• Age of Empires II does not work with Vista or Windows 7

  I could not get Age of Empires II working on my laptop - first with Vista and now Windows 7.

  It installs OK and when you go to launch the small graphics launch box comes up, then the screen becomes phsychedelic before returning to normal and nothing more.

  It is a Compaq Presario with a chipset Mobile Intel R45.

  Any advice?

  If you weren't able to get the game to run in that same laptop with Vista or Windows 7, it seems that there is a conflict of material with this game.  I see that this game was for older systems and only supports graphics 800 x 600.  You can turn your the desktop resolution to 800 x 600 with 256 colors, and then run the game.  If this does not help then you may install DirectX 9 and see if that helps.   Yes, I finally solved the problem.   You can try to disable OpenGL drawing in Photoshop at the moment.
