  • Beeps satellite 1800-204 - I use the CL3 & CL2 all RAM modules

I tried to install a 256 MB Samsung M464S3323BN0-L1L in my laptop S1800-204. It did not work very well, I'm afraid :) The power light turns on but nothing happens.

The original memories were a Toshiba THLY64N11A80 (64 MB) and a Samsung M464S0924BT1-L1H (64 MB). Using one of the old as well as 256 MB modules makes the computer a long beep and one short beep at startup.

I wonder if the reason is that memory, I got is CL3, while the 'old' are CL2? Maybe the computer only support CL2 memory.

If I could get a PC100 CL2 memory, it would work or require an organization special line/column too?

    Hello

Toshiba recommend using these memory modules:
    PC100 256 MB (PA3069U - 1 M 25)
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)

    The PA3069U - 1 M 25 is a module of Kingston - 256 MB - SO DIMM 144 - polig - SDRAM - 3.3 V ECC memory.
In my opinion, you must use the memory modules with the same properties.
In addition it s advisable to use similar modules in both banks.

    Hi abarnabe,

If Windows XP starts correctly, the problem is related to your Linux distribution. What does s and there is no hardware malfunction.

As you know I hope, Toshiba doesn't supports Linux distributions. This means that you have to look for a solution yourself, and here the most users use Windows. So I think you should ask the Linux professionals.

  • ASP would repair a Satellite A model, which is more under warranty

Please could someone help me out here.

I registered my Toshiba laptop with the Toshiba site, when it was first purchased and I heard that there is a 2 year warranty with your product if it is registered with you site.
The problem is that I just discovered on the 2-year warranty and my laptop is now out of the warranty period.

The real problem is, my laptop broke about 13 months after purchase (the last time I used it would prove the time to break) and I just discovered on the 2 year warranty site that is now out of warranty I will continue to be able to get it fixed for free by Toshiba.

    Hello Sam

Is your question about laptop repair understood or you have any other questions?

To be honest, you guys really strange. You come here to connect with other people, read some reviews and what you do in the end bring you Garrett so low because of his opinion. It's really not fair. Be happy that someone wishes to discuss your problems and try to offer some comments on this. Must all of us have the same opinion as you?

So, if your question is: ASP would repair a Satellite A model, which is more under warranty?
The answer is: YES. But you know that you will have to pay for it.

  • Satellite 1800-400: cannot run/install applications after installing XP

I bought a Satellite 1800-400 for my daughter for her school work, formatted, installed XP pro, and when I tried to install the software for a wireless card (3Com) for internet access, he said only: "the application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

So I tried another card (Belkin) software it says "D:\ is not a valid Win32 application". So I tried to install the printer software and he says: 'the entry point of procedure not found in KERNEL32.dll dynamic link library.

So I thought I'd try XP Home, exactly the same, Win 98 and WinME function without problem.
I have also flashed the Bios, but it made no difference.

    Someone at - it ideas

Hmm, it s very strange. For me, it seems that some applications are not compatible with Windows XP. I m not 100% sure why it happens, but I put t think that it s a RAM problem because the other Windows Me and 98 to work properly.
    But nothing is impossible

What version of BIOS is installed on your laptop? On the Toshiba page pilot 2.20 BIOS was released.
If your laptop uses an older version, you can try to update.

  • Satellite 1800 - 752S - the screen turns off

    Hello world.
    I have a satellite 1800 - 752S.
Since an ew months ithas a weird problem: the screen turns off. If I press and release the button the lid on what it is, but after that turns off again quickly. OT goes off sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes, or even hours. Sometimes it provides be when I run out of battery and bothers me on AC, sometimes against. It works fine, after I turn sleep or hibernation several times, and after a reboot, it bothers me. I've updated his BIOS for the lates on this site, which would not help. I guess it's a hardware problem, because it's the same problem under Linux, and I tried to install different versions of drivers and windows (not only the one of the recovery CD). Anyone have the same problem before. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you very much
    Roman

    Hello

I think you're right, it's a hardware problem. But to be sure, try connecting an external monitor. If it works without problem while laptops, screen turns off, then it must be a hardware failure.

