  There is no error like code: 0XDEEDFADE

  Usually due to a bad driver, or a faulty or incompatible hardware or software. Use the general troubleshooting of STOP the Messages above checklist. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel interrupt request level (IRQL) that was too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower or equal to, its own.)

  The symptoms you describe it sounds as if you might meet a malware\virus infection.  I would like to start by doing a few scans of your system with your current antivirus and another company of analysis online.  Have you used the Norton removal tool to uninstall Norton, or did you do it through remove programs?  If you have not used the Norton removal tool you should do it now.

When you run a manual check of updates by http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/How-can-I-tell-if-my-computer-is-up-to-date, which (if any) other updates are offered in addition to the Office 2007 SP3?  [Before moving to #2 below, note the number of KB updates & post / them in your next reply as your response to #1].

  Comment: As I pointed out in my first post above, your mobile Wi - Fi connection may not always reliable enough for Windows Update in order to install Office 2007 SP3. If this is the case, you may need to carry your computer in your son & DIL House to install it, possibly manually (which would require to download the "fullfile" 351,9 MB Installer).

  Besides, I have a few things more up my sleeve that I could talk after seeing your replies to my three questions above. Hang on!
