Why do I keep losing my Internet connection when I still have a good WIRELESS card on my Windows 7 laptop?

I always lose my Internet connection but yet my network signal strength is good. This happens on my Windows 7 operating system, but not my Windows Vista operating system. I'm afraid that this could have something to do with the firewall settings? He was repeatedly interruption of connection with the Internet and the two operating systems. Unplug the unit and reset the router solved the problem with Windows Vista, but only momentarily for Windows 7. I ran the diagnosis and resolution of problems. This utility can detect never any problem. Sometimes the diagnostics displays a problem with a connection to the Ethernet cord (but the laptop with Vista OS was fine). I have reset the wireless adapter, which claims to be working very well, over and over again. I have reset the settings of the Windows Firewall to its default settings. Don't know what else to do. Help, please! I fear that the problem exposed my laptop to a potential security threat.

  • I use a public network location setting I got with a security access code
  • Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter is the adapter connection
  • NETGEAR's router
  • WPA2-PSK is my type of security
  • Radio type 802.11n
  • Windows Firewall on
  • Microsoft Security Essentials on real-time
  • Microsoft Virtual Mini Port Adapter (WHICH I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE JUST NOW) displayed in network connections, but is not connected!

Try this,

Assuming that the signal is strong, and that there is no noise in the electrical environment (http://www.ezlan.net/wbars.html ).

Uncheck the box to the NIC of energy economy (I.e., do not leave the card save energy).

There may be some variations on where is the energy saving setting.

Here are a few examples, YMMV, look around your systems.

Check the support site for the manufacturer of the computer and make sure that you use the latest drivers.

Download the drivers and extract them to a folder of your choice.

In Device Manager, right-click on the adapter.

Click Update drivers and choose her browse my computer for drivers.

    Hello

    1. have you tried to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
    2. when the question is is produced?
    3. you remember to make changes to your machine before the problem?
    4. what operating system is installed on your computer?

Follow the steps mentioned below and check to see if they help.

    Step 1:

If you are using Windows 7, I would have you run the network troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    Step 2:

I recommend updating the firmware of your router as well as update the drivers of your wireless network adapter.

The majority of connection inside Windows 7 problems have been resolved by installing the latest driver for the wireless card with obtained from the manufacturer. Download and install the Windows 7 compatible drivers and check whether the problem is resolved.

See the following article from Microsoft for more information on the update of drivers:

    Update drivers: recommended links
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/update-drivers-recommended-links

    Step 3:

If this does not help, you can uninstall and reinstall the Device Manager wireless network card to be a safer side.

To uninstall the wireless device manager,

    a. Click Start, type device manager in the search box of start and press ENTER.
    b. Locate the network adapters and expand the same.
    c. Select the wireless connection, right click and choose uninstall.
    d. restart the computer, if prompted.

Pilots should settle automatically after the computer restarts.

Now you can install the latest wireless drivers and check if this solves the problem.

    Hello

Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

This problem may occur because of driver or network connection settings.

Try the following and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if that helps.

How can I troubleshoot network card?

    Method 2:

This problem can occur if authentication enable IEEE 802. 1 X for this network checkbox is enabled. If this box is checked, but there is no server to authenticate the connection is interrupted. If you turn on the wireless network connection, it disconnects again after a short period.

To disable authentication IEEE 802. 1 X, follow these steps:

    a. Click Start, type ncpa.cpl, and then press ENTER.

    b. right click on your wireless network connection, then click Properties.

    c. click the wireless networks tab.

    d. under preferred networks, click your wireless network, and then click Properties.

    e. click on the Authentication tab, click to clear the authentication enable IEEE 802. 1 X for this network check box and then click OK twice.

    Method 3:

I suggest that you do the following and check if it helps.

    a. click "Start", enter "NCPA. CPL"(without the quotes) and press ENTER.

    b. right-click on the connection you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".

    c. Click to select 'Protocol Internet Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and then click 'properties '.

    d. in the Internet Protocol window, we will change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222

    e. click 'OK' twice to complete the change.

Hope that the information provided is useful.

  • iMac loses the internet connection when I turn off wifi

Any help appreciated! I'm not very computer savy! Can my grandson tell me (how) on some things.

I lose the internet connection when wifi is disabled. It will happen when using any browser, Firefox-Safari-Google Chrome.

Desktop computer is connected to the modem.

    Model name: iMac

    Processor name: Intel Core i7

    Processor speed: 3.4 GHz

    Number of processors: 1

    Total number of Cores: 4

(By heart) L2 Cache: 256 KB

    L3 Cache: 8 MB

    Memory: 4 GB

    Any ideas? Thank you

You can use an ethernet cable between the modem (= the internet connector) and the iMac.

WiFi is like an invisible computer thread worms (among others) the modem. When you switch WiFi off, your computer cannot reach the modem and so there is no internet on your computer.

You must set up a wireless internet connection in the network as well as the connection sharing normal LAN wireless and connect to it as well as the local connection.  If you don't do this, you will not have an internet connection.  You need both.  You must also enable some features in the main area sharing network to access the internet - they are quite well defined.
