Why they provide a compression of the start menu?

I would really like to know this because I love the way the start menu works on Windows XP.
Since Windows Vista, and now with Windows 7, when I go to "all programs" all my program items are listed in a 1 list under each other and considered as nested when I click on a folder. I always have a certain programs installed that use the start menu and it really clutters the list. Of course, everything is sorted, but which is not what I mean. I would like to see "all programs" fold on display again as the classic Start menu or how it worked in Windows XP. It worked simple and effective. Now I need to find a great list of applications, I installed and sometimes to open a file that makes the list even longer.

Now I use 3rd party applications which changes the start menu to do these things, but these programs are often not free and when they do they have other problems that I won't discuss here for obvious reasons. ;)

So my question is simple: is it still re-create they way manipulated XP style 'all programs' expansion? As it is now it greatly reduced my experience with Windows. All the guys at the office think also that it is quite a problem.

I hope that I have explained the situation well otherwise I try to answer your questions. :)

Thanks in advance.

  • Why the icons disappear from the Start Menu?

The Start Menu has two regions: a region for applications whose icons are pinned to the Start Menu and two region, for applications whose icons are not pinnend to the start menu... the positions of icons these vary, depending on the frequency of use.

Why in the region shortcut icons do not disappear into the Start Menu?
They are not being "jostled" more low ranking... they stop just appear.
Open an application can hand its icon at two area of the Start Menu,
but then after a few days (maybe earlier), for example, the icon is missing.

You already have the answer yourself.

"The two region" can only hold x number of icons... Let's say 7.
If you later open a 8th program, among the list of 7 will be "hit.

  • Why won't one of the picture of the user displayed in the Start Menu?

On our old Netbook, there are 2 users. I am the administrator and my wife is a regular user. I have two of our photos in our profiles and our user accounts. Whenever I start, my picture is at the top of the start menu as it should. When my wife connects and starts, there is no picture in the start menu. I checked three times. All the settings on the two users are the same. Her image appears everywhere else it is supposed to, such as the log on screen, etc. What can I do to get it to show? A clue for you can be its start menu is much greater than mine. By that, I mean it takes more space, has more characters and icons. I checked all the settings too. They are all the same. Thanks in advance.

    Hi DandyBaron,

    ·         You are not able to access these programs at all, or simply not start menu?

Follow these methods in the order and see if the problem is resolved.

Method 1: Follow the steps and check out them.

    a. open an Admin command prompt window. To open an administrator (high) prompt, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right click Guest and then click Run as administrator.

    b. in the command prompt window, type the following command and press ENTER:

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll

  • Why a shortcut for Microsoft Update doesn't appear in the start menu as it always has in previous installations?

In this latest new installation of Windows XP Pro when I upgraded from Windows Update, Microsoft Update no item does appear in the start menu in previous installations? Can I remove Microsoft Update and then reinstall it? Can I manually install the shortcut? I'm comfortable editing the registry.

Off topic, I know, but you can work some magic for another problem. When I boot, when half of the icons appear in the notification area, I get a message that Windows Firewall is disabled. After the last icons appear, the message disappears and the firewall turns on again. It's annoying, and I'd love to [repair]. Thank you.

Assuming that the message "the Windows Firewall is disabled" comes from the Security Center (Windows), looks like you see what we call a "race condition". Essentially, Security Center is loading before the Windows Firewall was fully charged (may be due to the amount of NAV system resources then uses what he loads and runs his own control over the firewall).

Until the warning goes away in a few minutes, don't worry, you see a normal behavior (for Windows XP).

  • I can't bring up the start menu. I get a message (windows/System 32 is missing or damaged. I don't have a cd

What can I do to bring up the start menu, so I can reinstall windows xp (diskless)

    Hello

This can be done without the Windows XP CD. You need to fix and then you can check out this link:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/307545

For your Windows XP CD, which would have been provided by the PC manufacturer. Sometimes they have a partition on the hard disk that contains the recovery software and can be viewed during the start up. You should check with the manufacturer of PC for more information about the recovery options. Also if they did not provide a CD sometimes they offer the recovery media for sale.

  • The search box in the Start Menu

I typed a word in the search box and results list the files that I was looking for.  But also displayed are backup files I had created in December, copied to my hard drive external and then deleted from my PC.  When I looked in the properties file, it said they were in my user folder. I checked and they were not in the folder of the user, nor that they were in the trash.  I typed the name of one of these files displayed in the results of the search box in the Google Desktop Search with results 0 of this description files.  Windows suddenly developed ESP with these ghost files?

