Why have to force eject the external drive to LR?

I have the ambient light on an external drive. After I close the program, I often have to force eject the drive to disconnect from my computer. Here's the alert I receive. Any ideas?  Thank you very much.

  • Window Vista Ultimate 2007 backup files empty on the external drive.

The computer is a desktop HP running Windows Vista Ultimate 2007, 32 Bit OS, RAM 400 GB and Intel Quad CPU 2 .4GHz.

I ran Windows Vista backup for a full backup and a backup of the file.  When I look at the external disk to verify the backup files are empty.  There are two created on the external hard drive, but both files are empty.  The program indicates that the backup routine successfully on the external drive. I have not received any error message.

I use a Toshiba external drive with 500 + GB.  I have a lot of room.  I tried twice.  The first time I reformatted the external drive using Windows and revived the full backup only.  Once again the image file on the external drive shows 0 bytes, 0 files.

I wonder why the backup files are not getting moved on the external drive.

    Hi BEM Consult,.

    1. are you allowing Windows to choose recommended backup or you choose "Let me pick" option on the backup configuration window?

We recommend that you connect the external hard drive on another computer and check if the size of the backup file is in the list.

Check if you have selected all the items in the backup settings to create a backup file. Try to create a new backup file by selecting all items on the Backup Wizard and check the result.

  • Windows Vista backup on the external drive stopped working

I have a LaCie 750 GB hard drive external (total size 698 GB) who I've been saving my drive C and D to a Dell XPS 410 using Vista Home Premium software.  He contended until the end with a backup automated on-demand for once a week.  He performed the backup 30 times since 11/09/09, but sometimes did so sometimes (shorter range) other than the weekly on-demand.  When I compare the total size with the free space on the external drive and my drives C and D, the amount of used space is respectively 131 GB, 5,11 GB and GB 665,5.  I am not very computer savvy, but if the backup program backs up only what of new each time, why used on my external drive space is so superior to what is still on my C and D drive?  I assumed that the backup software would just copy the previous backup, each time that a new backup or write on the oldest backup, but apparently is not.  So now all I get are messages saying that the backup was not successful because a file was in use or something to that effect.  I'm doing something wrong or do I have to reformat the hard drive external when it is "full" to start the backup of my computer again?

    Hello

Your assumption is correct. Cross check if a new backup is created and saved in the external hard drive. If a new backup is not too write the old backup, the use of the space will be very high.

Two particularly useful automatic backup features are the ability to do a scheduled backup and the ability to save your files.
We recommend that you cross check if backup settings are intact. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. click on change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You get the error message, unplug the external drive and restart the computer. Connect the hard drive and check if you get the error message.

    I hope this helps.

  • Files copy automatically to the external drive to the basket.

    Hello

    Q.1

Whenever I'm copy/move files from my computer to a disc external hard or vice versa, I often had the message prompt "are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?  The XYZ file has properties that cannot be copied to the new location.  YES/SKIP/CANCEL.

Please advice why I got this message and what it means.

    Q.2

Very that often, when I left and I deleted my external thumbdrive or a portable hard drive to my computer, I noticed that the trash on my desk was filled with a lot of files/folders that I have recognized that they were things of mine, but I did not understand how they appeared in the trash at the time when I did not remove my external hard drives before I left my computer.

Then, when I plugged my external hard drives to check if these files/folders had been accidentally deleted quickly, I found that they were still there.

This kind of incident occurred in Windows XP-based computers and Windows 7.

Please indicate why/how this could happen.

BTW, I couldn't find a correct classification for my two above questions in your Inbox "subject and Windows applications.  Therefore, I selected no matter how one.

    Thank you

  • Starts the Powerbook g3 pismo of the external drive?

    Hello, all,.

I want to start my Powerbook G3 (Pismo) running OS 9.2.2 since the restore in one disc external hard drive. (PB knows he has a drive hard internal , but the drive does not read discs in there.) The computer goes up the disc - its own restore disk - when it comes starts with Macintosh HD as a player start, but when I try to use the restore disc as commissioning, starts to drive to go up, but the door opens. Even if I hold the door closed, the computer starts low to halfway and glued in place: first, the question mark flashing, then commissioning with Macintosh HD but then freeze it.

This happens even if I chose as the startup disk restore disk in the startup configuration panel. This means that I can't even begin to use disk utility to clean the hard drive of the computer. I did that with two other computers (reset several times), but those who had internal functioning disks. Is it possible that I can do this computer using the external drive as the boot? I read that the G3 Pismo that allows. I know I can get someone to take out the hard disk and smash, but I expect much prefer to destroy it myself. And I can understand how to remove the hard drive, but it seems to imply a boatload of maneuvers and some tools that I have, at the present time. I would not completely destroy the computer. It would be good for recyclers to be able to retrieve some parts, though they might be useful to someone.

It is possible that I can't boot from the restore disc in the external drive, but maybe there's something that I have not yet tried. It seems crazy that the external hard drive with the restore disc appears on the desktop with a normal restart, and I can choose as boot drive but can't seem to complete commissioning. If anyone has any ideas on this subject, I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you.

    Jenny

Are you trying to boot the PowerBook to an external optical drive that is connected to a USB port or your external drive connectivity FireWire?  If it is USB, that is the problem.  The reading of an optical drive connected by USB is one thing, but start since it is a different matter.  Unfortunately, your Pismo is not capable of this.

