  Interesting question.  An example is the users who want to know their songs most played of the week/month/year.  Given that iTunes does not follow the pieces by time interval, the only way to do such a thing (in iTunes) is to reset the play at the beginning of the interval.

  You can do this in fact better with last.fm, but some prefer to do everything in iTunes and then reset plays is essential.

  Yes, I noticed it instantly.  Which is really annoying because I have all my smart list managed by game counties and sometimes to reset a track to keep it in a longer playlist.  There seems to be this old work around Doug I'll try, but I can't believe that Apple has removed this option.

  I have just updated several old albums (but preferred) with a higher throughput, better quality versions. But in doing so, the lower bitrate versions now have been removed and so I lost all references the number of times individual tracks had been played.   I tried modifying the XML Library file but when I open iTunes it does not recognize manual editing and when I close iTunes it overwrites any manual changes that I made to the XML file.

  Nothing has been deleted. Perhaps if you explain better what it is you are looking for, a person might be able to help. You mean maybe predictive text? All these settings are in settings > general > keyboard.

  I run a mac mini as a music server, this unit has all the physical files and plays music most of the time.

  Next to it is my air that I use for work, and there is another mac at home. These two are connected to iTunes game / iCloud. If I ever play music with one of them, I listen to icloud. Works very well. But: the game number is synchronized between the 2 'streamers', but not to the main unit (the mini with the physical files), and every song I play on the mini won't get counted. New files added to its library through and appear on all macs connected, however.

  I lost the other information by following the instructions found online of other attempts. I have unfortunately seem to have lost all that concerns my old library with the exception of the foregoing. I have been using an external hard drive to make this attempt. When iTunes opens it is empty, and when you try to import the .xml I only get playlists, although there is nothing inside of them. It would not be the end of the world for me to start all over again, I've not lost music files, but loading in my all of my old info is much, much, much more desirable. Thank you!

  Just install itunes.

  Copy the contents of your old folder in the itunes directory and start itunes--> it will do the rest.

  I recently had to format my hard drive and reinstall iTunes 12.3.2.35 on my Win7 PC. As part of the re - install iTunes, I clicked on the button scan for music.  This has created duplicates several of my songs.  I deleted then the duplicate songs from iTunes, but when I went to play a few songs a pop-up said "the song would not be because the original could not be found.  You want to locate? "When I tried to locate the song it is not found, but when I pulled the songs out of the trash they could be found.

  iTunes can create duplicates if the same content is added several times from outside the media folder when it is about to make copies of everything that is added to the library, or is added from an external drive that hosts the press kit that was disconnected during the launch of iTunes.

  In the Mail application, use the menu to go to the window > previous winners and clean you want to delete from there.
