Why bookmarks open in a side window?

When I click one of my favorites, it opens in a wide window of three inches on the left side of the screen instead of in a normal web page. The only way to avoid this is to type the url in the top of the screen, which pretty much defeats the purpose of having bookmarks. Any suggestions?

BTW, I am still WHAT XP and which may be a contributing factor.

Opening in the sidebar is the default value for the bookmarks created via a link or a button on a Web site.
You can view the properties of a bookmark using the context menu in the side bar (Ctrl + B; Command + B on Mac).
In the Bookmark Manager (Bookmarks > show all bookmarks) you can click on the button more in the lower details pane on the right.
Make sure "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

  • I tried to open a bookmark and its opening in an active window, such as an image, not a separate tab or window. What is going on?

I had problems with Firefox hanging (seems related to Flash on a particular Web site). During his last hours of troubleshooting, including on the phone with the assistance of my ISP, it was recommended I "Refresh" of Firefox. I've done it before, and I did it yesterday again. This morning I opened Firefox to my homepage (my ISP Portal), checked my email, disconnected from the email, this tab closed, open two other forums and Photobucket - three tabs open in the window - to post pictures and contribute to the discussions in the forums. Once completed, I've disconnected from forums and Photobucket, each firm separately tab, and then quit Firefox. (While in Photobucket, Flash has crashed several times... but this is not unusual with Photobucket in my experience. It's a different problem, I always deal with... but he immediately forgets...) As part of "Refresh" yesterday, I set Firefox to clear the cache and cookies and other files to quit.

Later in the day today, I opened Firefox, portal of my ISP opened as usual and expected (my "Home page"). Sometimes, instead of close the window/tab, I just open a bookmark and it will open in the same window, but by replacing the previous window and its contents. I.e. the procedure normal functioning for me. You know, rather than having two windows open where I have to close one, I have just the bookmark opens instead of the original content of the window.

Today (and it happened before today, but rarely), open the bookmark page as if it was a picture in the active window... otherwise said, my ISP Portal occupies about 3/4 of the window, but more on the left side of the window (not another tab or a window, but in the same window) is a thin view bookmark page. This new web page - quite foreign to the original page - has a scroll down bar, but can be made to fill the window... the previously opened web page acts as a barrier to the pleasure of the 'new' image/web page. While I can understand the right border of the "new framework" and drag it to the right, he still cannot push the 'old' web page of origin of the road... the old page reached a minimum limit and I get a split screen of two completely different websites mode contained in exactly the same active window.

The 'new' frame has an 'x' at the top right, so I could close... but my question is, why it is opened in web page/window...how from a completely different company can two web pages from completely different organizations/companies/websites are the same active window in Firefox? I have... attached screenshots. And, oh yes, not to mention that the HOW and WHY, how can you prevent (or is the best thing to just right click and open in a new tab or window...?) Which is not always convince me... I am someone who needs to know WHY something happened that should not have happened. It drives me crazy when something strange happens and the 'solution' is to change MY behavior. (You know, like if YOU were the problem, but I need to change MY behavior Instead of correct what's wrong with YOU... When YOU could make all of the obsolete situation.)

Thanks for everything you can suss out...

You can check this bookmark in bookmarks (library) Manager and expand the details pane by clicking the button more.

  • another window opens on the side every time I open Firefox

I downloaded the free version of Firefox and transferred my favorites of internet explore. And I added eBay as one of the bookmarks. Now every time I open Firefox eBay opens on the side as another tab and my Google home page. EBay and Google are visible on the same page, but ebay is just left in a small window. It's annoying close the tab every time I want to open Firefox

Right-click on the bookmark and select Properties, then turn off the preference for the load this bookmark in the sidebar, and then click Save.

Buttons using JavaScript on web pages for "Bookmark this Page" causes this preference to select saving the bookmark in this way. Therefore, do not use these buttons, use the function 'Bookmark this Page' which is integrated with Firefox instead.

  • Sometimes by selecting an existing tab will lead to open in a new window. Why?

Firefox browser runs and have a Yahoo homepage and another tab in this window with Yahoo mail. Sometimes have other tabs open in the same window as well. Sometimes, when you move (switching) from one tab to the other tab that I pass will open in a new window itself, rather than stay in the original window. Why does this happen? Please look at the problem.

Make sure that you do not drag a tab slightly downwards in the browser window by clicking.
The current versions of Firefox have a feature called tabs.
You can detach a tab in the current window and open in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
You can also do this via the context menu of a tab: switch to the new window
You can drag the tab to the tab bar in the original window to cancel this detachment.

for example. I put the search bar to open in a new tab, why can I not open in a new window? Why don't I have an option to use windows only? 1 tablet is 1 window. Why fascism? Why why why?

Thanks in advance for the help. Please take my rage like being lulzworthy...

There is a named tab killer extension that allows you to do this. The official source has not been updated for a while, so I posted a updated version. The background is in this thread: How can I completely disable tabs?

I don't like back in time in this way, but if you do, then here is the link:
http://jeffersonscher.com/RES/github_tabkiller-2.0.2009110201-versbump.xpi (Download, then drag a window to install)

Please note: when you load this extension and restart Firefox, inactive tabs in windows before restarting disappear. So be sure that you are not left waiting for work.

After installation, go here for new default tab to new window (otherwise it will prompt you each time):

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

Click on the button Tab Killer Options (see image).

  • How can I open a new firefox window when the window open is only the bookmarks library?

    Open a new firefox window.
    Open Bookmarks window
Close the firefox window that you opened in the beginning and open the Bookmarks window.
Try again to open a new window of firefox Windows; You can't just; You must close firefox Bookmarks window FIRST, and THEN reopen.

If the bookmarks library window is open and then displays Firefox still works.

Open a bookmark, history item or this library folder opens a new Firefox window.

Why cannot open iTunes with windows 10

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. (Yes, I see that you've done that but maybe not the specific deletions which are mentioned).

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

FF 4 Beta 11 I open a new window, middle, click on a link in the new window, but the new tab opens to the original window.

Something has already changed the default Firefox behavior. In the same window, not the 'original' or another window should open a new tab.

  • After saving the emails from windows live mail, why not open them on my computer as the file extension is wlmail.fol?

After saving the emails from windows live mail, why not open them on my computer as the file extension is wlmail.fol?

wlmail.fol is a tiny text giving the name of the folder. The exported messages will have filenames like 00D13E83 - 000025DF.eml. If you don't see all of the files like this, your export probably did not work properly.

For a successful export, follow these directions:

    1. Set Windows Live Mail to work offline before starting.
    2. Create a temporary folder on your desktop * to contain the exported messages.
    3. In the Export Wizard, select the temporary folder, and then select all the folders.* *
    4. When it is complete, check that the number of files in each folder to the temporary folder is one more than the number of messages in the corresponding folder of WLMail.
    5. Copy the temporary file to its final destination.
If you use a reader not NTFS to do this, you will see a warning that certain file properties will not be copied files. This can be ignored.

    * Windows Live Mail do not work with files that are not on a local drive, as opposed to an external or network drive. This is avoided by using the office as a temporary folder location.
    * If you want to export the files sampled only, select each of them containing messages. Subfolders are not automatically selected by default.

You have virus/worm on your system or you accidentally change the folder options

For the 2nd case Panel Contorl GoTo-> Folder Options (or tools-> Folder Options Menu) and in general files category, select tab "open each folder in the same window.

For the 1st case, you need to clean your system by installing an antivirus on your system or get it cleaned by attaching it to any other system running the anitivirus software.
