  • Aurora R4, 8.1, NVIDIA GTX 690, UEFI, Secure Boot Windows

I have an Aurora R4 that came with a NVIDIA GTX 690.  When Dell will release a video for the GTX 690 ROM update so that Secure Boot works under Windows 8 and Windows 8.1?  ASUS, EVGA and several other vendors of this map published a videocard ROM updates already that allow this work.

It's been a year since it became a problem with Windows 8, and now Windows 8.1 he remarked with a watermark on the screen that says: "secure boot is not configured correctly.

The video card shows a subprovider from NVIDIA, but NVIDIA does not seem to make these updates available ROM, as it is to the card suppliers like Dell to do.

Today, Dell replaced my NVIDIA GTX-690, as well as my motherboard and memory under warranty (wouldn't boot after the home screen Alienware - F2, F12 did nothing).

Now I am finally able to activate Secure Boot, like the GTX-690, they sent has a compatible UEFI BIOS, whereas one that I got with my new Aurora-R4 does not.

For reference, the new NVIDIA GTX-690 has the video BIOS version: 80.04.1E.00.1F.  And work with Secure Boot.

  • Can't get running dual boot Linux (Fedora) and Win8.1 in UEFI Duo 11 & secure boot mode

    Hello people,

last year, I bought a 11 (Intel i5, 1.8 MHz, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD) Duo with Win8 (64-bit) installed in secure boot mode. December 2013 I updated the OS 8.1 with a new license and curled UEFI & secure mode active, a few days after I installed Fedora 20 64-bit.

Installing linux running properly, but I don't get any what startup, or UEFI GRUB menu and only earn 8.1 starts automatically. I checked the EFI partition: all files are installed in the appropriate directories.

Can someone help me get the dual boot running?

    Thanks in advance

    Michael Wachs

    Hello again,
Mission accomplished, I have a dual boot win8/fedora20.

Well, it was much more difficult than expected.

First of all, thanks to this guy, it's a bit more clearly how noncompliant efi bios on vaio actually works:

so, let's keep in mind that the start process seems to:
Look in /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi; If present, it starts.
Search in all subdirectories of /EFI/ for grubx64.efi. If present, it starts.
    Start /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi
Displays an error such as "The OS not found" message.

Now, that's how I managed to do so, please note that:

    • It's more a hack here-I-fixed-it rather than a clean solution, but it works
    • There is probably a more easy/better way to do
    • a step may be unnecessary (I will say that when I suspect, but I will definitely not return to test)
    • I'm Italian and my English is awkward

    (1) enter the bios settings, select the boot from cd/dvd and disable secure boot (this may be unnecessary and can be re-enabled at the end of the process, I don't really know at the moment)

    (2) use the Fedora dvd installation (NOT 'live' one since you will need the feature of 'rescue') (Finally, you can use a direct to start and then go up and chroot for installed partitions, but it is longer)

    (3) save the system installed, this should mean pressing enter three times and ending up in a shell

    (4) if all goes well, run:

    chroot /mnt/sysimage

    (5) go to/boot/efi/EFI and follow these steps

    mv Boot Boot.old
    mv fedora Boot
    cp Boot/grubx64.efi Boot/bootx64.efi
    mv Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi

Now, this way our graceful bios not compliant will not find Microsoft file and will head to Boot/boot64.efi (fedora one). Unfortunately, grub scripts does not detect windows, so we need to manually add Windows entry in grub conf.

    (6) take note of the UID of the EFI partition:

    grep /boot/efi /etc/fstab

(Well Yes, there are safer ways)

    (7) edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom and add this:

    menuentry "Windows 8" {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    insmod search_fs_uuid
    insmod chain
    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root A609-3B1E
    chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi
    }

    (8) now we will (re) making our new config (in our new location):

    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/grub.cfg

I fear that this step will be necessary whenever there is an update to the kernel

    9) restart with fingers crossed

Oh, I currently have a working dual boot windows 8 / 20 on my vaio fedora.

My biggest fear this time, it's some obscure windows update could restore the original Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi. Finally, I could rename it again, still, it would be boring. We'll see.

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

  • Microsoft will work on which allows us to make changes on the common equipment and reconfigure the secure boot?

    Hello

I like the idea of starting secure if it can help keep your system root kit virus cleaning.

I don't like the fact that I can't do a simple upgrade of my hardware (SSD in my case) and turn on secure boot.

I don't understand upgrades material correctly is a trade out of security?

