  all of a sudden this morning, when I press the SHIFT key, a window opens which, when I expand it, it's firefox web ide. What white is, and why it rises. I am a simple user, not a developer and have no interest or need for developer tools. I can't make it disappear or turn it off. I finally get off I could enter my email by selecting my email address in a drop of water down - can't hit this symbol without the shift key--and put in my password limits by turning off caps lock key. But what makes firefox worse than useless.

  I guess this is related to the update firefox automatically downloaded yesterday or that it is some sort of virus, well I'm very careful about virus protection.

  I have used firefox for years and, so far, that is fine, but it's hopeless and, if I can't solve this report without delay, will be totally useless firefox for what it is.

I never typed the F8 key (I almost never use the function keys, I am a developer/leader of old digital equipment and from time to time, for old times sake, open a DOS window and rename files using RENAME it order... i. e, a dinosaur) so there is no reason why it should have been stuck. The problem seems to occur when / whenever I used the key.

  But, for other reasons, I restarted my computer and the problem disappeared.

  As I see no reason why a reboot would have affected the behavior of Firefox, I don't see why this has helped. But I don't have a horse in the mouth, all happy with the result.

  Should it happen again, I will review and implement response info.

  All PDF files now open in Firefox? If Yes, then it seems that you have changed your default programs in Windows.

  If you have a PDF file that is saved on your computer at your fingertips:

  1. Right click on properties and PDF
  2. Under the general tab, next to "Open with" is probably Firefox, click on the button 'change '.
  3. Select Adobe Reader, and then press 'OK '.

  Alternatively, if you do not have a PDF file on your computer:

  1. Go to start > Control Panel > default of programs
  2. Click on associate a type of file or Protocol with a program
  3. Scroll down to find the file type ".pdf".
  4. Click on the ' Change program... "button. »
  5. Select Adobe Reader, followed by 'OK '.

  What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you ALREADY had on this
  machine, including those you have uninstalled (they leave leftovers behind which can cause strange problems).

  If no joy there's something blocking perhaps.

  Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - IE with no Addons - what works best?

  IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - tab click on restore, and then click Reset - apply / OK

  IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security tab - click on reset all default areas - apply / OK

  Close and restart IE or IE with no addons

  At least, you can use Ctrl Shift N. I have to create files using a command window, and then distribute the empty folders around my directory tree. I then copy and rename these files to those that I need. Not a disaster, but a big pain. I tried all the suggestions here to fix it. Hard to believe there isn't some simple registry fix. The ability got turned off somehow. There must be a way to turn it back on!

  MS has replaced Hotmail with the 'new improved' Outlook.  I agree it is new, don't know about the other part of that.  :-)  They have certainly not reservations about sending millions of people through a learning curve.
