Why my icon of firefox start page have a tail long flames all around the globe?

My firefox icon immediately becomes an icon with a flamboyant long tail that encircles the globe. This is one of 3 or 4 citations that appear under the icon: "click here to register and post a message to your social network in honor of our 10th anniversary this month! I clicked on the Home icon to the start page of Mozilla Firefox. He has worked a couple of times, but not more. I have reset firefox twice. I rebooted with disabled modules.

A couple of weeks ago, there was another icon that lasted a few weeks. I stopped using Firefox at that time here with the exception of browsing the web.

I see a photo of the icon on the web.

Thanks for any help, Dianebl5

If you prefer not to see excerpts on the topic: home page or otherwise have problems with a snippet of code, you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref an empty string on the topic: config page.
Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about + House in the closed Firefox with Firefox profile folder (Firefox '3-bar' menu button > exit/Quit) remove code snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox to use a default extract value.
You can reset the pref browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl through the context menu on the default to reactivate the code snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-trunk-fort-about + folder.
You have to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the preference of browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

There seems to be a MAJOR problem (blocking/memory leak) in "subject: House", also known as start up Firefox, 26.0 Firefox Page, Windows!

    seen on:
-Windows 7 x 64 machine with 12 GB of RAM and high performance CPU (core i7-920)
-Comments Machine virtual WinXP SP3 (in Oracle VirtualBox) running on the same computer
-Intel Atom D525 netbook with 4 GB of RAM, running Win7 x 64

None of these machines are connected through Sync or something like that. The Firefox instance on the virtual machine is a fresh install / clean.

    The problem:
-100% of cpu usage for 10 seconds, (util in XP) memory usage goes up to 1.7 GB
-If "subject: House" is actually the Firefox Start Page, it blocks the computer at startup of Firefox for 10 seconds
-If "subject: House" isn't the Firefox Start Page, startup is fine - BUT if I press the "home" on the toolbar button it loads "on: House" which causes the same question once again

Sounds that there is a problem with one of the code snippets that are responsible. I've seen several reports on this issue.

  • How to bring back the feature Fall alphabetical down from my previous research in the center of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page Google search box?

In the afternoon of August 24, I lost a feature on my Start Page of Mozilla Firefox and I can't understand how to get it back. It is the Google search box in the middle of the page. Previously, when I want to do a search, for example Amazon, I must type the letter 'A', and because I had typed "Amazon" in this area of research before, a drop down menu alphabetical would come with "Amazon" in it. I could then click on this word without having to type the rest of it. This option no longer works.

I did an update of Adobe Reader that Friday morning, so I thought that maybe why it happened. I did a system restore, and brings the system back to Tuesday, August 21. That did not help.

I ran CCleaner and cleaned the registry also. Oddly enough, I found that just after that I have this and then open a Mozilla Firefox Start Page, the alphabetical drop-down list feature is back in the center of the search for once, bar a single search. After that he went again. I'm going in and do just CCleaner (no cleaning required registry) and the same thing happens... the functionality is there for a search only.

I went and made sure all my Add-ons/Plug-ins are up-to-date. I also ran a full scan of the system, but no problem came.

I am computer illiterate, so please bear with me. I don't know if the things that I tried would have helped or not.

    I have Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1

I appreciate any help you can provide.

It worked! I went in "Troubleshooting information" and click on "Reset Firefox" that solved the problem. Thank you very much.

    Try the following:

    (1) go to Subject: config (type in the address bar).

    (2) enter.

    (3) search browser.startup.homepage.

    (4) this variable controls what page is loaded when you start Firefox.
