Why HP only allow more big hard drives and SSD when restoring Images of original & software OS system?

8.1 Windows recently damaged my PC h8-1559 (still under warranty). All was not if badly grown f11 empty blue screen and boot BSOD loop was the only thing besides the BIOS that I could see. I must have spent days trying to get Win 8 on my SSD after you purchase this month of PC. Now I have to restore PC to original specifications and again migrate the OS back to SSD. Not really a problem I expect no support, given how much anti-'customize' computers became under software and hardware developers who blame or place the responsibility on each other for the most part.

I just want to know:

That HP decided smaller HDD and SSD should never be allowed to use the pre-built PCs and why? More importantly, why has it remained for many years after many complaints over the years? Thank you.

Hey Hastatus

I can understand your frustration, but the smaller reader that works is 160 GB. The way the image is put on the disk and extended requires a lot of partitions and each of them is created to a certain height, these sizes were decided before the SSD, and when disk space was not that great, a case, but it was arbitrary. As SSD became more popular and used in some of our systems we made some special changes in plants in order to allow a 60 GB drive to use. But the changes were not made to any other builds, there was not only considered.

As SSD became more popular, they are also grew in size, so the decision was made to leave the requirement of 160 GB. It's not a way to go back and change to the older, but we will spend this feedback to our engineering teams.

Bottom line - usable - more small disk 160 GB regardless of the type (HDD or SSD).

Sorry not information just solution.

  • Impossible to get more big HARD drive to be recognized on DV9420CA

DV9420CA laptop came with TWO 120 GB drives. Phoenix Bios has been updatded for the last authorized by ch. Trying (2010) to upgrade the second drive on a 1 TB drive. It crashes on sizes larger than the original 120 GB drive. WHY?

    Thank YOU in advance.

    Expert?

Taken at the local comp store, they understood.  You CAN upgrade to any drive size, BUT you should replace BOTH drives at the same time with exactly same size disks. Chipset has two outputs for Sata, one for the DVD and one for hard disks that is split in two, so they must have the same size. I have now two 500 GB drives and it works very well, thank you. Don't forget to replace the two discs with the same exact size discs and it should work.

  • It is possible add a smaller hard drive and load windows os on it so that the system boots from that?

    I have a new h9-1150 systems.

Have a hard drive 2 TB as OS main drive seems like a loss, especially if it crashes. This would make a great backup disk, but Windows 7 is already installed on it. Is it possible to transfer Windows to a secondary drive?

    Hello

There are few software around which allow you to clone your HDD in a new HARD drive. Normally, you have to work the numbers (whereby the software). I have clone from a HDD of 750 GB for one SSD 120 GB for my wife machine, 2 weeks back using a product called O & O Diskimage, I had to reduce the c: less than 120 GB first. Now, my wife machine runs on a 120 GB SSD and serve a second HDD of 750Go.

    I hope this helps.

  • Replacing the hard drive and the OS restore

Hello, I have a Latitude E5520, who was clinging to the srartup with a Startup Repair going on forever.
I have run the diagnostics ePSA and got the error Code 2000 - 0142 with validation 14116, which means that the disk hard is not working properly and should be replaced. This part is covered by my warranty and eligible for automated transmission. So all I have to do is to fill my delivery info.
BUT I do not have a CD of the OS. I see that you provide online all the drivers etc, but I'm worried how I could restore the system with windows 7 OS without a CD or a restore CD. This is the replacement hard drive equipped with restoring the OS option? Or did he just totally blank?

    T.I.A.

You also need to restore the media since you are still under warranty.

  • replace the hard drive and Windows 7 restore

The HD on my HP Pavilion dv6 - 6047c had been giving me problems for a few months and two days ago, I received a warning about an iminent HD crash.  Quickly, I created a disk of restore CD and I am looking to buy a replacement HD.  Here are a few options from Amazon.

Q1 - is - it of these pretty decent replacement options or are there better alternatives?

Q2 - after that the HD is replaced, how install my operating system Windows 7 on the new HD?  This is done automatically via the restore disc?  I need to order a kit from HP restore?   It is here where I am lost and don't know how this process works.  I understand there are BONES of the work here of license restrictions.

    Thank you for your help.

    You are the very welcome.

I am pleased to have been of assistance.

  • How to display ONLY the photos on my hard drive and remove the duplicates it.

I bought Photo Sweeper but have heard warnings of ' reference fileis and the risk of the original photo, sitting on the hard drive.  .  Is there a way to see ONLY photos on the hard drive and use Photo Sweeper here?

