Why disk utility displays different amount of space used?

Hey everybody,

I have a Macbook Air with 120 GB of space and OS X El Capitan 2014. Utility disk say I used 27,96 GB but the bar graph divided above say I used about 44 GB of space. Why is this?

As you can see utility disk State 27.96 but above all, I have used that in the bar graph divided it say I have used over 40 GB of apps. How is that possible? I certainly don't have 40 GB worth of apps!

Please, do not rely on this information in Spotlight display. It will be accurate if you have recently indexed the reader: Spotlight - how to re - index folders or volumes - Apple Support. Always count on what disk utility screens or read the information.

  • Display different data in datagrid using a cellrenderer class cells?

    Gidday guys

I fill a DataGrid using SQLite. Some SQL columns contain 1 or 0 as Boolean values, and I want to display this as a bullet point in my datagrid.

Currently I have a conditional that checks a 1, and if there is, shows the point. I tell myself that there must be a better way, but I'm not sure how to do this with cellrenderers. I get how to add components using cellrenderers, but is there a way to replace the display of cells with another character (without actually modifying the dataprovider data)?

    Bravo to take a look.

It would be best to draw a simple shape and not with a single character in a TextField. To do this, Yes, you will need to replace the CellRenderer. I often choose this one, but use generally focus on the GPU of the components such as the FeathersUI components.

If you have too much data or are on a device and want to do this because you get mediocre performance, it's a good use of your time. Also if you just learn to do it just to do so, it is can also be a good use, if you finish your work on time. However if it is for the office and/or data are fairly minimal (a few dozen ranks up to a hundred or so, with a nominal amount of columns), it probably isn't worth your time.

All cellrenderers components tend to be the same (because more large components use smaller components and architecture aligns). The difference is ensuring that your rendering engine supports data, it is provided. If you only need a TextField or a bullet, it's fairly easy. Most of the components (such as lists) support icons and you will need to make sure that you provide the full implementation of all the scenarios of data in your cellrenderer class.

Pay attention to the technical dequeue cells on certain components. If all cells have usually only text, the cells are not destroyed and re-created as the list scrolls. The data is returned to the cell and the cell has a chance to simply update itself rather than to recreate from scratch. This offers an increase in performance of not having big does not destroy and recreate unnecessarily. It can also really confuse people when the cells begin to appear blank when you scroll (because the methods of construction of cells are not executed).

  • Display disk utility are in a conflict of space available

I have notice that only 15% of my 1 TB drive is available. Disk utility displays 474 GB available, but the bar of 163. When I read the information on Mac HD, it is said 469,89 GB available. What is going on? What can I do to resolve the conflict?

  • Hard drive space used/free info displayed is incorrect

My hard disk space used and the space free information apparently enormously out of proportion to the actual use. Can't understand why.

    Details:

My disk C (683 GB) indicated (including the Information and records management system) as having 140 GB of used space.

I find that about 42 GB, including hidden files, system files, swap file and hiberfil.sys.

My computer came with the SATA 750Go unique fully formatted and whose 683 GB C drive and a recovery disk 15 GB D.

I want to reduce C & create a new partition for documents before installing some new important software on C.

I am reluctant to shrink, or install new software, until I have find the mystery of this 100 GB of files to inventory.

I ran disk cleanup and Defragmenter. No change in the amount of space used / free display.

When I click the icon of the C in disk management and choose shrink, he says I can reduce C only to about 500 GB. I understand that shrink should be done several times to get full party, so presumably he would get smaller. I the have not used yet, but because of the concern/mystification about the reasons for this apparently incorrect space used for the drive.

I have Vista Home Premium (64-bit). I don't have a shadow copy volume.

I have not installed or changed anything significant since buying the computer, nor what I made a backup to C or D or large file transfer done.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Virginia2332,

You mentioned that the total size of the hard drive is 750 GB and also mentioned that the size is 683 after formatting and 15 GB recovery partition that add up to 698 GB. So where's the advantage remaining 52 GB.

You have another partition outside C and D.

However, I suggest you perform a check disk on your computer that will rectify the bad sectors, if any. Bad sectors will also be counted as used space.

CHKDSK (Chkdsk.exe) is a tool for command line that checks volumes of disk for problems and attempts to fix everything what it finds.

    1. click on Start.

    2. type cmd in the search box start and press to enter.

    3. type the following command at the command prompt: chkdsk driveletter: / f/r (chkdsk c:/f/r)

    4. check the size of the hard drive.

    Kind regards

  • Today my Macbook Pro could not start.  He showed me the ban or no symbol.  I was able to access disk utility and run first aid on the SM0256G of SSD Apple media successfully.  Cannot start in normal/safe mode.  Should I delete/install so I can?

MacBook Pro 13 '' end 2015.  256 GB SSD drive. El Capitan last version 10.11.4. I turned on the Macbook Pro and it could not start.  The progress bar with the Apple Logo would be present but would end not showing the symbol «»  I tried to boot mode safe - no go.  I have not reset PRAM help.  I was able to access disk utility and run successfully the first aid. No help. I was unable to restore two separate backup.  The utility show me backups however when I would go to the next screen and no backup is available.  Disk utility displays the SSD.  Can I erase the disc and download OS X install?  Thank you.

