Win xp-connection

Trying to connect my ASUS Netbook running Win XP, to the Internet via COMCAST, via a MOTOROLA SBG 901 wireless modem. Everything works fine for the iPad2 that I'm typing this and my other laptop. When I click on my network name, he asked the network password or WPA. The label on the bottom of my lists an SSID, a WPA - PSK modem, pass code, HFC MAC ID, gateway Mgmt MAC ID. The GC Mororola tech told me that I should use the WPA is long 20 char. XP then tells me it should be 5 or13 tank for a long time. None of the numbers on the bottom of the modem are 5 tank or 13 long. I also tried the access code, without success. The modem sees the Netbook and Netbook sees the modem, if he says we are connected to the network, but we can't go anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... Summer banging my head on this for 4 days.

The first thing to try is to hard to connect the machine to the router instead of going wireless.  Make sure that you can then access the Internet.  If it works, you can disconnect the wired connection and then try him wireless.  What he probably ask is the password of the wireless network.  Which is determined when the network is configured and is not written on the bottom of anything (but I'm not aware of how Comcast defines things upwards).  The configuration of the router software or user determines that, and so only you have access to it as far as I know.  Since it's Comcast system, you can also ask them.

I don't know if this is helpful to all.  This forum is mainly used for e-mail and you'd better check in this forum (if a moderator not shift more): http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/networking

    Hello

Have you noticed the problem even if the laptop is not connected to the network and if you want to load your user profile on Windows 7?

If this isn't the case, then I guess that it has something to do with the network, and in this case, I recommend asking the network administrator for a few suggestions.

This is a new installation, not an upgrade & I don't have that thing bounjour.

could someone tell me please how to tell my PC to do not connect to a non-existent network please

Follow the steps below to remove Windows 7 network profiles:

    1. open network and sharing Center by clicking on Start, type network and sharing Center and press enter

    2. underneath where it says view your active networks, click on the image (Globe, building, Bench, House... ect)

    3. move the window to set the properties of the network from the road, but leave it open. (You'll need it in a minute, but at a time where it is otherwise inaccessible.)

4 back on the page network and sharing Center , click change adapter settings (in the left pane).

    5. in the network connections window, select the network adapter through which you get your Internet connection.

    6. click the button disable this network device above. Wait a few seconds for the connection to reflect the change in turning gray.

    7. return to the set network location window than the step #2 and click on the Merge or delete network locations link at the bottom.

    8. turn highlight the entries you want to delete, and then click Remove. (If there is more than one, you can remove all)

    9. When you are finished, close the window of merge or delete network locations and then close the window to set the properties of the network .

10 return to the network connections window and with the adapter disabled network always set #5 step highlighted, click on the button activate this network device

    11. after 10-15 second delay, your Internet connection should work again now.

    Hope that helps!

  • To connect a Mac to a PC... editorial issues

I have an iMac (el Capitan 10.11.5) and a PC (Win 7) connected by a cable network through a router connected to the internet.

I have no problem to read all files on the PC and access the internet but I can not just change, and files on the mac and the record back for storage on the PC. I know it's a permissions problem, but I don't know how to solve it and allow the Mac to save the files on the PC.

I can read and write in public folders on my PC from the Mac, but I think that this can be dangerous because essentially anyone can access these folders apparently (although I'm not sure about that!)

Can someone help or suggest something please?

Windows uses the NTFS file system for code readers, the use of Mac HFS +. Could not open a disk of windows on a Mac because OS X supports HFS +. If you want to transfer files between your devices, I recommend you to use (I recommend a flash drive) an external storage option that is formatted in FAT32, file system is compatible with your Mac and your windows PC. The only con is that you need to copy stuff from your internal drive to the external storage device.

Please let me know if you need more assistance.

  • Keep XP Pro for another use and

I have Win 8.1 on a computer and he loved nothing, too many questions. My husband used to war on internet games and nothing else.

The other five have still XP Pro, 2 will be trashed and have been replaced by new ones (Win 7 installed), 1 will be a private server for my XP and I have a Win 7 OS in a house built with ASRock MB, AMD drivers quad, with all the drivers, audio and graphics suitable for games.

So my question: If you think that now my XP on another, standalone, server; load Malwarebytes, Super Anti Spyware and Norton 360 will be enough to keep it healthy and safe for a while. The community and the Forum taught me a lot on my XP system, I know that I can take care of him for a while.

I also want to know if I can remove some items MS I've never used in both XP and Win 7: connect Windows Live/Live Sync Upload Tool /Live / MS Games to market / Windows Live Messenger / Photo Gallery /Writer should / safe family / anything to do with editing / or fax/email/or the cloud storage / files such as those.  Can I uninstall/remove Security Essentials and defender of the window in my XP after 4/8, since their will will have no other updates for safety.

