WiFi, signal excellent, no interference but intermittently drops, needs to restart

I have two desktops running on my home wifi system, one is one HP, the other a Dell.

The HP is the closer to the top and has full signal strength bars, the Dell is rained off and half bars. I used the wifi inSSIDer monitoring program to check that I'm using a wifi channel that has all the other competing strong signals on it.  I changed wifi channels anyway to see if the problem changes and it does not work

The problem: from time to time, as often as once a day, the HP will lose wifi. If I wait a very long time (30 minutes or more), it will return itself. I normally reboot to get it back as soon as possible. It always returns with a restart, and once rebooted I'm good to go until the next day.

This loss of wifi only occurs on the HP, Dell has no difficulty on the network even if one gets a much weaker signal. At the same time, the ch has been the only WiFi (until I'm the Dell) and it had this problem all along.

Is there some setting wifi on the HP that could be causing this intermittancy? Is there some wifi setting that could find the signal immediately without having to reboot. Using "solve problems" (right click on the wifi icon) can not find the signal. Happens about once a day (not at a given time of the day) I saw with it, but it's annoying.

Hello

You can buy a WIFI card for replacement on eBAY for less than $10.  Could you say something, about the performance and reliability of the card.

I suggest get back you to the original HP driver.  If this does not help the problem then replace the WIFI card.

The part number you posted of HP, HP p/n 638403-001, is for the 5390 RT and not a 6390.  You should correct your information to avoid confusion.

  • Signal strong wifi X220t Centrino Advanced-N, intermittently, dropping internet

My problem is different from those who have difficulties to internet connection in tablet mode.

Maintain a continuous and strong/full wifi signal, I lose internet access intermittently.  It makes no difference if the unit is used in laptop mode or tablet. If I reset the wireless adapter, I stay connected to the internet for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour or two.  The wireless signal is always at full power, and the distance between the router makes no difference.  Sometimes the Internet returns and plunges again, however, I usually run the Troubleshoot utility to reset the connection.  Diagnostic/troubleshooting of windows running resets the adapter and returns the message: "the connection between your access point, router and Internet is broken" and "the default gateway is not available", but only temporarily solve the problem.  We have two other laptops in the household who are unaware of connection difficulties.

So far I reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site and have set power options for maximum performance for the wireless adapter.  This is a brand new unit used for a few days and has had the problem since I have it unboxed.

Resolved - seems to have been a problem with my router, which unfortunately is a model of Netgear wireless-N - ish.  Switched on to another router and it seems to work fine now.

  • Excellent strengh of WiFi signal but no internet access

I have a toshiba laptop with built-in adapter, adapter works fine with any other wireless networks that I connected without any problems at least 5 or 6.

I have recently implemented a new network with new aol wireless router, a thompson speedtouch. The network is working properly and shows full signal strengh and connectivity, but I'm unable to access the internet.

Other mobile home access the network perfectly, even if mine is the only laptop with Sp2! Is this a problem?
I know very little technical jargon and saw hundreds of messages on google and this site, but none were of no help. I've done many things, but all seem to lead to ip/config - what happens with the error message - media disconnected and a timeout message and something about dhcp?

Another path leads me to the "repair of the ' cannot complete this task and stop saying:"cannot renew ip address"." I downloaded the updates of microsoft for SP2, tried to update the driver for the card but tells me I have the latest firmware. Am completely stuck, reading around is not an uncommon problem, common but responses are not seeming to help me.

Anyone with any help whatsoever would be amazing!

    Hello

I also read on the net that sometimes if SP2 has been installed it of not possible to access the internet via WiFi network.
AFAIK the SP2 installed and activated the firewall. Therefore, you should check if the firewall is disabled.
In addition, the update of the driver may solve your problem.
Check your WLan card driver version and if necessary, download and install a new one.

The other possibility is that you have enabled filtering router's MAC address. Please check this box.

Here's a tip for the user on the problems of Wi - Fi. Suggest from the top and bottom. Maybe one of them will help you.

    (1) restart you device.

    (2) resetting the network settings: settings > general > reset > reset network settings. Join the network again.

    (3) reboot router/Modem: unplug power for 2 minutes and reconnect. Update the Firmware on the router (support Web site of the manufacturer for a new FW check). Also try different bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and different bandwidths (recommended for 2.4 to 20 MHz bandwidth). Channels 1, 6 or 11 are recommended for 2.4 band.

    (4) change of Google DNS: settings > Wi - Fi > click the network, delete all the numbers under DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 or otherwise 8.8.4.4

    (5) disable the prioritization of device on the router if this feature is available. Also turn off all apps to VPN and retest the Wi - Fi.

    (6) determine if other wireless network devices work well (other iOS devices, Mac, PC).

    (7) try the device on another network, i.e., neighbors, the public coffee house, etc.

    (8) backup and restore the device using iTunes. Try to restore as New first and test it. If ok try to restore the backup (the backup may be corrupted).

