Why FF accesses the Internet almost continuously?

How can I stop FF accessing the network once a page has been downloaded? I tried to turn on/off
network.dns.disablePrefetch Boolean false to true, and
Network.prefetch - next boolean true to false
using about: config, but it did not help. I'm afraid that there might be some malicious software running, even though I have a fully updated system of Windows 7 Professional x 64 with Microsoft Security Essentials. I also ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, that has not found any problems.
I based my comment on my network activity indicator icon in the taskbar.

Thanks Philipp, this is extremely useful information. I changed the setting of the activity for the only network traffic indicator, and the symptom has decreased dramatically. It completely relieved my initial concern. Problem solved.

  • How can I allow one of my children to use local applications, while temporarily blocking his access to the Internet and while allowing children to continue to access the Internet?

I have three children who have separate user accounts on our two computers. Both computers running Windows 7 Home Premium edition. We use Windows Live Family Safety on each computer to our parental controls for defining when and what each child can access. We used the period of parental control feature to block every child signed to computers, except when we allow. (It would be nice if we could block a computer and allow them to use the other.)

However, I can't find a way to allow a child to not use the computer for local activities (for example, Microsoft Word), while blocking its access to the Internet. I also want to allow his brothers to continue to use the Internet during this time.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

Windows parental control have no option to directly block access to the internet in a Windows user account, because the system needs to provide activity reports. To work around the problem, you can block all internet browsers available for this user account so that the child have no way to access the internet. Restriction of the app to access the control that installed programs on the computer children.  Here are the detailed steps to block some apps:

    1. on any computer, log on to the parent account for http://fss.live.com

    2. click Edit settings under the name of the child you want to change the settings and then click the App restrictions.

    3. check the circle next to turn on the restrictions of the app.

    4. check all programs related to access to the internet or type the application in the area of Search apps .

    5. check the box next to the application or the program once it appears in the list.

    6. click on Save.

This settings apply only to that specific user account. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

  • Why can't I access the internet without using safe mode

Help cannot access internet without using safe mode

    Hi Dharrington25,

-Remember to make changes to your computer after that this problem started to happen?

As you are able to access the Internet using the safe, put your computer in a clean boot state in order to identify the program causing this problem.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See KB Microsoft article below for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

  • Qosmio X 505-Q892 - some programs cannot access the Internet

    As the title says I have a Qosmio X 505 - Q892.

The confusion is I can log on Mozilla Firefox/IE and even play MMO RPG very well as well as newspapers in Ventrilo and Skype but when I go to use any other program such as Windows Live Messenger, or to download and install of new programs/updates such as the NET. Framework v4.0 or even an older version of Windows Live Messenger or attempt to use hyperlinks in an installed version of Microsoft Excel 2010, I get an error message saying that I am not connected to the Internet when I'm clearly.

Are passed by CMD and type in ipconfig/release expected 60 seconds and type ipconfig / renew and tried installation/connection to top programs and receive the same error message. Everything else works fine, otherwise I wouldn't be able to type on this issue. Now, I honestly don't know where to start to look for any information or if it just a coincidence that 3 or 4 different programs keep telling me I'm not connected to the internet when I am clearly, then by the process of elimination or whatever it is you want to call it, I decided it would be my best bet on a place to find some kind of help on this.

In the case where there is no other curiosities that I know he has no impact on what will be and won't be not and technical troubleshooting changes, so I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit SP1, the connection that I use is strong enough to bear 5 laptops, an Xbox 360 and PS3 at the same time, but also don't ever have connection problems unless there is a storm.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as this is apparently beyond what I can fix on my own.

    Hi Dvx,

To be honest it's a very strange problem, and especially on this virtual path (forum) it's not easy to say what to do in this case. I put t understand why you can access the Internet with programs such as Firefox and other programs not

Only thing I could imagine, is that your firewall is blocking certain programs. This would explain why some programs work and other programs not. So please check your firewall / security software configuration so all programs have access to Internet.

Otherwise, it would be interesting to know whether or not you use the preinstalled operating system from Toshiba and since when did you notice the problem.

I noticed my extra long taking computer to start from a few days ago.  I can't access the internet until the second message appears after the error message.  This message says "spooler subsystem app stopped working and was closed".  I have Norton 360 protection and my OS is Vista Basic.  I did a scan antivirus with no problems detected.  The only time that this message is when I start my computer.  Help!

    Hi DawnKemm

    Method 1:

You can check if the problem occurs in safe mode. In safe mode; you have access to only the drivers and base files.
Check out the link to start the computer in safe mode and then check-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Method 2:

If you are not faced with the question in safe mode, then you can check in a clean boot state. To perform the clean boot follow step 1 mentioned in the article below, and then try again check in the clean boot state -

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the problem is resolved check which service non-Microsoft is the source of the problem; referring to article and following the other steps.
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    b. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option and then click OK.

    c. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps.

  • Connection Internet says 'Local' only and I can't access the internet at my convenience.

I'm not a computer genius, but I know that's not my wireless which is mess up and not allow me to access internet from my laptop.  If I try to access my home, or somewhere else that provides wireless internet, I always have trouble getting.  IF it connects, it shows 'Local' only and not allow me to access the internet.  It seems to do this when I am on the internet while someone else in my household is on it as well.  Which shouldn't be a problem at all.  I should be able to access the internet if someone else uses it or not.  Never had this problem until I got this new laptop with vista.  It lasts for almost a year now and I'm taking classes online and cannot deal with this problem any longer.  Please someone help me solve this ongoing problem that seems to be quite common!

  • Cannot access the internet, even though I am connected

New laptop running windows 7 - says it is currently connected to a wireless network that I know works well, as I am also connected on this computer.

But when I actually try to access the internet, I can't. I continue to turn the resolution of problems, and it cannot identify the problem.

It is connected via this wireless connection of last week.

Also, I already noticed that when I loaded the suite Office on this matter, I got on the phone to sign up, even if I had clicked the box - sign up online, and the connection Wi - Fi said I had a connection, and I was still online on facebook at the time.

Please help, I can't think what you're looking at the next, and now I can't even in facebook, google or anything using this laptop, even if it's supposed to be connected.

    Help

Thanks for your help, but in the end, I downloaded a Norton Removal Tool on another computer, before making the above post.

Then I loaded on the new laptop, he ran and rebooted. And when the computer is restarted laptop, I got instant access to the internet, so it seems that Norton (which was only on the laptop as a test program and not used) was what was preventing access.

Have now put Kaspersky on the laptop and fingers crossed, all right.

Thank you much for the help

  • Windows 7 Home premium network problem, computers can access the internet, but they do not see each other on the network

I was trying to set up a homegroup on my main computer, but on the second computer, I never had the opportunity to join the homegroup. I'm sure that I have everything set up properly, but I can't get the second computer to join.

I have a switch that my internet runs and a cat cable goes to each computer. Each computer can access the internet without any problem, but none appear in other network list. They have the same name of working group, I just can't understand it. I use Windows Firewall.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

For the best newspaper of the results of each computer screen system and together all computers on a network of the same name, while each computer has its own unique name.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.
