  I'm having the same problem, so I click on 'Properties' for the Sims and changed to 'XP Service pack' or 'Vista' and it worked OK, until the game started to freeze every 5 seconds.

  Then I went to a forum of Sims and someone said that the graphics card may be overheating, and you must use the "force-sync" or something. I don't believe, but because I have a Nvidia GForce with dedicated 2 GB memory and a processor 2.4 and I'm still having hard.

  I think it's Windows 8 and of course Microsoft does not care, I read the answer they sent you, "sorry to hear that you do not have Windows 8. What a joke!

  If figure you it out, please let me know because manufacturers are not any help!

  A few questions.  This error only happens with KB958830 or with others?  What language is run on the PC?

  If you are comfortable with the registry editor, then look to see if this key exists:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

  Mistral is a TrueType font and was readily available in all editions of Thunderbird before the current version: 38.0.1.
  Of course the technicians who designed this update have changed something in the program so that TrueType fonts are no longer available. I need to use the Mistral. Parameters of the italics and the other options available in Thunderbird 38.0.1 are not acceptable.

  You have successfully updated your hardware drivers (video, sound, etc...)?  If this is not the case, make sure that you do this.  You can do a right click on the game .exe file set the compatibility mode on an earlier version of Windows and right-click on it and select run as administrator.
  If these elements do not help then you can use the event viewer and see if an error is generated.  If so, post what is the error so we can address the issue.

  I know that with AVG, you must visit the AVG site to install an uninstall program to remove the program... seems absurd, I know, but that's what's happening with AVG... I don't know if something similar should be done with Norton... but you should be able to disable it... right click that the Norton icon in the tray and you should see options, which will be disable IT are other ways, I don't know, but I haven't used Norton.