    (9) go to the Apple store for the evaluation of the material. The Wi - Fi chip or the antenna could be faulty.

  • WiFi signal but no internet connection

I'm at a University in Tianjin, China and having a laptop with Windows 8 Ansus. I have a wifi router and a cable and had internet connection in this place in the past. I have reset the modem to create my network and password.

I see my network identified by the computer but it says 'Limited', and there is no internet connection. I'm sure it's not not to do with the settings on my computer, and I had someone else to confirm. I have a connection when I go into a classroom and find their signal.

What could cause the problem? How can you have a wifi signal but no internet? I invited people to ask the technicians at the school, but nothing has changed. Would it be a they forgot to press the button or something? There is no internet to the block of flats I live but the other parts of the school have.

    Just trying to understand.

    Stephen Hoare-Vance.

    Greetings

The technician of the College gave us a different IP address for the connection. I guess that our block has a separate IP address of other blocks. Apparently the number after the third point is variable; a number any scope is ok. I couldn't communicate avec.115 but can avec.98

I don't know why they changed, but the problem is solved, thank you.

I also learned that when the router is enabled it will connect to the computer and display a signal, even if there is no connection to the internet.

  • Intermittent drop WiFi: WiFi has been declining since the upgrade to Win 10

Currently have recent windows 10 version 10586.11 running on the HP Pavilion DV6T-7000qe. Has wifi connectivity problems since then with the drops or slow internet. No other device having problems, just this laptop. Running sfc scannow and everything is fine. HP supprto has more drivers to win 10, which suggests that microsoft is now offering the latest drivers to win 10. It is these drivers I think that my problems are the cause.

I have already had no problem WiFi with win 7, or before winning 10 started downloading the new drivers automatically. It's frustrating as I like winning 10 so far.

Should I go directly to Intel for my network card for Centrino N-2230 card driver?  Please advise, thank you.

    Hello:

Intel doesn't have a W10 driver for the 2230.  You can try the W8.1 driver.

The 2nd on the list is for the 64 bit OS.

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/download/25511/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-software-for-Windows-8-1-

What you can do to prevent the installation of drivers that are ruining your PC W10 is hide updates using this tool.

Download and instructions on the link below.

Updated skin is permanent, unless you run the tool again and uncheck the hide option.

    Hi @prashanthchintu,

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a great site to find tips, suggestions, information, and what has helped other people.

I understand that you have problems with your Wi - Fi connection. Please try these steps in a post by @Grand-tree Deku.

Here is a list of steps that solve common problems with wireless connectivity.

First of all, we have a step by step guide to guide you through the process of diagnosis here:
Troubleshooting your wireless network and Internet access

A second option is to try the following steps:
    Powercycle the network:
    1. turn off your laptop.
    2. unplug the power to your router.
    3. disconnect the power to your modem.
    4. wait at least 45 seconds.
5 reconnect the modem and wait for it to come back online.
6 plug in the router and wait for it to come back online.
    7. turn on your laptop and test your connection.

Turn off the power to the adapter:
    1. open Device Manager. (Win Key + R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
    2. expand the network adapters.
    3. right click on the Ethernet adapter / wireless, and then click Properties.
    4. click on the power management tab.
5 remove the check mark next to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    6. click on OK.
    7 test cycle.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without the quotes and press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

It can also help to reset the winsock catalog:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes, and then press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

    Reinstall the NIC drivers:
    1. download the drivers from here , but do not run them again.
    2. go to your Start menu/screen and type Device Manager.
    3. expand network adapters.
    4. right click on the wireless adapter and choose uninstall.
5 install the drivers downloaded in step 1.
    6. restart your PC and test.

    Test an ethernet connection:
Explicit. Test if the problem persists on a wired connection to the adapter hardware troubleshooting wireless can be directed to the appropriate areas.

    Test another connection:
Many people excluded their home network as a problem if another device working on the same network. Networking is not as simple as that. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to exclude the settings for this device until the laptop has been tested on another network.

If these steps do not resolve the problem, try this document published by Microsoft for network management issues: wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the drop-down list in the upper right of the document.

Please let me know if this helped.

  • Weak WIFI signal

Hi, am currently using an HP Pavilion 2307tx g6 but get really weak wifi signal in my room. Only able to get about 2-3 bars every time while my other laptop can go up to full bars.

Any help/solution would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the HP Forum, Rascal.

Discussion on the theme of the power of the Signal

Buffaloes by themselves may be a little empty of meaning, UNLESS you can interpret the definition of what each 'bar' says.

Signals are affected by the type of router you have - routers are NOT equal.

    • The cheapest router can not not the support required for the performance of your computer's wireless card.

Example: An older router that only supports 802.11 g will not provide faster than 54Mbps - even if you have the best card you can buy in your computer.

