Cannot close the bookmark sidebar
I use FireFox on Windows XP SP3.
I chose a bookmark in the bookmark drop down menu. Instead open a new tab, the URL to the bookmark opened in the bookmark sidebar to the left of the main tab content.
Now, I can't close or destroy the Bookmark sidebar. It takes a lot of the screen and it's very frustrating that I can't close or minimize.
Please let me know if you have any tips on what to do to get rid of him.
Thank you.
Update:
I was able to close the sidebar by selecting the menu item view > sidebar > bookmarks. So, the problem is almost solved. However, I wasn't able to get the sidebar to close by selecting the x in the upper right of the sidebar. There seems to be a bug in this mechanism to close the sidebar.
Thank you.
Bookmarks that open in the sidebar is the default value for the bookmarks created via a link or a button on a Web site to add a bookmark for this site.
- Check the properties of a bookmark using the context menu in the side bar (Ctrl + B; Cmd + B on Mac).
- In the Bookmark Manager (Bookmarks > show all bookmarks) you can click on the button more in the lower details pane on the right.
- Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected (uncheck it).

I can't open the desktop SHORTCUTS in FIREFOX browser. The bookmark opens in another browser.
Click on the orange button Firefox, go to Options | Options | Advanced and make sure to always check that Firefox is the browser by default at startup is checked.
You can view the other browser to make sure that something similar isn't checked there as well.

When I want to bookmark a page, how can I know FF which folder in bookmarks in place?
I've just updated to V29 and my favorite features are missing. The first is the drop down menu that allowed me to specify the folder in which I want to a new bookmark in place. The new star of the bookmark is just all new bookmarks in a pen. (Ugh!) The second is the disappearance of the signet Library window that allowed me to easily make a bunch of changes and re - org many bookmarks easily... Y at - it to get to a window similar to the new version?
To bookmark, to do this.
For the current page, right-click and select
Put bookmark this Page.
A link on the page, right-click on the link and select
Put bookmark this Page.
You should then see a window titled bookmark
The top input box is the name of the bookmark. The default value is the
the page / link name. But you can change it to what you want.
Under that is a box labeled folder. This is where the bookmark will be
stored. BUT, if you want the bookmark to another folder, press
arrow down to the far right. -

How the bookmark sidebar to restore its position of scroll at startup of Firefox?
Why Firefox not restore the sidebar bookmark scroll position and open folders to the exact state it was when I closed the browser?
I confess I have far too many bookmarks, but especially then restore the scroll position and open folders is essential for me.
Is it all "subject: config ' setting to fix this?I don't think that the position of ScrollBar to the bookmarks bar is stored in the file localstore.rdf (does not for me also), so you can't keep this position in a session.

Sometimes, I open multiple windows, especially from my box from Comcast. When I'm through with this window, I will conclude, but leave others more open. FIrefox won't do this anymore when I close the 1 window, Firefox send me a message stating that it is to CLOSE all THE TABS. I DON'T want TO CLOSE all of them, I want to just close the window I close!. This is very annoying, because I have to re - login to all, because FIrefox is 'CLOSE all THE TABS', and everything I want to do to close a window... I'm about to chuck this browser... I tried to find an answer to this in the tools, but was unable to do so. Please help me with this
Make sure that you do not click the X close in the title bar like that closes the active window with all the tabs.
If you have the tab bar visible then click the X close this tab or mid, tab, or use the shortcut Ctrl + W key to close the tab.
If the resulting tab bar hidden then see:

Remove the extraneous information in the bookmarks sidebar
Is attached a screenshot of Mozilla Firefox 42 on my Windows 7 PC. I like having the bookmarks bar, but want to remove the foreign text following at the top of the sidebar:
1. the word "Bookmarks" immediately under the top left of the sidebar bookmarks bar
2. the word "Seek" and next to it search engine
3. the words "Personal bar" in the search window. (Even if I hold the toolbar of bookmarks with links to those sites that I visit often to be visible. I just useless the 'personal bar' on the box.)Please look at the picture before you answer. This will make clear what I'm trying to delete.
Any tips? Thanks for your help.
You can hide the line with the tag of Favorites and the close icon and the search by the userChrome.css code bar, but you can't hide the bookmarks toolbar because this entire content consists of a single treechildren element.
Add code to the file userChrome.css below default @namespace.
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */ #sidebar-header, #search-box { display:none!important; }
The file userChrome.css (UI) customization and userContent.css (Web sites) are located in the folder of chrome in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)
- Create the folder chrome (lowercase) in the .default < xxxxxxxx > profile folder if the folder does not exist
- Use a text editor like Notepad to create a userChrome.css (new) file in the folder chrome (file name is case sensitive)
- Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the Editor window
- Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
- Make sure that you select "All files" and not "text files" when you save the file via "save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.
Otherwise, Windows can add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with one does not not userChrome.css.txt file

How can I get my bookmarks toolbar and not the bookmark sidebar?
How can I get my favorites back bar located on the section of the upper toolbar that runs through the screen. I loved the toolbar at the top of the screen. I want to get it back, he disappeared and everything I am able to do is the sidebar to bookmarks toolbar, which I hate. Can you help me? Thank you.
You can use one of the following methods to display the toolbar list and activate the desired bars it:
- Right click on a place empty on the tab bar (or the button '+')
- Press the Alt key to activate the classic menu bar > view > toolbars
- in customize mode > show/hide toolbars (see: Customize Firefox commands, buttons, and toolbars)
To enable the bookmarks toolbar, bar of menus or other bars, click it in the list.
Success?

Nothing in the worm 29 bookmarks sidebar. How to bring back my favorites?
I have my favorites in folders. They are always in the bookmarks drop-down menu, but not in the sidebar. Nothing does highlight or shows by mousing over the Favorites sidebar area.
Problems with bookmarks and history does not properly can be caused by a corrupted database places.sqlite file.
You can check for problems with the database places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

When I've upgraded to Firefox 4 My Bookmarks toolbar was still there, but instead of going through the entire screen, on the right side is the menu bookmarks menu drop-down (with options to display all bookmarks, Bookmark this Page, and all of my bookmark folders). When I turn on the menu bar that it disappears from this place because it is in the Menu bar instead. I wish I had the hidden menu bar, but I don't want the menu bookmark taking place in my Bookmarks toolbar either. Is it possible to move (or delete)?
I had the same problem. Try to delete the bookmarks drop down menu on the Navigation bar button.

36.0.1 under Windows 7 Firefox crashes on the first click, can't kill processes
After the 36.0.1 on a Windows 7 computer, Firefox crashes after the first click on a link or when you try to open a new tab. I can't kill the process from the Task Manager. Need to reboot to get rid of the process.
My attempts to solve the problem so far:
Uninstalled Firefox & my anti-virus program, removed Mozilla dirs Program Files and AppData and cleaned the registry. Then reinstalled Firefox after the restart, still hangs on the first click on a link. Even impossible to kill the process, help to only to restart.I tried on another Windows user; does not help. Still the same symptoms.

Thank you for your support. Given the quick succession of versions of Firefox, I just waited out 37. My problem is over now.