Background: on my HP PC for years, I've created folders for each Member of our family.  Thus, a paper copy of each group photo were regularly filed in each issue of people pictured in it.  Migration to iPhoto and iMac five years ago, all copies of the same photo were transferred on my Mac.  More recently, I've migrated my iPhotos library of Photos.  I would like to clarify these multiple copies to a hard copy, but I feel of the complications and risks. In particular, the integrity of all the projects I did (for example attach a photo to the album, a book or a slide show) could be compromised if I happen to remove the copy special paper which refers to this picture (the correct term?).

It seems to me that, if I could see the actual photos on the hard drive and use the double Finder here, I could get the job done.  I could combine that info (faces, keywords, descriptions) that I added on a large number of copies and sign him for a single copy and then to eliminate duplicates. Would this work?   Back to a project, I could see a photo with a warning icon, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside, which indicates the hard drive file to which he referred is now defunct.  I could (I guess I could, but how!) change things to make this photo point to rest a copy on the hard disk, couldn't I?

Tips appreciated.  The notice are maybe just don't not to alter my photo library, but it says that I have almost 30 000 photos. I know this isn't so.   Thank you.

    Your question is not clear

What Version of the operating system and Photos you have? You have a referenced library or a managed library? What specific "warnings" topic referenced b = files you are?

Please explain what you have and what is your concern

  • Satellite P300 - upgrade to larger hard drives and 7200 RPM?

I have a Satellite P300, model PSPCCA-01W073 (sold in Australia). Machine has two 320 GB of HARD drive. Yes, it's all up to 640 GB. I upgraded to Windows 7 OS and I have dual boot in to Linux Ubuntu.

My job is editing/processing of multimedia files big and my hard drives are overexploited, so I now I am forced to exchange large files back and fourth with various USB hard drives. If I can replace the existing readers with much larger models, then I will go ahead and do it. .. But at this point, I'm out of my depth!

I asked the support from Toshiba if P300 supports larger disks but they will not engage all the answers outside the original specifications. They suggest that I should try Toshiba users forum for more help.

A kind person could tell me if it is possible to run drives 320 GB and the size. Also, I believe that the existing drives are 5400 RPM. My online store parts and pieces of local computer lists a choice between Hitachi, WD, Seagate and Samsung with sizes:

    (2.5 "/ 5400 RPM") 320 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB as well as sizes: (2.5 "/ 7200 rpm") 500 GB, 640 GB and 750 GB.

So my second question; y at - it no advantage or disadvantage to the superior speed of 7200 RPM.

TIA, your help should prevent to me yet an another expensive blunder.

    Hello

Theoretically more big hard drives must be supported and should not be a big problem to use this HARD drive as the SATA controller is not limited to any size.

Also the use of the faster HARD drive 7200 RPM should not affect the performance of the laptop even if this HARD drive faster produce more heat

In my opinion you can upgrade to a larger and faster HARD drive

  • Renamed the external hard drive and now 5 Lightroom can't locate photos that were underway

My husband uses Lightroom 5.  All of his pictures are saved and imported from an external hard drive.  Today it has renamed the hard drive, and later, when he went to the room open light, it does not find who he had worked on the picture.  Photos and those that it has exported are still on the hard drive, but he was still editing are not displayed.  Any ideas?

Because Lightroom uses the hard real path for images, change the name of HD has broken this link. The best way to restore the link is to go in the library, make a right click (control click on Mac) the folders on the left side and select the location of the update folder. If the images are in a closed file as the top-level folder (recommended) digital capture needs updating. If there is a lot of files, then you will need to update each record separately...

Can I replace 60 G Cdrive with a bigger hard drive. How can I transfer the operating system and programs installed to the new drive. HP 6 G drive may be removed or used.

jonnbrown wrote: I can replace 60 G Cdrive with a bigger hard drive. How can I transfer the operating system and programs installed to the new drive. HP 6 G drive may be removed or used.

Hello jonnbrown, you can almost always replace an existing hard drive with a larger capacity hard drive. There are a few considerations to know.

You must know the limitations of the BIOS for a hard drive. Some allow up to 127 GB of capacity. Most more recent system BIOS will allow the larger hard disks.

It may be possible to update an older BIOS so that it would accept a HDD capacity more than the limit of 127 GB.

It is suggested that, whenever you replace a hard drive in a system, you perform a new installation of the operating system.

Sometimes, you can use a program that does a disk hard image and save it to another device, such as an external hard drive and the use of this image to restore new hard disk. You cannot be to simply copy data from the old hard drive to the new hard drive.

You may be able to use the 60 GB hard drive as a backup disk once the new hard drive is installed and the system works as it should, if you have a location in the case of another hard drive.

Yes. Find LR catalog file in Edit/settings/general catalogue. Close LR and go to this place. The catalog file is one that ends by .lrcat - move it where you want. Beside the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move, but if you don't not LR will generate new insights. Double-click the .lrcat file in her new home and LR will open with this catalogue. Set preferences in more recent catalogue.
