Why-letter from external drives gets changed in windows 7

Hi all

Can someone please advise, why the external drive letters gets changed even after changing disk management in windows 7.

He worked for two days and turns again.

In Windows, each external storage device is assigned a unique ID (UID). That UID and the corresponding parameters are stored in the registry. The seetings include the drive letter assigned as well. If one of the drive letter is assigned to tell the reader, manually, after unplugging it, the same drive letter assigned to the drive B, the letter for the drive B. For example, if A player is connected again, a new letter is assigned automatically. You may notice that the drive letter for drive B cannot be used as drive B is disconnected, and yet the settings in the registry makes Windows assign a new drive letter to a drive, like the manually assinged drive letter B is allocated for drive B and the next time you connect player B the same drive letter is assigned, according to the registry settings.

I also noticed that it seems to happen to Canon. Raw CR2 files and not Nikon. Raw NEF files. If someone has had this problem or have any suggestions?

  • My external drive thunderbolt causes 10 Windows to reboot into Bootcamp. Normal?  Difficulty?

I have an imac of retina.  I use Parallels to begin Windows 10 without any problem at all.  Unfortunately, due to a problem of graphics card, one application will not work properly.  They advised me to install Windows 10 using Bootcamp, repeat this application and see if it works.  This resolved the conflict with this software.

Unfortunately, Windows kept re-booting and ultimately would crash and must be put back in place (at least it seems).  I did this same process several times.

Process of elimination, I found that if I unplugged the external drive thunderbolt, it resolved 100% of the problem.  No more problems with the re-start.

I tried researching and I see people have problems with the Thunderbolt and Windows 10 screens, but really nothing else mentioned.

My understanding is that this is not a conflict when you use Parallels because I am still running off the Apple ecosystem, but thanks to bootcamp with Windows only running, it gets confused by the thunderbolt connection.

I know that this may be more a problem of winner - snoozing, but is there any work around this other disconnect me the Thunderbolt disc whenever I want to use the version of Bootcamp for Windows 10?

    Thank you.

  • Cannot assign letter from external hard drive

    Hello
I have an external hard drive and I am unable to assign a drive letter. I went through the MMC console for disk mgmt, but the only options I get are delete volume or help. Disk Management shows the drive is primary and in good health. (OS: Vista SP1)

Please help, as I have important documents on this drive.

    A few things to check.

1 Event Viewer. See if there are errors. They can give clues as to what happened with the reader.
    2. check the Device Manager and see if you have devices with a red or yellow marker on them.

  • Accidentally lost all my files from external drive in disk utility

Hi guys, I will try to be very clear since its my first time, ask a question here.

Then, I opened the disk utility and attempted to create a partition on my external hard drive 1 TB Toshiba USB3.0 (I thought I might have a separate location of 100 GB). But instead, I end up getting the hard drive is blank and changed to OS X (HFS) in MS-DOS (FAT32) mode.

So my question here, just delete all of my information? If so, how can I get it back? Or just create a partition and the other information are hidden (which would be like a miracle)?

It is very important, I have to retrieve this information. I had close to 900 GB of professionals to the personal files. All my work, years of personal projects of my digital life is here.

    Help, please!

  • Recovery of data from external drive

I can read is no longer my external hard drive. I hear the drive makes noise, but the removable disk drive does not appear on my directory on the computer more. I think that the drive has failed. The data on the disc are very important. Is there a way I can still recover?

Do we have to be so literal? 2 screws will allow you to read the hard drive. To get out of the House to do anything useful with it's going to take a lot longer. But find the video on youtube was excellent work. I was talking of LaCie drives as those that can be a real bear enter.

And here's a site showing in pictures how to use the ide to usb as I have and recommend.

A large needle to point out is the drive hard ide must be master jumper or it may not work right.

  • Copy of Virtual Machine from external drive to SAN

    Hello

I'm looking for advice on the best way to copy a Virtual Machine and its files from an external USB drive on an ESX Datastore (the data store is a logic on the SAN unit number that is attached to the ESX Server).

I was going to connect a PC on the same VLan, set the USB to the PC then load vSphere Client, navigate to the data store and then choose 'download files '.  This is the recommended option?  I remember reading somewhere before on formatting the USB drive in FAT32 and then mount it on the ESX Server?

    Thank you.

Forget about editing of the USB key to the ESX host. Just use vSphere client to transfer files, or enable SSH access to your host and use SCP (WinSCP or FastSCP are great options) to transfer your files to your data warehouses.

  • How to recover lost files from external drive

We erased all the content on a backup external seagate more desktop drive because we BONE-headedly failed eject the drive, that doesn't not want to clear beforehand.

What is the best way to recover these files, if there is one. Oh!

No if you have reused the player and "crushed" of your files. Otherwise, see below:

    General file recovery

If you stop using the drive it is possible to recover files that have not been overwritten by using the recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, recovering files or TechTool Prodeleted.  Each of the previous ones come on a bootable CD for use without risk to write more data to the disc.  Two free alternatives are disk drill and Cisdem DataRecovery. Recovery software generally provides trial versions which allows you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond that, or if the drive has completely failed, you must send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.

The hard drive remains the most widely used and the data are recorded, the greater the chance that your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Moving music from external drive

Here's what I'm trying to do / what I've done.

    1 bought new Macmini (fact)

2 transferred old Macmini new information (fact)

    3. iPhoto for Photo (actually, a little pain)

    4 iTunes library (not done)

After taking a while to understand that iphoto photo, I thought I might try iTunes and see how that happened. Disaster. At a point with my old mini, I started to import directly to my outside. Sure that I did it because the hard drive was quite small. Whenever I listened to music, I turn the exteriors, and iTunes to recognize and play everything. Now that the hard drive with the new computer in a format that non-space, I would get all the music on the new computer. For some reason, I can't return to my mini old music for new Mac, and the new mac does not recognize outside. Almost, if not all, of the music is out of existing CD, so I'm not worried, if I can't get this figured out. I can't believe it must be this hard, but I'm having no luck. As always, thanks for the help.

It depends on what files you have where. You have the entire library on the outside or do you only media files?  If the entire library, you can move it:

Moving a library: quick response if you use preferences by default iTunes settings: copy the folder integer iTunes (and to ensure that all of its subfolders and files) intact at the other disk, hold down the option/alt key (shift on Windows) keys to start iTunes and on request to select a library select iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder.  https://support.Apple.com/HT201596

If only the media files, you need to consolidate:

    Yo!

A bit of a ball in the twilight. I'm wondering is someone else had this unit, tried to change the way it has been implemented and "messed up." I would take this one back and get another - especially if you got it in one of the "big box" stores If you're inclined to try to fix it, be aware that this may affect your ability ot return it for Exchange or credit. Depends the seller policies.

Right mouse click have the drive in the list to see the options. If they are correctly set, it may be possible to simply assign a drive letter to each volume of 'empty' If this configuration is OK with you.

Otherwise, the fix would involve will use the facilities of disc to remove the present volumes, and then creating one or more. Make sure that you choose to format the logical disks as and assign it a drive letter. See the Windows Help system.
