  I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and within 24 hours, my hard drive is dead. I replaced the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium with 64-bit disc.   If your laptop has Windows 8 or higher, Microsoft codes the license on the hard drive rather than put a sticker on the base. Sounds like the repair people could have used a dubious copy to reinstall it on the new hard drive. Microsoft may allow you to report it as pirate software, but I'm not sure they'll give you a free copy. The other alternative is to contact ToshIba to buy a complete set of recovery disks, or take it back to the shop.

  I had to do a repair reinstall because of virus issues, and every time I try to activate windows it says that my product key is not valid. I tried online with automated phone activation and with an agent of the customer on the line, nothing helps.

  I have the portable authentication certificate delivered with and I was wondering if there is information which could be used to verify my product, or is there anything else I can do to check this version of 7?
