Why can't I capture video with windows movie maker?

When I try to capture video using the option "capture from video device" a window appears and says 'the file C:\Documents and Settings\extra\My Documents\My Videos\untitled_0004.wmv is not indexed and cannot be imported.' every time. How can I stop this so I can capture videos?

It seems that the file is saved on your
hard drive in your videos folder. What happens if you open
Movie Maker and go to... File / import into Collections...
and find and select this video clip?

If you still receive the "not indexed" dialog box the. WMV
file is possibly corrupted.

In Movie Maker, it may help to go to... Tools / Options /.
Compatibility tab and disable all filters. If it's
no help... try on the left by clicking on the button restore all default settings.

Sometimes one. WMV file can be repaired by opening
in a conversion program and convert to WMV...
Seem redundant, I know, but it will create a new version
of the file, this might work.

  • Why can't I import songs into Windows Movie Maker?

Whenever I have import an mp3 file into Windows Movie Maker, I find myself with an astronomically long mp3. When I open the properties of the mp3 out of the program (on the desktop or in iTunes), I get that mp3 is normal size (approximately 3-5 minutes long) but when I open porperties in WMM, it turns out be more close to 3000 hours.

I'm in a bit of a dead end.  I have to make and edit a film which is mostly clips stored in Windows Movie Maker on my old computer which has VISTA Home Premium/64 bit.

In most old clips (that are compatible), I have to shoot some new images.  My recent purchase of a Sony camcorder does not work.
