Why Yahoo is now the default Firefox search engine?

I'm curious to know why Mozilla decided to move the engine of Firefox default to Yahoo search, without initially to provide an explanation to users. Specifically, how does this change benefits users? »

Hello ariel, please fill in this question. the reasons to change the default search provider in firefox are explained in https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/19/promoting-choice-and-innovation-on-the-web/

  • by default Firefox search engine

Hello, I have problems with my default firefox engine. I know how to change my default engine. I have change to Google as my default search engine in the browser bar. But every time when I restart the firefox, the default engine is automatically changed to 'firefox search engine' and using Yahoo to find things. This phenomenon has happened all of a sudden one day, and then continue to occur daily. I would like to know if there are solutions? Or I need to download Google Chrome to resolve it?

It's fun to try other browsers. But even Google Chrome is infected by pirates of research from time to time. You will see on their forums when users install free software bundles containing options unworthy of trust.

Since there is no 'Firefox search engine', it is certainly suspicious. Here's my method to track down and clean the bad Add - ons and other hijackers. I know it seems long, but it's really not that bad.

    (For Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10;) XP is a little different)

    (1) open the Control Panel, uninstall a program. After the loading of the list, click on the column heading "installed on" to group infections, I mean additions by date. This can help the undisclosed items bundle smoker who snuck out with some software, you have agreed to install. Beware of everything that you don't recognize / remember, since malware often uses sounding names important or innocent to discourage you remove. Out as much garbage as possible here.

    (2) open Firefox page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
    • in the Windows "Run" dialog box, type or paste
      firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click on Plugins. Set essential and unrecognized plugins 'never enable '.

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, in case of doubt, disable (or delete, if possible) not recognized and unwanted extensions. All extensions are optional; the troublemaker is perhaps not obvious from the name.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Any improvement?

    (3) you can search the rest of problems with scanning/cleaning tools listed in our technical support article: Troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware. These scanners on request are free and take a long time to run. If they end quickly, especially if they require the payment you have a serious infection. I suggest the specialty forums listed in the article in this case.

At this point, Firefox keeps your default settings between sessions? If this is not... a little more to think about.

  • Cannot change the default to search engine address bar

Whenever I have try to search using the address bar firefox search in youtube. I tried to go to about: config to reset keyword.url but keyword.url is not yet listed in the list of config. I tried manually in a keyword.url preference but that does not change.

Change for Firefox 23, the keyword feature. Pref URL has been removed. The search box now controls the search engine that is used in the address bar.

    This restores this preference.

In addition, your Firefox is identified at the forum as version 38. An update is available: this article describes how to get 49 Firefox using the "About Firefox" dialog in the menu help: Firefox update to the latest version.

If something is holding you upgrade to Firefox 49 (or if you use the ESR, Firefox 45esr series), please let us know if we can offer you solutions or workarounds. Version 38 is not safe; Mozilla reveals security flaws after each new version.

Sometimes Firefox reports the wrong version, because this information was frozen in a preferences file. If the troubleshooting information page shows Firefox 49.0.2, you may need to clear this incorrect information. See:

  • Installed a theme that did not work, now the default theme is bad too!

I tried "Modern tool for XP icons", but did not notice the part "for XP" until after I installed it, so I took off and I went back to the default value. Unfortunately, now the default theme will show all of the colors; It's just white symbols on the bottom. Even the protected part of the URL bar is a few shades of gray. What can I do to retrieve the value by default as it should?

You can try to backup the list extensions via Firefox help (Alt + H) > troubleshooting information > copy to the Clipboard.

In almost all cases, abandoned extensions would already have either a better alternative or fork the best maintained. You can try to search using common words or variants via Firefox Tools (Alt + T) > modules top-right or @ AMOsearch box. For themes, also try Personas for Firefox.

  • Why does Mozilla have no options of search engine on my computer?

I recently had to install Chrome on my computer to access a program that would not open using Firefox. Then I had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Now there is no search engine options. In the Options window, no names appear in the drop-down list to select a search engine. Restore the default engine does nothing. In the search bar of Firefox, nothing happens when I click on the arrow next to the search icon - no names, no nothing and when I have something to search for, enter by pressing enter, and by clicking on the arrow to go to the search box doesn't do anything. What is missing?

  • I have more pre-loaded included firefox search engine, where can I go to download add-ons?

Have some difficulty in computer science. After some corrections, I couldn't connect to the internet through Firefox. Found the problem and corrected, but not before the reset my firefox as a possible solution. Now, Miss me the included search engines preloaded. In the window "Manage search engines", I have more preloaded search engines. I can download one as an add-on, but I don't want to fish through all the different out there. I want to just research that Firefox has preloaded. Is there a way to re-download and install these search providers to the toolbar without remove it, and then reinstall Firefox? Can I be sent the links for these specific modules "which must be preloaded" to add them manually?

You still have the default search engines xml files in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder?

    • (32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    • (Windows 64 bit) C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

You can find the latest version of Firefox in all languages and for all systems operating here:

If they are there, then delete the search.json file and a possible search.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • How can I remove the selection of search engines to the search bar as you type?

Since the last update when I type in the search field, all the possible search engines are visible, and it's very confusing use now. It is also a double feature as I see that the selection of search engine is still available next to the search icon.

Is there a way to disable the display of all the search engines available in the results 'search as you type "?

    Running Ubuntu.

Please, do not react with an antibot question or answer, the only goal, is that I see if it's possible or not until you switch to another browser. Seems more recent updates to firefox are based mainly on the subjective views of individuals rather than on the wishes of the user. Such a shame for that one good browser.

Best regards and thanks in advance.

You can find research tab to change search engines in Options/preferences between the tabs and content in the current version.

  • How to remove the default Firefox 38.0.1 yahoo search (Macintosh)

How can I remove the automatic reset of Firefox for the terrible yahoo search engine? I want Google as default search engine. Here's what I've tried:
    a. choose Google over yahoo and then remove the yahoo of preferences: Firefox always springs back to yahoo.
    b. download the app 'Google by default'. It worked on previous versions of Firefox, before V 38.0.1. But it seems that the commercial interests behind now bypassed Firefox that, as well, because that 'Default Google' application now no longer works.
    c. erasing and then re - install the "Google by default" application. No improvement.

If there is no way to deal with this, so I'm dumping FF and switch to Google Chrome.

Hello, I am wary of some of your extensions, please Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
