• Win7 slow, does not take into account user settings

  I have PC laptop Toshiba 64-bit using the win7 update. Drive is 7200 RPM, disparate media card, 4 GB DDR.

  I try to install 7 updates for Win7 professional, released on February 9, 2010. After you download UPDATES February 9, installation starts, but only a single update, "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool" installs successfully. The other six updates do not settle. I get an error code: 0x8000FFFF.

  Until February 9, 2010 version, all updates were downloaded and installed successfully.

  Thanks to the module of the system restore, I returned to a previous state of Win7 (31 January 2010). Windows Update displays now 10 updates available, 7 output on 9 February and 3 out the or to Jan 26.

  I DISABLED all Feb 9 version updated. Ther 3 Jan 26 updates downloaded and installed successfully! I restarted Windows to complete this insllation and then tried to install updates for Feb 9 sept. These updates download completely, but only the Windows Software Removal Tool (KB890830) installs. The other 6 do not settle as a group or individual selection.

  I repeated this procedure, with the same result, using System Restore to return to the Jan 31 Win7.
   
  My Win7Pro was bought directly from Microsoft (pre-release order) and installed from CD "Update is designed for Windows Vista".

  Why you can install windows 7 SP1 but not windows 7 SP1 - is due to the drivers included on the OS installation disc. I've seen this several times for several products and its supplier, without specific limitation.

  When win7 is released there are X hardwares so most common for those adding drivers to OS from MS (it's the prectice Microsoft makes all the time). After awhile it drivers X + there are also offered to users MS includes these drivers under Softpaq to OS disk.

• 64-bit worth it? Problems I should wait?

  I put my computer upgraded and looking to upgrade to Windows 7 - here is the specs:
  ATI Radeon 4870 1 GB
  AMD Phenom II 955 (image 3.2 mhz)
  3 (1066) 4 GB DDR RAM (2x2gig sticks) (was cheaper for me to get that 3 1gig sticks)
  320 GB hard drive - old, not updated for another month or two...

  I have a few questions:
  (1.) I'm a gamer - I play a lot of old adventure games, a lot of news (Wallace and Gromit, Tales of Monkey Island) and a lot of new action games (Crysis, Prototype, Arkham Asylum and some older like Half Life 2, Counter Strike). If I switch to Windows 7 64-bit, what types of problems I encounter? I know I need to update the drivers, what kind of problems with software compatibility?
  2.) I know that the restrictions with 32-bit ram (3.2 or about), so if I go with 32-bit, Windows will use as much as possible, even if it only uses half a wand - or it will use only a stick?

  I love the game, so I wouldn't go 64-bit and limit the availability of my game, or stick to 32 bit and limit my ability of material. What are your ideas/advice?

  Hey, man, we have similar systems (of course, you are a smart man with taste), I have same Proc, asus 3AM79T Deluxe MB with 5870 but he had the 4870 1 previous.  I have 8 GB of DDR2 ram.

  I ran XP32 with 4 GB of ram and Vistax64 and Win7 x 64 with 8 GB of ram.

  I'm a player, Vista x 64 run all my games more Rapids then XP32.  Then, I've played NWN2, Vanguard, EQ1 and EQ2 and Civilization IV.  Some other games, but those who were and are still the most important until the Dragon Age.  Windows 7 x 64 runs all the games that I had in vista better then Vista, with the exception of Civ IV, I can not play mulitplayer, I get an error Out of constant Sync, and I alone out of sync, so it is a matter of Win 7. I hope that Firaxis patches it.

  I can't say with problem that all games work, how ever up here almost all the games I tried this worked under XP running Windows 7 x 64 Vista x 64.  Those who are very old, maybe dual boot with new drive keeping XP32 around old games?  New release games will work of course, and DX11 will soon be a common API used.  Drivers for win 7 are easy, if there are Vista drivers work (make sure you use the right x 32 or x 64 according to installs Windows 7).  Model 1.0 used Vista driver Windows 7 is 1.0 and 1.1, allowing you to use the Vista drivers until win7 are released.  The latest ATI drivers have so far been flawless for me on the 5870.

  32 bit OS can address all the 4 GB of ram, but due to restrictions will allow only 2 GB for applications and all about .5GB will be left unused by the operating system.  X 64 operating systems may use much more, how ever you must understand that, in a BONE, each space of memory 64-bit is sent 64-bit long, but a 32-bit application can only write to a 32-bit address, which means that your losing half of the addressed memory space.  Easy way to think about it is that, if your use of a 64-bit OS running a 32-bit application you have half your memory to a maximum of 3.5 GB essentially made available to them (well 2 GB for the application it self unless your running specially coded and updated software, but it is the workstation and the server arena) no games).  So for example I have 8 GB and 4 GB is available to the forefront, including only 2 GB can be used.

  If your really worried or want to keep compatibility, buy a new drive with windows 7 and leave your old intact XP32, I install XP32 back on my Saturday for CivIV system I play multiplayer with friends one or two times a week.  It will be double started on a former player.

