  • Windows XP: Automatic updates cannot be activated?

For some reason, when I start my PC, the small icon bottom right tray comes up saying the automatic updates are disabled. So, I click on the bubble to open the Security Center interface and click on the button "Turn on automatic updates" and I get a little error box indicating:

"We are sorry. The Security Center could not change your Automatic Updates settings. To try to change these settings yourself, go to system in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates tab, select Automatic (recommended) and then click OK. »

So I go to system in Control Panel and click on the automatic, but Automatic Updates tab is already selected.

So I can't tell if they are actually on or not. Does anyone know what is the problem?

  • How to stop windows vista automatic updates

Whenever I connect to the internet, I get an update automatic windows vista. This drains my allowance of month for the internet in a few minutes and I can't find an option to stop the download updates automatically.

It's cost me money, I pay to go on my internet allowance, and I can't stop it!

    See the following articles

You should not receive updates each time you turn on the computer. Microsoft releases security updates the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am PST. No security updates may appear to be the fourth Tuesday of the month. Updates to the Windows Defender definitions are issued twice a week. Windows Security Essentials (if you have one) will be updated daily. There are occasional updates outside this cycle. You should check your update history where an update fails to install and is given several times.

  • I have the error in windows xp automatic update 0 x 80240036

I had installed windows xp pro 32 bit sp3 geniune

I tried to install the updates but it showing the error number: 0 x 80240036

I have the latest java installed updates

A solution was found for 0 x 80240036 error while trying to connect to windows update after a new installation of Windows XP, XP SP1 and SP2 of XP. Here's the skinny: while trying to connect to windows update (custom or express), Windows Update will prompt you with an error 0 x 80240036. Here's the reason: Microsoft has changed the update process, and given that empty Microsoft support for XP, there is a work-by-turn. The work-a-round is simple: network install redistributable download Service Pack 3 (WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3 - x 86 - ENU.exe). The file is quite large and may take a few minutes to download (less than 5 min on 20.0Mbps. 324 030 KB) http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/9/3/99397B1E-41B7-4BC6-980B-01F10231ABDC/WindowsXP-KB2508272-x86-ENU.exe run the installation of Service Pack 3, restart, then try to launch Windows Update from Microsoft. It worked for me. Ignore all the * Antivirus and software... This solution works for new installations of windows OWN who have absolutely NO third-party software what-so-ever. If you have found another solution that does not require the installation of SP3, please do not hesitate to let me know. Good luck!

  • Set to automatic update gave BSOD

    Hi all

I recently installed a service pack windows from automatic updating (I don't know which) and when I restarted my computer I got the blue screen of death. I tried to reboot in safe mode, but it keeps going back to the same screen.

The tech info that gave me was:

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

    STOP: 0X000000ED (0X86D69C08, 0X00000000, 0XC000009C, 0X00000000)

I don't have my installation CD and I am running windows XP media center edition. Any suggestions on what I should do? What I've read it seems I need drives so is there anyway I can get them online or something?

    Thank you

    How to ask a question
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/555375 >

It helps those answering questions if you provide:

what the version of windows (32-bit or 64-bit) and service pack level.

you use what browser (exact version).

what application anti-virus or security suite is installed and your current subscription?

    What third-party firewall

What anti-malware software can be installed.

What updates you trying to install? (Number of KB)

Please do it in your next reply.

Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr... You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a burning third-party software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free CDBurnerXP Pro. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

    http://www.CDBurnerXP.se/>

Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.

If the drive passes all physical tests (long test), then retrieve your data using a Linux Live CD (I prefer Knoppix) or a Bart PE and do a clean install of Windows, because the file system is completely b0rked.

  • Automatic updates still says kb2686827 update after installation

ORIGINAL TITLE: Question automatic updates of Windows

Automatic updates show kb2686827 updated, but when I connect to the Microsoft Update Web site this update was not available. So I downloaded the update form Microsoft Download Center and installed, but it is still showing in the automatic updates of Windows. Should I worry that this update is still on display in the automatic updates for Windows XP? Is it possible to verift the update I downloaded has been installed properly?

    Thank you

KB2686827 were offered again and if so, hide you?

A root certificates update was available and if so, have you successfully installed it?

Why do you recommend not not to install the optional software updates?

In fact, there are two 2 types of optional software updates available - but neither is related to security:

    1. a type covers relatively minor bugs/quirks in, for example, Windows, Office & obscure things such as SQL Server. If you're having any problems (or if you do not use the feature being fixed), why install it?

2 other installs actually Microsoft software (it is estimated wisdom) think you need pourrait a day (for example, .NET Framework 4 Client Profile). If you need now and you can always install it manually, if need be, if & when you do need, why clutter up your system with it now? [1]

There are 1 an exception to this rule for Windows XP-based computers (only): according to the Automatic Updates configuration, automatic update may not install the root certificates periodic updates (KB931125) for you. It is therefore very important to run manual checks for updates from time to time & see if one is available/offered.

    ==================================================================
[1] there are many third-party providers (i.e. non-Microsoft) applications that require a certain version of the .NET Framework. In most cases, the application will install the version of .NET Framework for you if it is not already installed.