At this point, there is no need to delete. A new copy of Mac OS X can be installed directly over the old copy. This process replaces the components of Mac OS X on a file by file basis and adds missing ones, there will be no major throwing away what anyone, unless there is a power failure.

You have already run disk first aid.

Now use mode of recovery (command + R to start) to "Re-install Mac OS X. It should install the latest revision of the main version that you ran last.

  • Calculate the space used in the database!

    Hi all

I can calculate the space used by using one of the following ways:

    1. determine the size allocated by issuing

    SELECT SUM(d.bytes/1024/1024/1024)
    FROM dba_data_files;

2 calculate the free space by issuing

    SELECT SUM(bytes/1024/1024/1024)
    from dba_free_space;

Space used will be the value of the first statement - value of the second statement. This is manually!

Is it possible to combine these two queries?

    Thank you!

    Dan.

    You can certainly combine queries

    SELECT (allocated.bytes - free.bytes )/1024/1024/1024 used_gb
FROM (select sum(bytes) bytes from dba_data_files) allocated,
(select sum(bytes) bytes from dba_free_space) free

Normally, you could group tablespace as well.

But if you want just the amount of space used, it is probably easier to just

    SELECT sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 used_gb
      FROM dba_segments

  • Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Why Windows 7 displays an incorrect amount of free disk space / used on my DVD - RW drive?

Windows 7 can show the incorrect amount of free and used space in serious DVD - RW or DVD + RW media properties.  After burning data on the disk, Windows 7 could show that there are 0 bytes of used space and free space available on the disk capacity.  In reality, the amount of used and free space on the disk is reversed.

  • How can I display the partitions hidden in the new disk utility?

Yosemite (10.10) and previous versions of disk utility, I was able to activate the debug mode display the partitions hidden recovery via a Terminal command.  However, in El Capitan (10.11) the terminal command does nothing.  So, how display/display the partitions hidden in El Capitan?

    in Terminal type

    diskutil list

This command is always the same in ElCapitan.

  • disk space disk utility

I'm really getting fed up with the OS x team. They killed another great utility in El Capitan "disk utility". Now it won't let me create disk or partition of any player images. It gives me the following error:

"(null)" doesn't have enough available space to create the 'Home' disc image file Choose a different volume at least 125,49 GB of available disk space to continue.

I intended to create the image of the score by one user profile (the user was not logged) on 2.7 TB of free space on the drive connected locally. I also tried a different destination drive (SSD) with about 300 GB of free space with the same result.

Anyone seen this before? All solutions?

They are really kill this great OS. If they continue to do so, I will give up this ecosystem in the same way I did with Microsoft 10 years.

Some time ago, they said they're going with OSX UI to iOS. If that's true, then I better start watching another OS until they completely freeze my workflow.

    Great job Apple!

Just because you don't know what you do does not mean that there is a problem with disk utility.

Hands on with disk in El Capitan utility

(El Capitan) utility disk - partitioning a physical disk

  • Cannot use disk utility to create the partition of the free space on the external USB drive.

I have a red 3 TB Western Digital drive in a USB hard drive docking station.

The reader is GPT, and I have two volumes on it (a single volume is "Microsoft reserved", another volume is NTFS).

The other part of my drive is 1.5 TB of free space. I want to create a new partition with free space so that I can put backups Time Machine encrypted external hard disk.

I checked free space on the drive with my Windows machine:

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---

    Disk 0 Online 167 GB 20 GB

    Disk 1 Online 465 GB 0 B *

    Disk 2 Online 2794 GB 1526 GB *

    DISKPART> select disk 2

Disk 2 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list part

    Partition ### Type Size Offset

    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------

    Partition 1 Reserved 128 MB 17 KB

    Partition 2 Primary 1267 GB 129 MB

    DISKPART>

DiskPart displays 2 partitions - a 128 MB and the other GB 1267 with 1526 MB of free space.

I took the hard drive of my MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 and pulled towards the high disk utility, but for some reason, that it does not resemble the disk utility it is to see the free space, so I can't create a new volume.

    Here are a few screenshots:

... of the physical disk in disk utility (notice how it doesn't seem be all unallocated space on the disk to create a new volume):

... of the NTFS volume in disk utility:

... of information for the drive in disk utility:

I'm a new Mac user. My company recently gave me a Mac, so the first thing I want to do is to create a new partition on this external USB drive to put backups Time Machine figures on it.

In the research I did find a way to do it on a mac computer without erasing the drive and starting over. But you can go to your windows computer and partition the free space of disks. Then use the mac to set the free space as mac os extended journaled. Here's what I found. http://www.PCWorld.com/article/2066191/how-to-partition-a-hard-drive.html the only other way would be to copy the file on the external drive, somewhere, so you can delete it and re partition for windows and mac. Then reinstall windows files. I'm not familiar with windows systems.