  I've used a Canon 60 d which was brilliant! My husband bought me a 70 d at Christmas as a surprise. However, I have problems with the shutter speed. In automatic mode, everything is fine but on manual, Av, Tv etc I seem to be unable to change the shutter speed of a very slow release. I want to know if the unit is defective somehow, or if there is something I should be doing that I'm not. Please can someone advise/inform me what I can do wrong or if it's something I should take with Canon?

  First of all, you need to reset your 70 d to the factory settings. Check your manual for more information on how to do it.

  Are you absolutely sure about that? So, on the format tab, you have selected English, on the location tab and the default location, keyboard you English only / default and under the heading administration tab you have chosen English as parameters system and copied account system settings by default/so? I remember having this discussion once in the past where it turned out that everything had not been put to English after all so just check.

  In this case, the only reason I see is that you have installed a few programs while you were still a few parameters defined in German as java and even if later changed to English this program remember again the parameters.

  Regarding the Lenovo software, I did a lot of work in the past to understand how they choose the language, because basically I want my software to be English, while I've always had some settings in Norwegian. I discovered that all of this had to do with the settings under settings "Region and language". The Lenovo system update for sure use the settings in the language and region settings. You can download the Microsoft process monitor and you will see what registry keys that are read to find the correct language and you will also find that those who are related to the settings I want to talk. The language of the graphical interface of system update can easily be changed with the "reg" language override key.

  I have the solution by chance. I was looking for the latest drivers GeForce for Windows 7 x 64 and I read the accompanying note: http://fr.download.nvidia.com/Windows/337.88/337.88-win8-win7-notebook-release-notes.pdf
  On page 17, you can read the following note to fix: "[GeForce FX 770 M] [portable]: blocking of the blue screen occurs after Windows starts."
  
  Of course, GeForce FX 770 M does not exist (and never was), and it should be Quadro FX 770 M. I can bet that nVidia has corrected this famous BSOD problem in the wrong driver because always there is nothing about any "Quadro FX 770 M - fix" in the note accompanying the latest Quadro (340.52) driver.

  You try the GeForce driver above, but to install it, you may need to download an INF file modified with the addition of the ID of Quadro FX 770 M (= "NVIDIA_DEV.065C ="NVIDIA Quadro FX 770 M"). Try without the first modified INF file because the Quadro FX 770 M is listed as a compatible chip in the version of the driver GeForce 337.88 note...

  I'll try that, even though I am completely sastified with the latest driver for Quadro (feasible) (285.62) without disable Powermizer. I did not try the latest Quadro drivers again (to be honest).

• Photo Story 3 product compatible for Windows 7

  Is there a replacement for Photo Story 3 with the same dubbing operation? It is to keep an image until you have finished talking and then start moving at the set speed. I tried Adobe Photo and Prime Elements 8 and this program makes my computer to do stupid things. Corel works OK, however, it will not stop the show while dubbing. Any help is appreciated.

  I just bought a computer with Windows 7 OS and was disappointed that PhotoStory does not work on this OS and that Movie Maker had taken voice component.  I teach high school and College students and I used both programs for a number of years.  I don't like not a component of the voice.

  Question: Microsoft seeks to silence the voices of its users?  First, the component of speak in Word and now narration for movie listings.  With the difficulty of loading of other programs on the computers in the school, I don't see any hope for my students.

  Microsoft will perhaps fix this and give us the voices of children?

  I have a TV tuner card installed on my PC and was seen no problem pulling in all my OTA channels in my area of Minneapolis/St. Paul MN.  Now a channel does not work it's affiliate Fox 9.1.  9.2 works fine and all my other channels.  9.1 works very well on my other two TVs connected to the same antenna.  I wonder if there is a setting or something that could help me with this problem.  Thank you.

  I'll also have a very similar problem.  Using OTA in cleveland, oh and the same error message, even if I have a problem with 19.1 (CBS) but 19.2 is fine as well as all my other stations.  I have my pc connected to a plasma tv and if I change its entry for antenna 19.1 comes to the fine and they are both connected to the same antenna.  I deleted and re-analyzed for channels and 19.1 is here and checking of its green signal strength but no picture.  I also tried to uninstall/reinstall the (aver Duo media) tv tuner driver nothing works.  This is a recent problem that this system has been since win7 is released and this channel has always worked. If you have found a solution, could you please post.

  OK, I found a solution that worked for me, its the site of hack7mc. http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/09/clearing-Guide-data-and-tuner-Setup-from-Windows-7-Media-Center.html.  I didn't know all the services they have highlighted but I stop those who ran, deleted the db for the guide data and restarted. Once back at the CCM reran the live tv Setup and everything worked. I hope this helps.

• Clean install of my windows 7 64-bit OS

  I bought a HP laptop several years ago which came with Vista 64 bit but eligible for free upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.  This was done as soon as Win7 is released.  Since then, I had problems unrelated and a computer repair tech company did a clean install of Windows 7.  I do not know the product windows key 7.  I'm no longer on the mandate to speak with him and may not know him.  I would find a new victory. 7 disc 64-bit with a new lic. key but cannot locate this info on the Microsoft site.  can someone help me. ?

  Unfortunately, you simply need to purchase a new license, since you will not likely recover this product key.

  You can always try Microsoft technical support, but if they can't help, better that you invest in a new upgrade license to Windows 8.1.
