No problem, at least it's a step forward that it is not only the media player.

At this point if the CD-ROM drive does not at all, it could be a couple of things.

    1. First of all, just make sure under the folders under the view tab Options, that the "hide empty drives" is not selected. It could make your CD-ROM writer hidden just because there is no data in there at the moment.
    2. The drive appears not could also be that it is disconnected, but it's not terribly likely.
    3. Check Device Manager to see if the CD drive is listed, and if she has any warnings associated with it. You can open the Device Manager by performing a search in the search box of the start menu.  Locate the CD drive in the list, and then double-click it to view the status. He can say everything is fine, or can provide details on all issues.  Also, while you're here, you can check an updated driver. But this brings me to the next point...
    4. If the driver he is already up to date, it is interesting to watch your your model computer manufacturer Web site see if they have a newer version. Sometimes Device Manager detects outdated drivers and uses, when the manufacturer's website has something more recent.

    Hello

Step 1: Please make all underneath the same if you've done it before as it's often the total of the process which
solves the problem. Start at the top and use it as a checklist to the drive works and not jump around like a menu.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    If necessary:

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry entries
that the troubleshooter does not, and those who "could" be the cause.

  • Media Player 11 error: "connect burner and restart the player ' when trying to burn a CD

Original title: Media player 11 on dell e510 in XP.

When I try to burn a cd with media player, have a message 'connect burner and restart player' and burn is dimmed.  I have a sony crx310ee internal d ' training.  Media Player will play cd but does not recognize the burner.  Was able to burn with Roxio but uninstalled trying to get media player to work.  Have you tried to update the driver, but I'm told that nobody no more recent is (over 3 years).  Removed upper and lower filters.  Have not unhooked by car and restarted.  Do you have a regedit and changed the 3 to 2 Volume guid value.    This adds the record to the properties of the drive button.  Have run convenience store and it reports the device is not a burner, which is incorrect.

    Help!

Yes!  Think my problem is resolved.  Had ignored a suggestion to uninstall the burner and reboot.  This seems to have solved the problem since I just burn a CD using media player.

  • "Connect a burner and restart the player.

Message in Windows Media Player 11 with Windows XP SP3 on the laptop Toshiba A9.

I have burned CDs and DVDs with this drive (some months ago). It's my optical drive only.

Windows recognizes the drive writable [D drive properties shows the 'Registration' tab and 8 x write speed (CDR, CDRW)].

[I had to modify the player registry data for the 'Recording' tab to show (changed drive value from 3 to 2), as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316529]

Before and after editing the registry, said Microsoft Fix - It tool the "selected drive is not able to write ' (tool = Mats_Run.dvd.exe). A curious inconsistency with the previous paragraph?

    I'm stuck now. Need help!

    3. In the value data box, type 1, if the drive is a CD - R drive or 2 if it is a CD - RW drive.
