Why so many major new versions?

Why did we have so many new versions of Firefox this year? A milestone was reached when 4.x came out at the begging of the year and since then, we have had versions 5.x, 6.x, 7.x and now 8.x within a few months. It seems that version 9 is already in beta...

Most of the updates seem to be minor or intermediate in nature - and certainly nothing that would require a major version release - so why so many new versions this year?

In addition, given that the installation of update don't does not automatically move you to the next major release, are all these versions still supported?

Updates have been replaced by a quick release cycle and that means an upgrade every 6 weeks for the next major release.

The new version replaces the previous version and that version is no longer supported.

Only Firefox 3.6.23 and Firefox 8.0 are supported.

Currently, Firefox 7.0.1 is always available as a result of the investigation of reports of incidents.

  • Why does'nt this new version works with Norton worm 6? My old version of Firefox is!

My old version of Firefox worked perfectly with Norton Antivirus Version 6 just bought. I have updated to you application to the new version of Firefox, which now claims I have 5.5 Norton which is not supported. It makes no sense at all. My secure connections and auto password doesn't work anymore and I want that protection through Norton. Please advise me.

Symantec needs update their Firefox Add-ons to make them compatible with Firefox 4. They indicated that, for Norton 360, they plan to release a update of Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early may - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web & docurl = 20100720113635EN & ln = en_US

I don't know about the time scale for the updates for other Norton products. Waiting for the update by Symantec, if you want to use Norton modules, you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.

Downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first of all uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option 'remove my Firefox personal data '. If you select this option, it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

Then you can install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your favorite courses, passwords etc.

I recommend, to avoid possible problems with decommissioning, accessing your profile folder and delete the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Delete these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, check their compatibility and cancel the toolbar customizations.

  • Why is there a newer version that I installed (with automatic update)

Advice of ScanCircle I use the version of Mozilla Thunderbird 31.6.0 (x 86 en - us) 31.6.0, but the latest version is of 38.0.
Ditto for Mozilla Firefox (x 86 en - us) where I am under 37.0.2, but the latest version here 38.0 also.
My system is configured to update these programs automatically (and I get updates).
ScanCircle becomes an incorrect version (how?) and if not, why I'm under an older version?

38.0 Firefox and Thunderbird 38.0 was not released until Tuesday May 12 Pacific time. https://wiki.Mozilla.org/releases

37.0.2 of Firefox and Thunderbird 31.6.0 are still the current releases.

  • Why not open the files old Indesign with the new versions of programs?

A member of my team has updated to the new version of Indesign 2015 and now she cannot open one of our old files.

I'm too afraid to update my Indesign now or I won't be able to open anything either!

Why doesn't the new version let you open the old files?

What can we do for them, we often open old files use & update for new catalogues/flyer/projects.

You should be able to open InDesign CC 2014 files in version 9.3.

Two simple conditions must be met to do this:

    (a) you must be connected to the application using your Adobe ID

    (b) you must be connected to the internet.

Provided that the two conditions above are met, when you try to open a document in version higher in a lower version (from CS6), you should be able to see a dialog box asking if you want the document to be converted to a compatible version.

I paste a snapshot of the description on this feature, called "Simple Save return" here:

  • Should I buy now FCPX if a new version may be on its way at the end of October?

I'm considering the purchase of FCPX at level of iMovie, because I must be able to work with multiple cameras and work with more than one PIP at a time.  Also I'm not a power user in anyway...

In any case looking around, I see rumors of a possible major new version announced in late October.  I don't know about how the purchase and update of FCPX works so if I had to buy now, I would be able to upgrade to the new version (assuming that it is a major release) or would I have to pay all over again?  Could I be better waiting four weeks until the end of the month?

    What do you think?

I would like to know.  I have to pay for future improvements.  At the end of the 1990s, Adobe Photoshop cost 1299.  You would have to pay to go to Photoshop 5.0 to 6.0, etc.  It was sold to the library at my college, and students got a small discount.  My first digital camera was a pd150.  From interested parties.

  • Why disable common features and hide completely to use a new version of firefox

When a new version of Firefox comes out the end, all to often when there new features or a programmer has a different idea of what they like from the previous version, the features are enabled by default and things are rearranged without any choice by the user. A concrete example is that when I installed Firefox 24 on my wife's computer he disabled the menu bar and put the tabs on top. To add insult to injury, there is no settings option to put the hind below! I do not how much someone loves the tabs on the top, the right way to handle these kinds of feature upgrades is to leave everything as it was in terms of parameters and display a web page that contains a button that says what each change with a Yes and no button so that the user can try if they want TO or not , and not just say (effectively) "we are the Lords and ask you to use this and we know better. If this method is too difficult then just don't change the settings and leave a page "what's new". I know it is free SW and contribute many dedicated, but to do your darnedest to confuse or annoy your users is not the way to do it. Imagine if you took your car to have a new mounted radio and when you got the brake pedal was in the backseat and the guy said "we like better that way.