I guess it's a problem with the FL inverter. You have to give your machine a service partner Toshiba for repair.

    Good bye

  • Satellite 1800-814-replacement ODD and HDD

    Hi all.

I have a Toshiba satellite 1800-814, which has a dvd - rom SD-C2502 reader. This disc runs out of CD playback more every day. The question is: can I replace it for a clone dvd or dvd/rw cheap or should I stay with toshiba parts?

And a second question. This laptop comes with a disc HITACHI DK23CA-20. What would be the largest size of HARD drive, that I couldn't go?

    Can anyone confirm this?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello

If you can get it on eBay the same drive, it will work with your laptop. Alternative check the user manual. You will find a list of compatible spare disks and don t forget that not all drives are compatible with all laptops. But the drives listed in the user manual are compatible.

AFAIK for notebooks with IDE interface there is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use hard drives 120 GB.
But in the worst case, you can use a 40/60 GB model.

  • Linux live CD on Satellite M70 and Driver Modem

Hi I want to use Linux Live CD (or USB boot Linux) on 70 M satellite. I tried puppy linux, but it did not recognize my modem and the USB key (I use the dial upwards). I want to know if someone has used linux live CD on this PC and he was able to use the dial-up modem. To this end, if I need a driver (linmodem), which one and where I should get. And what live CD distro I should choose.

Preference, I like any distribution that can be started from a USB because I n, t want to use my HD at all and boot USB will give me the opportunity to saev my job back in the USB. I only use the Internet (dial-up modem) and word documents (OpenOffice or other), or maybe (not required) I like to watch movies (CD or DVD).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Try again with the Knoppix Live CD. I didn't try yet but I will do in the future. Get info on http://www.knoppix.org/

By the way: If you want to use other BONES because of security or do some experiments, you can also try installing the virtual machine. A few days ago, I installed VMware Workstation. There, you can preinstall a few different operating systems and do what you want (Internet and so on).

  • Satellite 1800-314-replacement of the CD-ROM disc

We have an old Toshiba Satellite 1800-314 the CD-ROM drive appears to be failing - it often will not recognize a CD, or run the applications of one.

First of all, the CD-ROM drive is not removable, so the laptop must be open. I'm familiar enough with opening, laptops, but in a hardware store or repair is not currently available, I thought I would ask if there is something to know, such as coins out of condition precedent, when I open the case?

I would also like to take this opportunity to replace the old CD with a DVD - ROM drive. But I read that there is a problem with a possible conflict of IDE bus:
[REPLACE CD-ROM DRIVE WITH DVD OF TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1800-314 | http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-28372_20_0.html] (Their caps, not mine ;))

Apart from "shorting pin 45 and 47" on the connector, there are other suggestions?

The laptop belongs to my little girl, who will give me + hell + if it is out of use for too long, or worse, break... X (so I would like to correct it at once.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

The fact is that each optical disc drive cannot be used on every laptop. you are right and there is nothing other than the compatibility issue. The assignment of pins is the same for all readers and ratings and because of this, you must use compatible discs only.

The good thing is that Toshiba has listed 6-disc compatible optical disc that can be used with this old Satellite notebook.
All of them are listed in the paper manuals user s. check it out.

    Thanks for help

    Hi Darek

    Thanks for being here ;)
It would be very interesting to know the full name of your unit, because of many satellite 1800 - xxx with different hardware configurations.
But nevertheless without knowing your detailed unit, I would say that it of not possible to upgrade the processor on your laptop. The processors used in laptops are connected to the motherboard using a process called TCP (tape carrier package). It is a method of permanent connection and is used in the interest of miniaturization and heat dissipation.
