will not install updates of system restore will not be the recovery of the system (no installation cd)

Hello out there!  Bought this machine at a pawn shop, HP seems another good charity that cannot get updates installed and that is all I want to do right now - knowing that I did a restore system first and made a recovery (ithink) cd and I see that a lot of the system drivers are disabled (don't know how do to light and cannot find material to read) that I'm sure is a simple solution for you, but for me - OH MY - thank - you, Vista 32-bit sp2

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/laptop > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for the latest Vista drivers > download/install them.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Update to Windows 7 SP1 installed, but not in installed updates or system

Recently, I installed Windows 7 x 64 Ultimate on my pc and then with the update. All the updates successfully without error. Win7 SP1 update was also without errors. It shows in the history of the update, but not in the installed updates or computer properties. IE11 and Visual Studio will not install because they need SP1. I can't uninstall the update to try again because he's not here but windows update does not offer it (also tried the variant of the command prompt to uninstall does not work). I tried to reinstall the whole system, and it ends up the same thing again. Someone knows how to fix this problem or at least Visual Studio works without SP1?

I had to disable the "User Account Control" (UAC), which allows you to run as administrator in Vista.  After that I turned it off, all 4 of these updates installed and it doesn't require manual installation.   Follow these steps:

In the case of Vista view:

1.) go to start; Control Panel; "User accounts and family safety"; User accounts.
2.) click on 'Enable user account control or disable' (last point on the page)
3.) clear the checkbox "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" and click "OK."
4.) restart the computer, and then run the installation of the system and they work.

If you are in Classic view:

1.) go to start; Control Panel; Security Center
2 screen.) in the "Windows Security Center", go to the last item "User Account Control" and click the button to turn off.

You can also see the security shield in your Start menu.  You can also access the UAC via this.

After that the installation of the system have been updated, make sure that you go back and turn the UAC "" and then restart your computer so that unauthorized updates do not occur.   Always try this turn off if install doesn't work.

  • Do not replace the motherboard, XP installation CD does not start even

First: I am a complete Windows user no, I program and works exclusively with Linux, so I have little experience with issues licenses and the WGA behavior.  This is probably going to be long, and I apologize.

The computer of my mother, about 7 years old with less than 500 MB of memory reported and a 1 GHz AMD x86_64 processor, took too long to do something, and I could hear the beating of disc on almost any operation, so at Christmas, I suggested that she order some upgraded hardware.  I checked with her that she had the original installation media, used by the person who set up your computer, and then we ordered a new combination of mother/CPU card and 4 GB of memory.  The new processor is always x86_64 and has an EIDE interface.  The IDE HDD is the master on the IDE one bus, and the CD/DVD device is the slave.

I followed the instructions to the: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824125

The first thing that happened is that he told me that this installation media is older than the installed operating system, so it would not be able to perform the 'upgrade', only a new resettlement, which clearly, we do not do so because all the data from my mother is on the single partition on this IDE drive it.  Is it because that is not the original installation disc, or it means that something (perhaps a network-downloaded 'service pack'?) changed software installed to the point that the original install CD doesn't know what to do?  If this is the last, means that install CD are useful that as long as no significant changes are made to the system?

So, then, I decided to Exchange material anyway and see what happened.  I removed the old motherboard and put in the new, hung the Ribbon IDE and started.  The machine went into a loop of reboot by which it would ISSUE, begin to read the hard disk, flash may be a bit of a boot image from Windows (a fraction of a second, in fact less than a cycle of vertical refresh complete as part of the screen should be painted before disappearing), then a bluescreen with multiple lines of text appeared for a fraction of a second then it should reboot again.  My father suggested sitting in front of it with a camera and try to photograph the text screen so that we can read, but that seemed likely to end in frustration.

Then, I tried starting the original installation, CD, based on the assumption that I could follow the second set of instructions in this page of Microsoft above and pretend the old motherboard had not experienced a catastrophic without any possibility of preparation failure.  The installation CD, a disc with a holographic surface that is called 'Windows XP Home Edition' and includes the number of '2002' on the face, could not start exactly the same way (the display text could have been different, as both were illegible, but it was about the same amount of text and blinked on the screen in the same a short way until the computer resets).

I thought that maybe the power supply was insufficient for the new machine, so I tested the material with a Linux boot CD, which started perfectly.  Now, the Linux CD was burned in 2008, not in 2002, it has the advantage of having been written with new hardware platforms in mind.

I now swapped the old motherboard, and start-up of the computer again to the old, slow down the behavior.  I told her that I have no way to proceed, and that she would have to take all the pieces to a specialist in Windows to do things again.  I have the opportunity to make another attempt in a week, if anyone can tell me how to do this job.

So, what could I do, or ask him to do, to solve this problem ourselves?  Is it possible to create a CD that can be used to upgrade the old motherboard to the new?  I understand that Windows XP is no longer supported, so I fear that a registered technician may be contractually forbidden to get the job of the computer.  I don't want to put an end to the removal of all of its installed software or lose its settings, bookmarks WWW and so on.

If I do a fresh install of something, I think that perhaps it would be better just to go in a different way.  I could install Linux on the machine, then set up a KVM virtual machine and install Windows XP in this.  No doubt the virtual material presented by KVM is generic enough that the old CD would be happy to install it, and it would give the advantage of being able to point its Windows State control so that she could always relax while problems due to infections by malicious software or a sloppy software upgrade/installation.  However, I don't know the legality of it.  My mom had a Windows XP computer and this procedure would end with always have a Windows XP computer, but I think that this could still be banned.

This is the story.  Thanks for the solutions, or some clarification of misconceptions that I could express my very limited experience with Windows-based.

EDIT: the replacement motherboard is this one: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138195

With more that 3 GB of physical RAM installed may or likely to cause a condition of bluescreen when you try to install or repair Windows XP.  It would be wise to limit the amount of installed RAM 3 GB or 2 GB.

Go to the store and buy an optical drive. They are very expensive. No, you cannot use the optical drive of your laptop. You can possibly create a bootable USB key with a distribution of Linux on it and copy the correct boot hard disk files. I say "may" because not all older computers can boot from a USB device. Look in your BIOS to see if your computer has this capability. If he can:

    http://www.pendrivelinux.com

If you have not backed up your data, then you have trouble. While you're at the store also buy an external hard drive. You can start the computer with a Linux Live CD (in your new optical drive), and copy the files on the external hard drive. Then you can continue to try to repair your computer.