BTW, to have the tabs just above the web pages you are watching way makes more sense to have the 3 lines now.

    Hello

Most people answer on the support forum is volunteers of Mozilla (including me) so we are not able to comment on that kind of decision. We are not involved in choosing how new versions are gone.

The best place to make a comeback would be this page:

    https://input.Mozilla.org/en-GB/feedback

If you want to make Firefox v24 v3 looks like, then you can use a theme such as Firefox 3 theme.

See also here for more information: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/895542

I hope this helps. Let me know if not.

  • I want to know why when I go to help update v 12.0 every time, I get a message says that my version is up to date, when I know that a new version (16.0.2) came out?

This happens everytime I go to the update function (tools/help/to what Firefox/check updates). Given that the version I use (12.0) is sometimes gel and refusing to load pages effectively (requires a Firefox stop and restart), and I know that starting with version 15.0, this issue has been resolved to a large extent, I understand not why the update function refuses to see the new version and update that this program has ALWAYS been in the past. Something is wrong and I need to know why this happens.

It could be that the internal update has been corrupted. Try just go to www.getfirefox.com and download Firefox 16.0.2

  • I downloaded the new version, but firefox says always that I must update - why, and if there's a step 'install' miss me why are there no instructions on how to do?

Why Firefox didn't insist that I still use version 3. It doesn't matter when I downloaded faithfully new versions when he tells me to do so-recently version 8. whatever (today). If "downloading" is not enough and there is also a stage of 'install', I still find anywhere in Firefox that tells me how to do. I restarted my computer, but this does not seem to make a difference. He always tells me that I use an outdated version that soon is not supported.

There are 2 ways to update 1) using the built-in update function and 2) download an install version complete.

Let's do #2 for now. Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the exe on your desktop. Closing Firefox. Run the installation program that you downloaded to your desktop. Open Firefox. If you always said you run the 3.6.24 version, your user agent can be spoiled. If this is the case do the following:

Enter about: config in the URL bar and press ENTER.

If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access this page.

    Filter = general.useragent.

The preferences that are bold, one line at a time, right-click and select Reset.

    Then restart Firefox

  • Why that I lose my apps tab and tab groups each time firefox is updating to a new version?

It seems that every time I get a new version of firefox my apps tab and groups disappear. Why this happens and what I can do about it?

You should see this button on the tab bar, once you have created a group of tabs.

If you cannot find it then open the Customize and drag the button to the tab groups in the palette of the toolbar on a toolbar.

Open the Customize via "view > toolbars > customize" or "Firefox > Options > toolbars."

  • Pandora radio is not working properly, they saty I need to upgrade to a newer version of firefox. Not very clear how to do this? fire fox says I have an old version. I need help to update, why it so difficult?

Pandora radio is not working properly, they say I have to upgrade to a newer version of Fire Fox. Fire Fox very little makes it clear on how to do it. I'm not a computer genius! I have an outdated version. Summer

You are using Firefox 3, which is the previous major version. The current version is Firefox 7. I'm not familiar with your Facebook plugin, so I don't know if it is compatible. If it isn't, Firefox will automatically tell you and ask you if you want to check the updates. You can download the installer of Firefox 7 by clicking here.

  • Why are you up-to-date Firefox so fast? I have problems with my Internet Bank each time until they have updated their software. And at this point, you already have a new version.

I have a popup that says there is a new version and I don't know how to get rid of it.
As I said in the question I encounter problems when you update too many times in one year.
I didn't know where to ask this question. There may be a better place, but I could not find.

@uinsin42, there is no Firefox 8.0. 2 and 3.6.28 versions of Mozilla as the most recent for each is 8.0. 1 and 3.6.24

  • Why the Firefox 4 is not restore all the sessions that were open at the time? Before the update, I've been invited either ("SAVE AND QUIT") or even if she closed UNEXPECTEDLY (crushed), he AGAIN restored. New version does not offer "save and exit".

    Question
Why don't Firefox4 restore any sessions that were open at the time? Before the update, I've been invited either ('SAVE AND QUIT'), or even if it closed UNEXPECTEDLY (crash etc) it STILL restored everything. New version does not offer "save and exit".

Now, Firefox always stores the old session which you can access from the history menu by selecting "restore previous Session."

If you always open the last set of tabs, another approach is the following:

    1. Click on the orange button Firefox, then select options to open the options window
    2. Go to the general Panel
    3. Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "show my windows and tabs from last time '.

I think iTunes might be showing your iCloud music purchases. Go to the menu bar, and unselect display-> show iCloud music purchases.