Are there any plans to allow the user to upgrade the hardware and have secure boot?

  • HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 532 s: 'Secure Boot Configuration' not found?

Hello support, I wanted to disable startup secure for my office.
I have a pavilion Elite HPE - 532 s Bios 7.15 I followed the step of many posts, but I don't have it under the heading "security"?
    I am on window 10 64-bit UEFI.
I wanted to disable, because I have a new GTX 960 graphics card and it stuck on the HP logo at startup all the time when I use the new card. !!

I tried to disable the security slot, but no matter what I do I get a black screen for my card both old and new so I have to reset the bios settings.
    Help me please.

    Thanks for the additional information.

    Here is my diagnosis/notice:

I don't think you'll be able to get the GTX 960 to work with this system.

Why it won't work in the UEFI/GPT:

It will not work in the UEFI [I think] 960 GTX is one card of UEFI and you must disable secure boot to make it work. Your BIOS is only "UEFI compatible" originally planned for Windows 7 [which does not support secure boot]. If you are unable to disable the secure startup, you can not use this card.

Why it won't work in legacy/MBR:

It won't work in legacy because it's a single card of UEFI.

    My suggestion:

Return to the legacy/MBR and use a graphics card that has a dual BIOS BIOS/hybrid or one who supports in particular the Legacy BIOS as described in one of my previous posts.

    Some other things to consider:

You PSU has enough power for this card? I think it takes a minimum of 400W PSU.

You connect the auxiliary power connector?

Have you tried to disable "Intergrated Graphics" in the BIOS [as appropriate]

  • How to mount SD card in secure boot mode

I have a problem with my Imac where I can start only in secure boot mode. The problem is that in safe safe mode SD card not only mount. I need the contents of the SD card. How can I manually force the SD card to get?

There are some things that don't work in Mode without failure.

See note in the article here, try safe mode if your Mac does not commissioning - Apple support.

    More specifically,.

For example, these features do not work in safe mode:

    • You can not play movies in the DVD player.
    • You cannot capture video in iMovie and some other video applications.
    • An input audio or output devices may not work.
    • Some devices USB, FireWire, and Thunderbolt is not available.
    • Wi - Fi networks may be limited or unavailable depending on the Mac and OS X versions you are using.

If your Mac starts in Mode safe, but not normally, it is probably because you have installed a third-party software that prevents the normal start upward. If you remove this software when you're booted without failure, you should be able to start normally. Some common software that will always give you problems: everything that is supposed to clean, optimize, protect, purge, control or maintain if your Mac.

  • MacBook (running 10.6.8) works only in the secure boot? What's wrong?

I woke up my MacBook to mode 'sleep' when I suddenly had a kernel panic.

After stopping and restarting my regular boot of the computer, the MacBook will run after the gray apple screen.

but after that, it hangs on a gray white screen and refuses to go to the login window.

However, on a secure boot, the MacBook starts as it normally should.

I managed to restore my MacBook 10.6.3 and after that, he started on a regular boot,

but after using the built-in software update upgrade to Mac 10.6.8 the same problem comes back.

My Macbook will start only at startup, once again.

    I tried:
    -MSC reset

    -Reset the PRAM

-Try to use disk utility, but the button "Repair disk" grayed out.

Is there a solution to this problem?

When you tried to use the disk utility to repair the disk, you start from the DVD, or did you get this to run in OS X?

  • How to upgrade the graphics card (gtx 770 or 980) on Mac Pro 3.1 (2008)?

    Hey,.

I am looking to update my graphics card on my Mac Pro 3.1 - I currently have a GTX 660ti but I was looking to upgrade to a GTX 770 or, if possible GTX980.

    I have a few questions (GTX 770):

    • Power required: I found a tutorial , but I'm still not sure if the GTX 770 will draw too much power from the PSU?  The TDU is 230w and there are a lot of online chat on do not go above 225w.  I also noticed that my mac pro 3.1 is about 980w - so I'm confused as to why the limit of 225w has been mentioned (something to do with the power being driven by pci slots?)
    • Wiring: The gtx 770 has 1 x 6 pin and 1 x 8-pin connectors.  What/how should I connect to these terminals?  The tutorial mentions buying a Y 2 x 6-pin connector.  Is anyone able to confirm this?
    • Experience: Are confirmed cases of the GTX 770 works on a mac pro 3.1?

