When trying to make LIVER WINDOW MESSENGER OPEN, I get a msg saying: we cannot connect to windows live messenger. How can this be rectified... ?

This should do the trick,

  • Press windows + R and type "Regedit".
  • Open 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger '.
  • Delete the folder called MSN Messenger

After this MSN Messenger Live should connect as usual.

Window Live Mail does not open the wmv files.  It comes up with an error that says: (wrong parameters).  Also gives the path that looks all wrong.  How can I change these settings?

If I save the wmv on my desktop it will open, so I think that the file association is OK.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5. Select: Windows Media Player.
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

  • After saving the emails from windows live mail, why not open them on my computer as the file extension is wlmail.fol?

After saving the emails from windows live mail, why not open them on my computer as the file extension is wlmail.fol?

wlmail.fol is a tiny text giving the name of the folder. The exported messages will have filenames like 00D13E83 - 000025DF.eml. If you don't see all of the files like this, your export probably did not work properly.

For a successful export, follow these directions:

    1. Set Windows Live Mail to work offline before starting.
    2. Create a temporary folder on your desktop * to contain the exported messages.
    3. In the Export Wizard, select the temporary folder, and then select all the folders.* *
    4. When it is complete, check that the number of files in each folder to the temporary folder is one more than the number of messages in the corresponding folder of WLMail.
    5. Copy the temporary file to its final destination.
If you use a reader not NTFS to do this, you will see a warning that certain file properties will not be copied files. This can be ignored.

    * Windows Live Mail do not work with files that are not on a local drive, as opposed to an external or network drive. This is avoided by using the office as a temporary folder location.
    * If you want to export the files sampled only, select each of them containing messages. Subfolders are not automatically selected by default.

    Hello KT123,.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

I have a few questions for you:

Windows Live Messenger has already worked for you? If Yes, then you can do a system restore to when he worked for you.  Please follow the article below to perform a system restore when Windows Live Messenger was working.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212

I found a possible solution for you from another forum.

Use Regedit to remove the following key:

    • Click on the ORB start
    • To search, type Regedit.
    • If you receive a notification of user account control, click on continue.
    • Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\Policies.
    • If the key exists, delete the key.

Once this key is deleted, try Windows Live Messenger and see if now it opens and works for you.

If please post again and let us know if you need more assistance.

    Sincerely,
