Will not be closed, it will restart

A year ago, I installed a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card and a wireless mouse Logitech setpoint for the mouse software.

Since when I try to shut down the computer, it will just restart. I have to hold the power button as he begins to reboot in order to extinguish.

I can say that I have the latest version of the driver for the card

My computer is a HP Pavilion a700n Win XP Home SP3 2 G of RAM

You have had this problem for a year !

1. disable automatic restart:

  • Make a right click my computer, and then click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Click the settings button in the startup and recovery section
  • Uncheck 'automatically restart '.
  • OK your way out

2. the next time you stop, you will get a BSOD.  Report the error completely, without paraphrasing.

3. the latest version of the driver for your video card was released last October, so if you have installed the driver of a year before, you don't have the current version.

  • Open the Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK)
  • If necessary, click on the + sign to the left of "Graphics cards" to show the entry for your GeForce 8400 GS
  • Right-click on the GeForce 8400 GS, and then select Properties
  • Click on the driver tab
  • What is shown to the driver provider, date and version?
  • If necessary, get the driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-260.99-whql-driver.html

4. what model Logitech mouse do you have and which driver is shown for it in Device Manager (see #3 directions)?  What version of setpoint is installed?

Delete the sessionstore.js file possible sessionstore-# .js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Note that deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and tab groups and open and closed (back) tablets to get lost, so you have to create them again.

You can set the integer pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the subject: config page in order to get the about: sessionrestore page immediately with the first reboot after a failure has occurred or the Task Manager was used for the closing of Firefox.

This way to see if a series of sessions has crashed or otherwise did not close correctly and deselects the tabs that you do not want to reopen, but will reopen the other tabs.

Hey well, good news! Before I decided to replace it, I thought that 'let me play with him' and open the computer and tried to get out.  Well, I got all the cancelled screws and plugs disconnected, but I couldn't drag him completely out of the slot, I tried several times without success.  He would slide approximately 1/2 in. and then stop.  So I gave up, he slipped into place, screwed it back in, plugged everything back in and voila, it works!  I don't know what was going on.  There was a strip of clear band they put on the machines when they send their, a thin strip through the logo Dell Isnpiron on top of the drive with a shot to the back corner, maybe the edge of the door that was contagious?  I pulled it off.  No matter what.  It works, thank the Lord.  But out of curiosity, how one removes this player?  I couldn't go out for the life of me.

  • Pavilion dv6-1350us Entertainm: Pavilion dv6-1350 us running Windows 7 will not be closed

Have not used my laptop for the last 45 days and have not installed anything new. W7, 64-bit running. Just used on these days and it will not be closed. When I stopped it just hangs and displays that says: "if it please do not turn off or unplug your machine. Installation of update 1 of 1 ". This can last for hours.

I stop it manually with the power button which of course translates message when I start again that «Windows did not close properly»

I thought that since I had not used the computer laptop or literally turned on for about 45 days, that maybe I was missing a few important Windows updates, but when I go to Windows update via Control Panel and click on Windows Update to search for updates, it "just hangs" it thus, showing never updates available. Last update of the W installed was 26/03/16 and laptop worked OK.

    Any ideas?

I downloaded ccleaner pro (first edition) and scanned the hard drive. I checked 'fix all issues' and it worked! Whatever files or conflicts on the register or wherever was causing the 'hang up' were eliminated obviously that my laptop was able to stop. :-)

  • Message window Explorer to stop working will restart - when closing a program like Photoshop

When a program like photoshop is closed, a message appears that reads Windows Explorer stops working will restart. couple other programs that I nearly said the same message. How can I fix it?

    Hello Carloscastillo_792,

This thread has been created in wrong forum; the Microsoft moderation team has moved this thread to the Windows Vista - performance and Maintenance forum.

  • PC does not stop on command but will restart (XP SP3)

Have acquired a D510(e-pc) that will not stop, but will restart instead. To install a new XP Pro and it will stop in SP2 but when I add SP3 it restarts on the command "shutdown". I followed the usual channels in 'Power Options'-'won't restart after power fail"and"Powerdown after shutdown"to 0 in the registry but nothing seems to cure the problem. I have the correct drivers installed and only AVG in addition to the O/S.I. have a usdt D510 giving none these problems. - HELP.

Thanks to anyone who has seen this post and to confirm that I solved it myself by adding the programs one by one until the problem occurs. The culprit was surprisingly, Intel Application Accelerator which caused no problems on other models of the range D510, but prevents the closure of the D510(e-pc) .

  • Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in a minute. Please save your work not

Original title: I have Windows Vista home basic. Whenever I try to connect to the internet I get the error "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in a minute. Please save your work now' and the computer restarts

This started happening a few days ago. I tried to run the software anti-virus and 3 different registry cleaners and nothing helped. I use a mobile internet USB and when I tried to run safe mode with networking of the device was not recognized.

Does anyone have an idea on how I can fix this?

This is the Win32/Trojan.Shutdowner virus and rootkit causes this error. I think that it is the solution: download and burn the ISO image of kav rescue ofhttp://rescuedisk.kaspersky-labs.com/rescuedisk/updatable/kav_rescue_10.isoon CD. Make a start of full system scan from the disc that you created. Remove infections all found, including this stupid annoying rootkit, and you're done! At least it worked for me!

  • My dvd drive opens at the beginning and will not be closed.

My dvd drive opens at the beginning and will not be closed. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi Showme66,

    A. from when what happens?

    B. what happens when you try to close the drive?

    C. recent changes made on the computer?

    D. the DVD drive opens automatically at startup?

This problem may occur if one of the following scenarios is true:

    • Drivers filter in the CD and the DVD storage stack are not migrated successfully to Windows Vista.
    • You have uninstalled the CD software that fails to withdraw properly in the registry.
    • You have installed software that adds filter drivers in the CD and the storage stack of DVDs that interfere with existing filters.

  • (Redirected) Alienware x 51 will not be closed. Fans and lights still on. Can not enter the BIOS at startup.

    Hello

My Alienware x 51 will not be closed properly. Fan and lights constantly. I need to hold the powerbutton to shut it down.

Its an Alienware X-51-purchased around June 2012.
    GeForce GTX 555
    Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3, 40GHz
    8.00 GB OF RAM
    Windows 7 Home Premium

The problem started when I upgraded my BIOS version A06 to A13 (running A14 now). Now, whenever I turned off my computer, the lights are still up and the fan runs. In order to stop completely, I have to press the "switch" button.

My warranty expired a year ago.

Anyone know how to fix this? I suspect there is something wrong with my motherboard, since I can't even get into the BIOS setup when I start my computer.

Has anyone tried to replace the motherboard? What type of motherboard do need me? Is it possible to buy the "original" Alienware mobo?

I hope someone is able to help. Comments or suggestions are welcome.