  • Use existing footage of the external drive instead save the library?

I can't find any info on the internet for this using FCPX.   There is a sequence library file that records your videos (makes copies) in the library of FCPX.   You have to do if you already have your video on an external drive?  Otherwise, I am just double everything I have and fill up my external drive even faster with 4 K images.  FCPX should the images of the library that are duplicated or can work with existing external images already on my drive (copied from my GH4).

Images can be stored either inside the whole library, or it can be stored in a place designated outside the library. Media imported from a camera, a camera card or camera archive must be copied to the location of library media, either inside the library or to the designated place. Media who are not in a camera folder structure can be left in its original location and linked to the PCF, using symbolic links.

So "GH4 copied" is not really accurate enough. If you copy the media in its folder structure, media have again copy in the location of library of the PCF. If you check out the media out of the folder structure on your hard drive you can use it in FCP with symbolic links, even if you run the danger that the media are not treated properly or it separates symbolic links through mismanagement.

  • import of the external drive iTunes Podcasts

I have a large number of podcasts on an external drive, I want to put them in iTunes on my new iMac.

I have them copied from the external hard drive in the folder PODCAST iTunes on the iMac = iTunes Media - Podcasts - iTunes - music.

When I open iTunes and go to the PODCAST - MY PODCASTS I don't see any of the files that I copied in the Podcast folder listed above.

Is there a way for my old podcast existing if displayed in iTunes - Podcasts instead of having to re - download everything again?

    I have iTunes 12.3.3.17

    Thank you

I have them copied from the external hard drive in the folder PODCAST iTunes on the iMac = iTunes Media - Podcasts - iTunes - music.

You should never directly with iTunes structure of folders or files, you'll probably mess up the database. In addition, as you discovered when you add or remove files directly, iTunes becomes not informed of these changes.

Add files from podcast through the iTunes interface. By dragging on the sidebar of top-level lists works well. You can also use a menu to import them.

iTunes > file > add to library.

  • New itunes install. All the songs are on an external hard drive. A lot of songs do not show up in itunes, but they are in the folder on the external drive.

This seems to be a common problem:

Recently I had to reinstall Win 10 & then itunes. All the songs are on an external HD iTunes does not show a large number of songs that are in the folder on the external drive. Any ideas how to be able to see the songs in the itunes on the hard drive folder in the itunes library?

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

See make a library of portable split. Have you copied the correct .itl file, or should you connect an external hard disk .itl file? If you can find the correct .itl, it should have all your songs and playlists. See the empty/corrupted after upgrade/crash iTunes library when the library has been altered for the first time with the new system. If you have to start creating your new library in an iTunes folder to the root of the external drive and move all the media inside... \iTunes\iTunes Media before adding to the library.

  • How can I initialize with a previous osx of the external drive?

About 4 years ago I installed Snow Leopard on an external drive while I was running Snow Leopard on the main drive. I wanted to load a lot of video on this player to be able to use the version of Snow Leopard of iMovie when I updated the main drive. However, when I upgraded to the Mavericks (recently in Yosemite), he would list is no longer the disc of Snow Leopard when I pressed down option. And when I went to preferences/Startup and chose to start with Snow Leopard, it would not be completed the boot process.

If I use disk utility and create a partition to use for initializing with Snow Leopard, space-how much should I assign this partition? The external drive is 1 t and it is full of 50%.

Also, I have a 500 GB internal drive I removed a Mac deceased and put in an envelope. There are also Snow Leopard. After the partition is created, can I exchange the two external drives to be used on the same partition? What I want to do with the box HD's boot up with it, then install Mountain Lion.

I want to give to anyone who helps me the credit, but I have 3 questions under one heading. Is there a way to get triple credit?

I'm starting to get lost with all these drives, partitions and 4 versions OSX.

I wonder what happened to your old Snow Leopard.  You always use the same computer that you used with Snow Leopard? A Mac can start only in the operating system with which it is originally came or newer.  Your profile information from computer to the bottom of your post mentions a 2012 MacBook Pro which is not a Snow Leopard machine.

How much space depends on how you'll use it and how you configure.  I would like to make at least 30 GB so there is a little space, wiggle but if you start to install the applications then 60 + GB.

I know most recent disk utilities are supposed to be able to resize partitions without erasing but I'll make sure you have solid backups first.

You can assign a 'resolved' and two "helpfuls".

  • Download the files from the folder on the external drive

I have this script that opens the most recent file in a folder.

However I have now moved to an external drive.

I thought I would use this line

last element of the value latestFile (sort (get the files in the folder "HotFolderA" of the "Dropbox folder" from the folder "CloudStorage" in the folder "Volumes" of the file ((path to the startup disk))) by creation date) as alias

    but that

    Result:

error "' Finder has been an error: cannot get the file \"Volumes\ ' startup disk. " ' number-1728 of the folder "Volumes" of startup disk

How can I do it keep this method?

    Matt

    tell application "Finder"
set latestFile to last item of (sort (get files of folder "AA" of folder (path to desktop folder)) by creation date) as alias
    set fileName to latestFile's name

     open latestFile
    end tell

You used the backslash \ (like Windows) instead of the slash /.