    • The opposite can be true as well - a good router cannot provide a better service than the computer's wireless can support.

Example: If the card in your computer is 802.11 g, so even if you have a router capable of speeds of more than 300 Mbps, you can get only 54 Mbps.

Speed and autonomy are limited by the link in the chain.

    • 802.11n is faster than the 'g', but it can also be slowed by the walls, the furniture in metal and other obstructions.
    • Move your equipment, even a few inches, could make the difference to a router 802.11 g

    AND

    • The same might be true for a 802.11n router that has a small antenna (low power)
    • Antennas in routers are NOT equal.  Small antennas in routers fantasies can still match a whimpy router.  You want a router with a 5db antenna 7db (or better if they make these by the time you read this).

Assuming you bought the biggest, baddest, best wireless available for your computer, then you may need to upgrade your router.

    Strength vs. Signal bars

Bars can indicate how things are moving along, or they can cloud the issue - depends on the "bars": which generates the bars, the sensitivity are the bars and you can do a lot in a bar anyway?

You can use another measure: the traction measured in percentages, detection and Signal type:

WirelessNetView v1.50 - wireless network monitoring tool

WirelessNetView works on Windows 7 and Windows 8 - there are a few problems with XP: read reviews of the author.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try to update / reinstall your Wireless driver.  Help - can be a waste of time.  If you have already done, this new fact will not help - so I don't recommend it.

  • How a microwave oven interferes with the WIFI signal?

    MICRO-WIFI INTERFERENCE

Please explain THAT HOW A MICROWAVE actually INTERFERES with the laptop WIFI signal...  How to turn off the oven microwave takes the PC adapter, for example?  When the microwave oven is off and don't use it, should also be disconnected? In the equipped cafes in WIFI, are microwave ovens, degrading the quality of the signal?

I thank very you much for your comments.
    Joe

This is caused by the fact that both microwave and most wifi routers operate at a frequency of 2.4 Ghz, there is a setting on some wifi routers that allow you to operate at 5 GHz, but this frequency moves not by walls well, insofar as they interfere, the microwave should not disseminate its frequency outside the oven microwave and most of the routers wifi broadcast in all the directions, radio waves can bounce off the walls and envelope the room and other areas as well, this isn't a line of site, so unless you have your computer very close to the microwave you should not receive any interference at all. or course, if you stick the router inside the microwave.

    Hope this helps,
    -Ray
  • BlackBerry blackBerry 10 classic. wifi signal level.

As you know, the power of the wifi signal is indicated in the corner of our blackberry... As I changed to the classic BlackBerry, this indication does not well. In spite of having conexion wifi excellent as indicated by my computer, classic BlackBerry indicates low conexion. When restart blackberry, indicator works fine, but I have to rebbot whenever I change the connection wireless.

    Any idea?

I solved this problem by charging new updated software.

  • I have a perfect wifi signal, so that's why my youtube so slow to buffer video?

I have an excellent wifi signal.full bars.so my question is why youtube stops and departure for the buffering so at night.it takes 2 hours to watch a 1 hour video lol

I use the wifi tether app on my htc evo. IM attached to my pc. This is whence my wifi. I probably just I need the signal booster.

Perhaps, but I think you'll find that "mobile Internet" (vs a real WiFi connection) won't ever consistent or reliable enough for "streaming" videos or music on your computer downloads. Ditto for the Windows Update/automatic updates.

.. .unless you are outside or right by a window AND a block or two) AND within the Visual acuity of a mobile Tower or antenna.

  • Airport express to extend my wifi signal

I bought and set up the Airport express to extend a wifi signal in my house. I do not have an airport extreme as a base station - I thought I could use the express to extend the signal from my router/modem from verizon. Is this possible?

Turned it "on" now, I don't see the express network as an option in my combo network - so assuming that it will seek to expand, what's the problem with it only shows not not in the drop-down list?

The AirPort Express only wireless may extend over a network that is provided by another router from Apple.  As such, it cannot extend wireless signal router left 3rd.

Another way of saying the same thing, it's that if you want to extend wireless network using a router from Apple, you will need two routers Apple.

If you can connect the AirPort Express Terminal to your main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, permanent, then the Express can be configured to provide additional coverage of wireless signal in this way.

  • What can I do to make my wifi signal is getting better?

What can I do to make my better wifi signal?

The distance is the problem more obvious - there is a certain optimal range that the wireless signal can travel. If the network is covering an area larger than the router is able to transmit, or if there is a lot of corners for everyone and walls to penetrate, performance will take a hit. Interference is also a big problem, especially for those living in densely populated areas. Signals from other wireless networks and electronics can impact speeds, that can the physical obstacles, such as walls.

You can always look at your router administrator interface to see how many devices are connected. Or use a network Analyzer to see if you have unknown machines on your network. If it is a network that is open, close it. Configure security - preference WPA2, WEP is not as strong and put in a password that is difficult for others to guess.
