Why is not able to open new tabs in Firefox all of a sudden?
Recently, I installed an update of Firefox and now all of a sudden, I can not open a new tab using the button '+' on the side of an open window, or in the option "file/new tab", or "ctrl + T" button combination. I can, however, open the link in a new tab, but I can't open just a new tab - there must be a link. How to remedy? It worked before the upgrade.
The Ask toolbar is originally only in versions of Firefox 3.6.13 +. Uninstall this extension.
There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:
- Check the control panel Windows for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
- Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

Open new tab in firefox newly updated
When you click the plus sign "+" to open a new tab, it nothing happens. Same thing when you select 'file' and 'new tab' or press ctrl + T. I rolled back three days in a row to this version of firefox and keeps it updated to this version.
I need to be able to open a new tab and access all of my sites more often used. Help, please. I don't want to go back to IE.
Hello, this is probably caused by an add-on incompatible - in case you have more installed label mix, try update to its latest version on its homepage...

open new tabs in firefox on Ubuntu 12.04 12.0
Open new tabs randomly during firefox sessions. By example, if I leave firefox running all night, the morning there will be 4-6, open new tabs, even if the computer was intact all the time. Don't open new tabs to the Web sites; they just empty.
It always happens with a new and clean profile?
You can use this profile only during the night.

Windows Vista
Hello
Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
- In previous versions of Firefox, click on the Firefox button in the upper left of the Firefox window and click help (or click on help in the Menu bar, if you do not have a Firefox button) and click on restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
- On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
- On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.
- In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button

Update Firefox 23 to 24. Since then, I can't create new tabs though when I navigate to 'close the tabs right' it displays correctly the number of tabs, I tried to create and close. He however open tabs from links. The sounds that you are on version beta update channel (help > subject).
This also happens with the current version?
You can find the full version of the latest version of Firefox 23.0 in all languages and for all systems operating here:
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.
See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

My question says it all. I click on the new tab button and nothing opens. By clicking on the links will open a new tab, if necessary, or using "Open in new tab" seems to work very well.
Uninstall the toolbar Ask and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask and Firefox toolbar that prevents the opening of new tabs.
There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:
- Check the control panel Windows for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4

Firefox does not open more than one window at a time, and then opens only new tabs. When asked to open the link in a new window - nothing happens, no error message or the page appears. Otherwise, it works great, but no new firefox window cannot be opened menu or the mouse. I tried to reinstall firefox several times, which did not help.
This has happened
Each time Firefox opened
Is 3-4 months ago
There are some extensions that are causing a problem like that. See this:

Update does not connect to update server, not able to download new version of Firefox.
Every time when I am asked to upgrade to a new version of Firefox, the updater refuses to connect to the update server. When downloading it manually, I get a message that says "unknown disk image. What should do? As this is a security update, it would be nice to have downloaded...
If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop disk image (dmg)
- Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
- Install the new version you downloaded
Your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

When I turn on my new laptop, I want to www.google.ca to open and I want to be able to open new tabs/windows from this page. I tried to set the default to open this page, but it seems stuck on "Edge".
Hello
You use Windows Edge as default browser?
(a) If Yes, then try to google.ca as your home page by using the following configuration:
http://www.HP.com/global/us/en/consumer/digital_photography/free/software/photo-creations.html
(b) if not, what browser do you prefer? Firefox, Chrome, or something else?
Kind regards.

I used the same setup file, but on 1 pc, the "Open new tab" button is available in the menu 'Customize toolbar' and can be dragged and drop on the navigation bar. On the other pc, the "Open new tab" button/icon is not yet available for drag / drop. I uninstalled firefox completely, including the settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that has not fixed the missing button.
Hello
Please try to restore the default value in the Customize... window. If it is still not visible, one of the reasons could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar, but can be hidden behind a different icon or toolbar.
