  • In Firefox 3, I could type history search for words in the URL bar and pressing on enter would take me directly the debates, without going through Google. How can I get 4 to do this?

    I could even find in the websites in this way, say by typing France wiki and need me the Wikipedia for the France page, even though I had never been there. (Or sometimes, if I did a search with the term wiki, it would take me to a wiki dedicated to this subject, even though I had never been to this site before.)

    I really do not understand how this feature works, but can I turn it on for firefox 4?

    The change between Firefox 3.6. * and Firefox 4 is how the location bar search. In Firefox 3.6, it uses Google search "search by name". With innovation by the name search, it performs a search on Google and if there is a clear match he will take you on the site, otherwise, it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it performs just a search on Google, if you type in something that is not recognized as a URL.

    To get the behavior of Firefox 3.6 on Firefox 4, you must change a hidden preference.

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
    2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    3. Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and change its value on the link below

  • How to display the URL bar and the bookmarks bar when I open addons page?

    It seems counterintuitive to me that the Firefox addons page doesn't have the same toolbars than the other tabs, and I've not found an option to add them back in (or an add-on to fix). Instead of being able to enter a URL directly from the addons page or click a bookmark, I leave the tab before I can go anywhere else. In addition, it looks like graphically its place when I go through tabs, and most toolbars disappear for a second that I move on the addons tab.

    Other utilities that use their own pages manage to preserve customization of the toolbar without remove it completely, so I wonder if there is a way for the addons page to do as well.

    The addon Download Manager Tweak is an example of another utility that has its own page without removing the toolbars. One of its options allows the user to open their download as a tab page, which also contains the normal customization of the toolbar, the browser tabs.

    Thanks in advance!

  • If I type an address in the URL bar and press ENTER, it does nothing, I drag and drop the address of a new tab to make it work.

    As above.
    The problem is that when type it or paste a link in the URL. If I click on a bookmark that's OK.

    This is caused by one of your extensions (probably toolbars Ask or Kaspersky). Try to disable Firefox > customize > Add-ons

  • JS CS4: Create the variable for the active layer, and then select the layer at the end of a script

    I'm come white with the verbiage and spin my wheels with OMV guide and script.

    var myOriginalLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.item (0);
    Alert (myOriginalLayer)

    Returns "layer object" and not the name of the layer.

    var myOriginalLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.lastItem () .name;

    Returns the name of the layer I want but not by choice.

    I am challenged on how to select the layer.

    Hi John,.

    The difference lies in that the [Object Layer] is the real object, and the 'name' is a property - like color.

    You can use one of these two approaches:

    var myOriginalLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.item (0);
    Alert (myOriginalLayer.Name);

    hosts the original layer object, and you can see the name if necessary :-)

    For re - select the layer, use

    app.activeDocument.activeLayer = myOriginalLayer;

    You can also select name goes like

    var myOriginalLayerNAME = app.activeDocument.layers.lastItem () .name;

    ...

    app.activeDocument.activeLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.item (myOriginalLayerNAME);

    I also noted the following:

    app.activeDocument.layers.item (0) points to the first layer of your document; not the 'active'. Similarly, app.activeDocument.layers.lastItem () points only to the very last. I don't know if the order of the activeDocument.layers array mimicks the order as shown in the tags palette, but I hope for it :-)

    To get/set the active layer, use app.activeDocument.activeLayer as shown above.

  • Cannot run javascript via the URL bar

    https://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/questions/871548
    I suffer from this, the solution to use a bookmark works however I want to know how and what changes prevent the use of the URL bar for such things.

    Sometimes the Firefox will respond to it being pasted into the URL bar and sometimes it won't. It doesn't seem to be any logic behind it where my question.

    Edit: and just for the love of him, not really important but how do make you links mailto always open in a new tab?

    JavaScript runs with different levels of access rights. When you type something in the got, it recover without access rights (main Null - from Firefox 6 see question 876916), you can do almost anything. A bookmarklet runs with page access rights, so it can make more like alert ('hello') etc. JavaScript that runs inside an add-on has full power and can do anything 'chrome privileges.

  • Refresh/Stop button is missing from the URL bar in 27 FF.

    My position only bar shows 'bookmark this page' and the history of drop down menu on the right. He used to have a button that switches between refresh and stop depends on whether a page was currently loading, which is gone.

    It happened after restarting FF to install an add-on. I don't know if updated FF to update at the same time; He could have. I am now on 27.0.1 and I had installed HideMyAss, which installed its own toolbar button, and also the refresh and stop buttons were no longer in my URL bar, but now they were separated from the buttons in the Navigation toolbar.

