OK, you have failures of update for MSXML 4.0, work with .net Framework.

So to install MSXML 4.0 Sp3 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=7f6c0cb4-7a5e-4790-a7cf-9e139e6819c0&displaylang=en ), uninstall Works 8 and install again.

For issues of .net, remove .net Framework with the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.asp x), reinstall it and updates with Windows Update.

  • Vista - Error Code: 0 X 80240016 (cannot install updates)

I had problems with my windows from loading up sometimes, I have to let a repair of half the time before it will load up, I got messages that my windows Defender has stopped working properly and when I try to update I get this error code 0 x 80240016, I need help I don't know what to do I don't know anything about using a computer, so please tell me step by step what to do. I have windows VISTA, thanks.

I had a windows care, but I deleted it when it expired...

You should have uninstalled OneCare AND downloaded / run the OneCare cleanup utility and then installed AVG [1], BEFORE the expiry of your OneCare subscription.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "ofhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a USB stick, SD card or external drive that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

Tip: After getting the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the removal tool appropriate prior to installing the updates, Windows Service Packs or IE upgrades AND BEFORE installing your new anti-virus application.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

    Good luck!

Trying to install the 6 windows and ServicePack 2 updates and all fail. Item was not found, error_not_found. Tried to install individually, I tried standalones, tool tried, tried to reset components, tried with all safety, tried with all users. Step 7 (method for Windows Vista), the * UPGRADE option is not available because Service Pack/s are installed and that your operating system is newer than the system you are trying to reinstall, so service pack/s must be removed in this case.
