateful to you if you can help me. The newest...

    Above is the reason why you can not access it!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Come on first, site of the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if your model computer has XP drivers available for it...
    If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.
    If Yes, download and save to a CD or Flash drive.
    Save all your data because it will be lost during the installation of XP.
    Then follow the steps below to do a clean install.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
    Once installed, reload ALL your other programs of original media, or download again.
    Reload all drivers and utilities for your motherboard.
    Nice day. I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I need help to change the color and style of the points in Captivate 5.5. How do I do that?
    Thank you
    No, but you can insert a picture or a symbol in a separate legend (or rectangle / other object drawn) on the top of the text caption.
    Just out of curiosity, because it is a new version of the Forum and I have a strange behavior: you you yourself mark the original question and your second question as "useful answer? This seems very strange, the fact that you can mark your own question as a 'useful response', totally unexpected.
  • Why is the 'Documents and Settings' folder hidden and inaccessible?
    I used PC backup for backing up my XP files.  When I restore the files on my Windows 7 computer, I tried to bring it back to the "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test".  There is now a "Documents and Settings" folder hidden and inaccessible in my "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test".  How can I view/delete this folder?
    Short answer:  Because there isn't actually.  Please do not try to access it, you will help break your operating system if you try, and you will lose the ability to run several programs or worse.
    Why?  The tale:
    The Documents and Settings folder does not really exist in Windows 7.  This is only to fool the bad programs by redirecting to the right place (the Users folder).  Apparently he also deceived you.  It is not a real issue, do not try to access it.
    Or if you prefer, here's the long Version:
    First of all, the Documents and Settings folder came into existence in Windows 2000.  In order to shorten the path name (there is a limit to how many long letters we) as well as to create other languages of the operating system for use throughout the world, this folder has been renamed a few users in 2006 with the release of Windows Server and Windows Vista.
    Programs built the right way, that is not the real name or spelling (or language) of the book by fine user path, because they use the variable %UserProfile%.  However, many programs have been built the wrong way.  They are absolutely dependent on the existence of a folder called "Documents and Settings", spelled in English.  This program will crash if they do not find the file they want.  So to keep these plant program, Microsoft has created a record of false (called a junction Point) that redirects these programs on the folder of the user.  So if a program think he saved a file in c:\documents and settings\joe\desktop- the file will actually be saved to c:\users\joe\desktop.  The program never knows that he cheated.
    What you need to do:  Go to your Folder Options, tell him to Hide protected operating system files, and then use your computer normally.
    Select the reference image and choose window > secondary display > Magnifier (locked). Now the image you want to change, and start working. You can refer to the secondary display window while you work on the image you are editing,
    If you have a second monitor attached, the entire second monitor may be the secondary display.
  • How to get the color and stroke of ComboBox
    I would get the selected color and stroke selected ComboBoxes to print these values as strings in an .ini file to save the settings.
    Here is my example http://s24.postimg.org/q59kivgxh/Z055.png where I have a scene with ComboBoxes.List
    The list of colors is an ObservableList in the classroom
    public class ComboBoxColorCellFactory {
     public static  ObservableList<String> colorList = FXCollections.observableArrayList(
    "White", "WhiteSmoke", "GhostWhite", "Ivory", "MintCream", "Beige", "Transparent", "Seashell", "Snow", "Honeydew", "FloralWhite", "Cornsilk", "BlancheDalmond","Wheat", "AntiqueWhite", "NavajoWhite");
    and the list of race
    public class ComboBoxLineCellFactory {
       public static ObservableList<String> linesList = FXCollections.observableArrayList(
         "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 1;", "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 12 2 4 2;", "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 2 2;",
         "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 15 5.0 15 5.0;", "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 0.8 8.0;", "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 3 3;", "-fx-stroke-dash-array: 6 3;");
    In my previous version of swing, I used to get these values in this way (PriceRetracementIni is the class with the statements of private fields and define and use the get methods).
    PriceRetracementIni.setColor1(Integer.toString(((Color)jComboBoxColor1.getSelectedItem()).getRed())+ "|" + Integer.toString(((Color)jComboBoxColor1.getSelectedItem()).getGreen())+ "|" + Integer.toString(((Color)jComboBoxColor1.getSelectedItem()).getBlue()));
    PriceRetracementIni.setStyle1(ComboLineTypeConstants.getStrokeArray((BasicStroke)jComboBoxStyle1.getSelectedItem()));
    PriceRetracementIni.setFontStyle(jComboBoxFontStyle.getSelectedItem().toString());
