  • "c:\program files" opens at startup.

Hi all, thank you in advance for your help.
I am running win xp home edition.  When I boot the dir 'c:\program files' opens automatically.  Note that I do not mean c:\program files\common files.  the dir, who opens is "c:\program files" with three word in the dir documents.  so my question is sorta twofold. Why what is happening and how to stop it from happening?  Thanks again, Chris

It works like a charm for this problem.
I want to offer thanks to a hacked Silbylaw guys for this fix.

"And well, here's the deal. You have this stupid coming folder when you start?

    C:\Program Files\Fichiers

The reason is that the registry is reading through the entries and as the previous poster said, there is no quotes around C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec\... etc.

whats going to happen, is that windows will read the value until it can load this thing his tent to load (in this case, you want to load ccapp.exe or something else).

BUT here's the big thing, it will read until it CAN open something (if your value is not in brackets).

In this case, it is open C:\Program Files\Common because he got to that part of the value and said ' OK, well, I can open this folder! It is this value that finished playing! »

Now, the thing is, this folder C:\Program Files\Common does not usually exist and honestly has NO purpose! It is empty. Delete it! This is what caused the problems.

I did a test with this, I got a computer that works very well with Norton and everything, then I simply created a folder named C:\Program Files and did a reset.

All of a sudden wasn't Norton, and the folder popped up at startup.

Delete the folder, reset, things worked fine.

Add quotes to the registry values is a fix, but it is only temporary. What happens when you install several programs and they have values not in square brackets, in C:\Program Files\Common Files\... etc? The same problem will occur.

This is not unusual as far as I can guess. If you have created a folder named C:\Program then you'd have the same problem, but this time a fodler called C:\Program would open at startup, and all of your registration keys starting with C:\Program Files\... etc startup fails.

So in conclusion, the problem is not norton or your firewall, or everything you think it can be. Your unlisted registry values are normal, they will work on a computer without the strange folder.
The problem lies in the way the bed registry values of unlisted registry and this being combined with a folder that has no purpose and screw everything up. (C:\Program Files)
I have accumulated my brain for about an hour with this problem, and after doing some research and experiments, it is my last conclusive answer.

CAUSE: Setup created Sloppy 'C:\Program Files' for no reason

SOLUTION: Delete the folder "C:\Program Files". Leave your registry database as it is! »

  • Folder my documents opens at startup and log on

Folder my documents is opens at startup and log on how to stop why it behaves?

See if it works (I'm not your configuration): Command Options Panel\Folder.
Select the VIEW tab, uncheck the RESTORE PREVIOUS FOLDER WINDOWS at the CONNECTION.

Here's another option to remove this problem: http://www.technize.com/my-documents-folder-opens-at-windows-startup/.  Make sure that you are in the registry and I would only delete the Documents folder reference rather than all - but it is up to you.  I would like to make a registry backup system and the restore point before starting this procedure to be on the safe side.

    ==================================================================================================================================

Here is another similar option worth a try, if others do not work (same for system restore point and registry backup):

    Click Start > run Regedit > move > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In RHS Panel, change the value of "Userinit" to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

    Now, go to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ advanced Explorer\

In RHS Panel, change the value of "PersistBrowsers" to 0

    Reset.

    Click Start > run Regedit > move > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In RHS Panel, change the value of "Userinit" to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

    Now, go to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ advanced Explorer\

In RHS Panel, change the value of "PersistBrowsers" to 0

    Reset.

    Click Start > run Regedit > move > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In RHS Panel, change the value of "Userinit" to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

    Now, go to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ advanced Explorer\

In RHS Panel, change the value of "PersistBrowsers" to 0

    Reset.

    Click Start > run Regedit > move > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

If this does not work, go tohttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and run Autoruns and click all.  You are looking for something, with the documents folder, and when you find it, uncheck the box to prevent it from starting at startup (it probably isn't there because it uses a different process to open it, but it's worth a try since different processes was the one before this one and if you are here it means that you did not).  Check the entire list as there may be several entries.  When you're done, click OK and restart.  The file should no longer start.  If by chance you find explorer.exe listed there, then try disabling that and see what happens.  This can cause a lot of problems, so be ready to CTRL-ALT-DEL and file run Explorer.exe to restart the program and then go back and check the box - it sure is not the solution.

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

In RHS Panel, change the value of "Userinit" to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

    Now, go to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ logiciels\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ advanced Explorer\

In RHS Panel, change the value of "PersistBrowsers" to 0

    Reset

  • How can I stop Windows Live Messenger open at startup?

Windows Live Messenger opens whenever I start my laptop, and it does not to her PIN on the bar of.
Short of uninstalling this program (if that is even possible), how can I stop to open at startup and it detach all the time in the taskbar?  Thanks for your help.

    Hello

I can help you to stop Live Messenger from running at startup but don't know why it won't let you it detach from the task bar. It should leave you with the right button and choose "unpin this program from the taskbar".
On the login screen when messenger starts first, click Help on the right with the (?) and in the menu on the button, put a check mark next to "show the menu bar.
OK - now you can access the menus at the top of the window. Go to tools-> Options.
In the window that appears, click "sign in" on the list on the left and uncheck the box to the top right ("automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on Windows ')
Next time you reboot, Live Messenger doesn't have to load at startup.
It may be useful to uninstall and download again to see if there is a updated version that works better.
    Hope this will help
  • Why cannot open itunes with windows 10

Why cannot open iTunes with windows 10

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. (Yes, I see that you've done that but maybe not the specific deletions which are mentioned).

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

    Hello

First of all it will be interesting to know from when it happened. If this started after anti-virus software, there is answer to your question.

It's very strange. In any case please check in the Autostart folder if there is a shortcut in the Control Panel window. If so you can remove it and he is unbootable at commissioning.

How can I find out what programs are open at startup? I suspect that there may be some spyware as I often get the message that windows needs expand what that, and I don't remember getting that so often before going online to Garmin to update my GPS. • Cannot open "Change startup programs" in the control panel

Cannot open 'Change startup programs' in Control Panel. When I try to run "Start change programs", I get an error message that says: "cannot find 'C:\Program'. Make sure you typed the right name and try again. "Is there anyway that I can replace this file without having to reinstall the operating system?

    Hello

The message means there is a bad path value (probably is something that must be enclosed in quotation marks). The problem is finding * that * one is bad. Try this way:

Click Start, and type Windows Defender, and then the . Click on tools, and then click Software Explorer. It opens for you? (this is the same list that you get from the control panel). If this is not the case, how it fails?
