Norton/Symantec is known to cause strange problems and aggravate others. Better is to uninstall

    ------------------------------

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    I hope this helps.

  • Windows Vista has stopped working

I'm trying to fix my moms laptop that has windows vista on it. I can get it to start very well is not the problem. I can sign and take an account, if I open the Task Manager to get to the desktop. In the contrary case, it freezes on the Welcome screen. The laptop only works in safe mode, but clearly this is not what I want.

I want to plant restoration of the thing. But he said that I did not restore on the computer points. I tried to go into the Protection system and I can only change the name of the computer. I'm trying to set up the restore point, but it just doesn't work. Can someone please tell me how to plant to restore this laptop until I drive me nuts?

(The model is compaq presario CQ60 with processor intel pentium dual core, clear of Windows Vista)

    Hello

System restore points are not a resumption of the plant back to new condition.

Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key several times , about once a second, until the Recovery Manager opens.

Or in Vista, use the HP Recovery Manager to reinstall the operating system.

    Download updates for

There was a problem with that caused it to stop working correctly.

Your computer may run out of updates that can help improve its stability and security.

Go online to search for and install the Important updates and recommended.

    1. Click here to access the Windows Update Web site online

    2. In the left pane, click check for updates. If updates are found, click view available updates.

    3. Select all important updates and then click install. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

      Note
If you have activated the automatic update, you can not see important updates listed. If this is the case, the updates have already been downloaded to your computer.

I am aware of the windows updates.

  • Win 7 error "Windows Explorer has stopped working"

Using Win 7 Home Premium, I get a pretty consistent message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and the auto check routine does not come to the top with a solution.  I know for sure I can do it almost everytime with a right click on the Recycle Bin (I'm trying to empty).  My security program is Microsoft Security Essentials.

None of the positions worked for me. However, I could use the logger and hunt down later.

Here's how: go to the beginning
where it says, "computer", right click and select 'manage '.
under System Tools, select "Observer of events," look under "type of event" and find errors.
Scan down the list - make sure that the window is quite large, so you can see the errors in the last day (or maybe it's time).
When I did, I found many errors about "windows Explorer." When you click on one, it opens a box with details. All the ones I checked had the same details, more or less.
Most of the details seemed incomprehensible, but, in my case, a particular .dll kept being mentioned, file called AFLDLL. DLL.
what he said was: the name of the failing module: AFLDLL. Unloaded DLL or something to that effect
So, I went to start, search and put in AFLDLL. DLL and I was able to determine it related to a program for iomega dvd writer cd burning.
When I uninstalled this program from the Control Panel, add remove programs, the problem stopped.
Maybe the causes are different for different people. but at least it will give you an idea.
Maybe you can find some information on what is involved in your mistakes of "windows explorer".

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded: run DrirveView - set the VIEW to hide
Microsoft drivers - update those without drain in their names. (Also update BIOS and)

drivers chipset on the site of the constructor/the system motherboard.)

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

How to install a device driver in Vista Device Manager
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-Device-Manager-install-driver.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

My Windows Installer has stopped working all of a sudden (probably common last week).  I get no error message at all.  It simply doesn't get it.  The programs can be installed and uninstalled by there own systems updated, but the changes are not reflected in "programs and features".  When I ask Windows Installer to run under programs and features, I get the usual verification pop-ups, but once I click on the last approval, nothing happens.

I tried to install a new Windows Installer from the Microsoft Download site and each time, the program "check updates" and I get an error message that says "this update does not apply to your version," (to paraphrase).  I tried to install Windows 6.0, v-2, x 64, but when it does not work I tried all (LOL) with the same result.

At first I thought that my computer can was struck by a malicious code, so I ran MSE, remove malicious software (FULL) Windows for January and Advanced System Care 3.  All scans is come-up 100% clean!

I tried to restore my computer to a point 3 days does not.  As Murphy's law would have, I disabled the restore before January 12 points.

Windows Update online might work.  I get notifications for optional updates for MSE and AFAIK, they are applied.

Edit: One more important thing, the uninstall on Advanced System Care 3 feature does more either.  It's almost like the hooks to the installer of Windows have been removed to that also.

Installation service seems to be very well and the value 'manual '.

Any thoughts on the subject?  I can reload Windows from "day 1", but would rather not.  Laughing out loud.  I have my drive so.  :-)

Thanks in advance for your help.