If MS never does a XP2, I'll be first inline for a place (or 6).   So sad to see the end of XP, it's the best MS OS ever produced, and I got between them, given that MS was layered and Gates had black hair.

You can remove all the programs you want anytime on any computer.

  • Networking Windows 7 with XP using the router and no internet - machines cannot be

    Hello

I searched the web and tried all kinds of suggestions to do this, but my new Win7 machine does not always show my daughters XP machine, and vice versa his XP machine is not showing my win7.

I don't want to have access to the internet so currently have my machine win 7 connected directly to my hub blank so that I can access internet from my win7 machine.  I then another connection from LAN port on my Win7 machine to the router which is also connected his XP machine.

In my networks and sharing on Win7, I see my homegroup network, which has access to the internet.  Then the other network to the router shows as "unidentified" and the public, but I am unable to change anything on this subject? So can't make a working group or at home.

The XP machine has also recognized the network and created a shared folder for its own files, but nothing for the win7 machine.

Both seem to recognize the router and network, but not each other.  Am I missing something?  If it makes any difference, I've already named two machines with the same workgroup name.

Is anyone able to offer advice?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Vicki

    Hello!

First you must make sure that the two PC's on the same workgroup. Just checking if they have the same subnet mask. And finally make sure you works discovered the network on Windows 7 PC.

If computers are subnet masks different IP addresses, they will not be able to see each other.

That I understood your message, you don't want to not PC your daughter to have access to the internet. You can assign static addresses of daughter and your computers. Try to do this:

1 assign to computer on Win XP LAN network card public static address 10.0.0.10 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.  To do this, go in Control Panel > network connections, choose the connection you must edit (the one that goes to the Windows 7 computer) and click Properties. In the windows that opens, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Then choose use the following IP address and fill in the fields with the information above.

    2. the PC Windows 7 go Network and Sharing Center > change the settings of the card and double-click adapter that connects the computer to Win XP. Click on Properties and Internet Protocol Version 4. Then choose use the following IP address and put 10.0.0.11 subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

    3. on the Windows 7 PC to go network and sharing Center > advance change sharing settings. In the public profile check turn on network discovery.

    4. make sure that both computers are on the same workgroup (important)

After completing these steps computers must be able to meet and communicate.
Hope this will help. Please let me know the results!

  • Disconnecting from the network home

Win 7 I have a stand-alone computer (not other computers) with a USB - connected printer and a connection to a modem (without router) via a network (?) (not USB) cable.  I have no other computers or printers.  Win 7 connected me to a network home, maybe because my printer is compatible with wireless (but I have no WiFi - or interest in functionality).  If I disconnect the home network I lose the internet connections or printer?

My apologies but I found your statement at the opening a bit confusing.

Your home network is connected to the modem, a local area network, and is a type of HOME that helps your computer share with a reliable source, connected to your modem/router.

A HOME network is essentially the default setting...

A PUBLIC network limited with any computer that can be attached to your router/modem to share files.

If your printer is connected via a USB cable, disconnect from the network will NOT affect the communications between your computer and the printer and the printer will do what you expect it to do.

However, you will lose Internet you disable the network connection.

  • Get the Bluescreen 0x0000007E error code during the installation of the drivers

Original title: blue screen during the installation of the drivers...

Hello microsoft community. I had a problem about Windows 7.

I am currently using an Acer Aspire, and my internet drivers won´t just install.
The following happens: when you install the driver in my computer properties, it will say that it was not possible to install it.
When you use the .exe installer, it will go straight to a blue screen, the same phenomenon occurs when you try to use the .inf via installation drive of W7.
    The error code is:
    STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0x8B3831C0, 0x8B382DAQ)
No message like: ERR_Something appeared, just a bunch of text and a STOP code.
My wireless card is an Atheros ARB597.
Ironically, nothing bad happens during the execution of a distribution such as Ubuntu Linux, the network works fine.
The only BONE observed to have problems is W7, well, it's never happened before...
Oh, and the blue screen is noticed, sometimes appear when the wireless led lights up (what it means when the wireless wins a connection with Windows), when this happens, the driver will install, but a yellow triangular symbol with an exclamation mark appears on the driver, the net still does not
Also, I have extracted the minidump and the .xml generated by the crash, if it helps. I can post

    Hi Mary,

This error (7th) is usually a driver problem and display adapter (video) driver is the most suspicious if
It could be others. Antivirus/antispyware/security programs, major software and hardware (heat)
questions can also cause the error.