    Hi Chrisana!

No problem. In Vista, choses things are a little different. Your problem is probably caused by the index not updated. The index is updated in the background, so I would check now to see if, in these last days the index has been updated and files of "shadow" will no longer appear. If the problem is not resolved, rebuild your index manually. It is a process in three easy steps.

    1. Open Indexing Options from the control panel or by typing "Indexing Options" in the search box of the start menu.
    2. Click the Advanced button. If you get a UAC prompt on the rise, click to allow.
    3. Click the Refresh button.

Once the reconstruction starts, you can click OK/Cancel out Indexing Options. He finished in the background. Note that this may take some time to complete, I suggest to leave it before leave you for the day or head to bed. Otherwise, your computer may start slow as you try to use it while indexing happens. This is why the reindexing takes place in the background, normally.

    Good luck!

  • Customize the "Programs" list in the start menu which will be held in the way I want

On the Start Menu, under the "All programs" list, I want to be able to organize where shortcuts are stored and how they are organized.  I found out how switch to Classic view and do the old-fashioned way.  That took me so far. To illustrate, I don't want the set of displayed utilities kitchen sink.  This is absurd.  So I created folders that go something like this: Office-graphic tools, security tools, tools of money, Web tools, tools, etc.  Then the first time I put for example, Adobe Reader 8 under Web tools. I put Norton under Tools-security, etc.  This means that I don't have to sort through a Visual equivalent of a pile of linen on the floor to find what I need.  It is logically. (When I was finished, I went back in the menu "Classic start", in the Vista Start menu).  It was working fine.

But that is the problem.  Classics view let me do it once, but now that I've updated programs, like I did just for Adobe Reader 9, he puts the shortcut at the top of the list, and he won't let me not drag in the folder I want, or customize any other way.  (Why not?  Users should be able to easily organize their own computer screen. For me, customization is not just by clicking on a list about whether or not he should display something. "It is to logically organize the way you want).  When I return to the classic menu, it does not show the Adobe Reader 9, or some of the other utilties that have been added to the list of programs and to show up when I go to "All programs" but are not where when I return to the option of classic menu-customize-Advanced to customize folders.

Please advise me on how to customize the display, ideally in the version of Vista's Start Menu, instead of having to go back to the classic view, which now does not display the new shortcuts.  Thank you.

    Hi ibydesign,

I know what you mean. Everyone has their own way of organizing and you should be able to logically group things where you want. Whose computer is anyway? There IS a way to organize your own stuff in Vista. If you right click on the button to start, then click on explore all users, it will open Windows Explorer in the (hidden) program data folder. Under Microsoft\Windows\Start Démarrer\Programmes you should see all the files and programs that you want to work with.

  • Start Menu problem - another file opens when I select a file to open in the start menu

    original title: Start Menu problem

I use windows Vista Home Edition.  The start menu is in Vista Mode.  When I select a file the third file above that that I select opens.  In classic mode, it works fine.  How can I fix it?

    Hello

Try the methods provided below and see if they help to resolve the issue.

    Method 1:

This looks like a problem with Windows Aero, I would say that you update the card drivers video from the manufacturer's website and check if that helps.

  • Photos in the Start Menu is more pointing to the right folder

I moved my folder on an external hard drive.
The icon and all images are on this drive, but now the ability to achieve in my Start menu disappeared.
In addition, under the Windows Explorer (do they call it that in Vista?) the icon is missing under my user name.
You know... There is my computer, then my name of user, then under that is, Documents, music, photos, etc..
    Well, the image is missing.
Thus, the properties of images in the Start Menu is empty.
I have the icon in Windows Explorer with it to the external hard drive and even with the start menu.

Manually move you the folder images on the external drive without leaving a copy of it to its original location?  If so, this is why he does not appear.  Bring it back to its original location (it should ask all of your shortcuts to reappear), then create a new folder on the external drive and name images.  Follow the steps below to change the location of your pictures folder.

Click on the round to Start
Photosdo a right-click and select properties of
    Go to the tab locations
    Click on the move button
Add the path to the folder on the external hard drive in the folder box
    Click Select folder
    Click OK
    Click Yes

This will move the photos that you have in the current images folder to the new location and change the destination of the pictures shortcuts.  Please let us know if you have any other questions.  Thank you. Shane