Finally - I wonder about a 770GTX since I.  What is the best card (for games) that confirmed cases of work with the 2008 3.1 mac pro?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

The location PCle supplies 75 watts max. Each of the two connectors on the system board each supply 75 watts max.

So, you can get 225 watts which for me is pretty close to 230 watts.

Others have successfully used the 770

  • Impossible to activate Secure boot of windows 8

Hi, I can't get a secure start to activate on my computer, the option is grayed out in the bios

    Hi Jcwisgod,

That's right, that a secure boot does not load the usb drivers, then connect a usb keyboard, when using secure boot will not work.   I don't know if you can activate the loading of traditional USB drivers and still have secure startup, you should test.

If you can enable loading the usb and secure boot drivers would let me know for future reference.

    Hello world

I have a folio elitebook - 9470 m HP and today I went into the BIOS (F10), and then I went to 'Security' and and here, I performed a 'secure erase'-> 'Notebook Hard Drive' because I wanted to clean the SSD to install Windows 7 instead of pre-installed Windows 8. After a reboot, I get the error message: "can't find any bootable image, notebook will be stop.

OK, here's the solution I got from HP support:

Go to the BIOS Setup F10, select System Setup, disable "Secure Boot", then select "Legacy", as "Startup Option. Save and restart, now you are able to boot from a bootable Usb key.

  • V3 - 771g S8 i7. V2.28 BIOS how to disable secure boot mode and allow to boot from usb/dvd

    Hi people,

Recently my laptop w8 shared with my brother get sick. So I decided to get out the trusty old diagnosis

USB and dvd, you know, ubcd centos ophrack. Much to my dismay, I couldn't start any of them. So after some faffing

everything on the net, I was able to boot/secure boot / disabled, which meant I could f12 at startup in the Boot Manager.

Unfortunately, the drama is over. Kindly listed boot manager internal hard drive, but not bootable usb or dvd connected.  so I thought, I'm going to be cunning and change the boot order of start. Yet once the monster of Bios Acer jeeringly laughed at my attempts to

take control of the material, I dared try control simply because I happened to pay a substantial amount of money to acer.

So, it seems, the only option I have left to change is boot/boot mode / (boot uefi/legacy). So what I need to change to restore the boot control, is to change legacy BIOS uefi? Who will install the w8 cack?

Also what happens if I want to replace the hard drive with an ssd in the near future, is not not to work?

Oh, I tried to get help from the enamel of acer, their response said essentially bios/uefi is isn't a problem acer because it is sw and realized

What seemed like a pay per minute service.

    Skills of good customer Acer.

    (d) what anti-virus software is installed on your computer?

I suggest you try the steps below and check if it helps

    Method 1:

If you have installed a security software on the computer, then I suggest you to temporarily disable a software antivirus installed on the computer and check if the same problem occurs

Note: Please make sure that you activate the software of Antivirus\Firewall after the test to keep your computer protected.

And my question is this problem aside GPU or monitor? I use DP connetion added to my dell.

Nevermind, nvidia has responded to my support ticket...

«I have discussed this issue with development and after some research on the specification of what is expected due to the limitation HW.» The 2560x1440@144Hz of resolution would require a 586 Mhz pixel clock. Max GeForce GTX 770 pixel clock is 540 Mhz. You will need a 980 GPU GTX class, which has a higher pixel clock in order to support the 2560x1440@144hz resolution. • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 770 on a Dell Inspiron years 620

    Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron of the 620 years and my question is this: can I put a Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 in my PC?

    Thank you.

You had already posted the R9 280 X and I said that these cards full size do not fit in the 620 years.  The best card you can get for this system is the low profile Sapphire HD 7750 shown here if you can still find available.  If you are looking for a high-end gaming card, you will need to buy a new computer, because high-end gaming cards simply do not match your case.  If you want cards like the GTX 770 or R9 280 X, I suggest you build your own computer.

  • Winows 8 and Secure Boot

I have the following machine: model m9600t, KX745AV-ABA product number. I am running Windows 7 without problem. I want to update now for Windows 8, but through a compatibility check, he said that the system will not support Secure Boot. As I understand it, it's because the hardware do not support UEFI. Is this correct and if so are there plans to release of updates for the necessary system components for machines like mine? Thank you.

I am trying to explain that to the best of my knowledge. The SIZE of the BIOS must be more in support of UEFI. The system BIOS your motherboard is not able to support UEFI and HP will not / can not get out an update of the BIOS for your system BIOS support UEFI.