    I can't go back into the URL bar. I uninstalled the add-on, I tried drag-and - drop the buttons on the URL bar and I tried to 'Restore the default game' in the toolbar customization dialog. None of these work.

    Thanks Diego!

    The problem was these lines of Localstore.rdf:

       <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#nav-bar"
                       collapsed=""
                       iconsize="large"
                       mode="icons"
                       currentset="unified-back-forward-button,urlbar-container,reload-button,webrtc-status-button,stop-button,downloads-button,lpt_lastpass-compact-btn,window-controls,social-share-button,tp-notification-popup-icon,pilot-notification-popup" />

    compared to the localstore - safe.rdf, which was:

       <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#nav-bar"
                       currentset="unified-back-forward-button,urlbar-container,reload-button,stop-button,webrtc-status-button,bookmarks-menu-button,downloads-button,home-button,window-controls,social-share-button" />

    This is probably the entry:

       collapsed=""

    saying Firefox not to collapse the buttons into a single. I deleted all the lines with the exception of leave and everything was back to normal.

    Thanks again.

  • I am unable to Type or use the keyboard in Firefox 18.0 anywhere, including the search bar and URL bar. How should I fix this?

    I am unable to type anything or use the keyboard to type in Firefox. I use Firefox 18.0 installed on Windows 7.
    I am able to paste in the URL bar and the search bar, but absolutely not able to type in it.
    I already tried the 'reset' option but are still unable to type.
    Also tried Firefox in safe mode with disabled addons but are still unable to type.
    Install a new copy of firefox after Firefox uninstall and delete the old "Mozilla Firefox" in windows folder. but always impossible to type.
    Please tell me a solution to this.

    Have you tried restarting the computer?

    It is possible that you have activated the keyboard by chance to one who does not work in Firefox.

    Windows remembers the setting by application keyboard layout and you have probably changed the keyboard by accident via a keyboard shortcut.

    • Make sure you have the language bar visible on the Windows taskbar
    • You can do this via the context menu of the taskbar: toolbars > language bar
    • Check the language setting (keyboard) keyboard for the application that has focus via the icon in the language bar
    • You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remember the keyboard by application setting

    Control Panel > regional and Language Options > keyboards and languages > change keyboards > advanced key settings > change key sequence

  • Stop coming google results after attempts to use the URL bar!

    I just installed the latest firefox and am angry. I used to be able to grasp things in the URL bar and firefox would direct me to the relevant Web site, no questions asked. I could type, for example, 'BBC world news' in the URL bar, and after knocking entered, I would be on the site of BBC News world. Now, "bbc world news" by typing in the URL bar gives me some GOOGLE RESULTS! Why? I search Google. What I liked about Firefox, it's that he could send you to the websites you wanted to go and all you have to type keywords... I can't go to a page of search results for NO REASON. How to do this job properly, as formerly?

    'No useful response', note.

    When you went directly to a web site, which was also a Google search, there are three different searches Google listed in the article, and each is described, choose the one you want, I think that all three of them or something similar with labels of Firefox has been used by Firefox.

  • How to display the menu bar and address at the same level?

    Firefox 4 seems good, but a major problem is that the menu bar, the bar tabs and the Navigation has a bar a clean upper-left line in the window, with mainly two effects:

    1. Much space wasted on the top right
    2. The real web window being compressed very vertically, so if you have a laptop or widescreen for another reason, then it isn't really a lot of space on the left for navigation.

    The Compact Classic add-on does not solve this problem, but with the adverse bars becoming quite small and rather hard-to-reach buttons. A better solution would be to show the menu bar and the Navigation bar at the same level, but how?

    Default on Win7, Firefox 4.0 not same poster not the Menu bar - the orange Firefox button is displayed. Right-click on the Menu bar and click on the menu bar in this context menu to deselect. When you have the orange Firefox button projection and the menu bar is hidden, you can access the Menu bar by pressing the ALT key .

    Or, you can open the toolbar Customize mode and move items from Navigation bar in the Menu bar, and then hide the Navigation bar.

    https://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/KB/how+to+customize+the+toolbar

    http://KB.mozillazine.org/Toolbar_customization

    In addition, there are a number of compact menu extensions that deal with compaction of the Menu bar down to a button that replaces the menu bar and provides a drop-down list of these menu items. Or extensions that allow you to Customize the Firefox button menu and add menu items that aren't there, but who are in the menu bar. Using most of these types of extensions involves using customize to move the items according to your tastes.
