Windows 7 installation problem: device driver cd/dvd not found___
I am running Windows XP 32-bit and just bought the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I ran the update Advisor and I can run the 64-bit version - I'm running a 3gig dual-core rig.
When I start the computer from the windows disk it says above (job title) after waiting ages in the installation program. It is not also take me to a page to do a clean install, as in windows XP when you went blue screen startup. All I want to do is to format my C drive and install Windows 7 above, but happens as if I want to that I don't have.
I don't want to format my hard drive to find that Windows 7 does not correctly or the other? Any suggestions? Why what is happening and why can't I just do a clean install - i.e. Delete partition, format partition etc and install Windows 7?
There are 2 main threads for this issue, which seems to be related to the retail drives (and others):
And the other is a general discussion thread:
I posted a few solutions in the first thread, so I would check everything first.
Also, can you let me know if your machine is a gateway?
I hope this helps. If you find my answer was what you're looking for, remember to click on the box "mark as answer" below!

Range of printers HP C4860/driver installation problems - no driver? / will not scan
Yesterday, after some small problems printing and indications that there may be a driver problem, I reinstalled the full software and drivers from the HP website. When installing to the step where you plug in the usb cable, the software would not recognize the printer (even though XP recognized it and it was listed in the hardware of the system). I downloaded the troubleshooting program and ran the scan. He stopped at the level "pilot" and would go no further. I tried to reinstall the software several times on the site (full and short versions and also on the CD) but still no luck.
Symptoms: I can print from a variety of programs (Open Office, web, Notepad, MS Paint, etc.). Can not scan from printer touchpad or computer. Screen HP Solution Center shows only the option "transfer of images. Help!

Hi wbyberg,
Can you run a restore point back to a date before the execution of this solution to see if the printer is working correctly?

Help, please! Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH40F SCSI CdRom Device) because the driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Hello
Code 39 means that the driver is corrupted or missing.
Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
the question.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or

Install device driver CD/DVD of Windows 7 error HELP Please!
Hi all, I currently have a problem extremely weird about installing windows 7. I get the following message:"A required CD/VDVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver on floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now. »
I downloaded the Windows 7 upgrade utility and it said everything was fine except for messenger, something aero and my printer.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.
ARGH its boring that his does not work. People claim that its something to do with writing speed but I installed the copy on my computer laptop too. I downloaded my Windows 7 since the MSDN site and have tried 3 downloads separated and all come with the same question.
I found the answer, I hope this will help others.
1. I've updated my BIOS and drivers, the DVD burned on the slowest speed possible (x 2), but without success.
2. reinstalled windows XP and run the Upgrade Advisor, and he says I can tun Windows 7 very well.
3. tried installed and got the error error driver CD/DVD.Step 3 confused me and to be honest a little fing and jeffing, BUT although the Upgrade Advisor said that everything was OK, I decided to go to my local "Rip Off World" and buy an external DVD drive. Went into the BIOS and the value that it is the primary boot device and hey presto it was install and sorters suitcase!
I could not find the drivers for my CD or DVD so, as that was the issue before the installation of Windows 7 (with external DVD drive), I tried I pulled the power cables of my internal CD and DVD players. After I installed Windows 7 now, I placed the power cables, turn it back on and guess what... Windows 7 detects and updated the drivers for me!
Computers are sometimes a pain in the * and other great times!
Hope this helps others.

Error installation software device driver for removable devices in Windows Vista x 64
I have Windows Vista x 64 installed on my PC and nVidia Forceware motherboard and graphic cards.
When I plug in any removable drive into my USB 2.0 port, Windows starts the installation of the device driver software and then sees it as an unknown device. The dialog where he asks me if I want to 'locate and install driver software', 'Ask Me later' or 'don't show this message for this device.
I select the recommended option: "locate and install driver software.
I click 'Continue' when Windows asks me permission to continue.
Then, when the execution of the installer of the software in the bottom right of my screen, the installation of driver software for device, it shows "unidentified device failed.
Then another window pops up saying this:
"Found New Hardware - device unknown".
Windows encountered a problem installing the software driver for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error trying to install it.
Kodak
An error occurred during the installation of the device:
The driver for this device is missing a necessary entry. Maybe it's because the file INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for driver software. »
That's what he does when I'm trying to connect my Kodak Easyshare M550 digital camera. I would go ahead and contact Kodak, but the problem seems to extend to ANY removable device on my computer.
For example, I have a Lexar Flashdrive. When I plug it into my USB 2.0 port, it Windows says the following:
"Windows needs to install driver software for your USB Flash Drive", etc...
'Install the device driver software', 'USB Flash Drive search Windows Update'...
Then a window opens asking me to "insert the disk that came with your USB key. Problem is that no driver disk not supplied with the hardware that Windows Vista is supposed to come with the drivers. I know this because the camera and usb flash drive worked very well until I reinstalled Windows Vista on my new hard drive (new installation, because my old hard drive crashed) and I've NEVER had to install device drivers for Windows to recognize it as a removable drive and operate automatically.
Also, I installed Daemon Tools Lite and I had to manually "Update" the device driver to point to the "Windows\INF" folder in my hard drive, after copying the cdrom files needed for the specific subfolders for windows to let the program assign a drive letter for the drive virtual it creates.
I think that perhaps not all device drivers have been installed when I installed Windows Vista, this time. If that's the problem, I don't know how that could happen, nor how to fix it, but I really prefer to find a way to solve this problem without reinstalling Windows Vista again. I don't mind not manually install the drivers as long as someone can show me what files to copy and where to find them on the Windows Vista disk that I bought at Microsoft. I KNOW that Windows HAS come with these drivers.
If anyone knows how I can fix this, please tell me, because it's ridiculous to not be able to use any removable device readers (except for the use of all Flash drives). Thanks in advance.
I know it can be frustrating to solve problems.

Until a few days ago, this problem didn't exist - I know. My CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized in Windows Explorer, BIOS or Device Manager. It doesn't, however, appears briefly in Windows Explorer in the analysis of the security of the computer. It allows to open/close, etc. and when it is visible, I am able to open the drive and see the contents of the CD. Then it disappears again. The light flashes indicating that he works and I can hear it trying to read the CD. I uninstalled iTunes because I read somewhere that this may have been the issue - but that didn't work. I tried the system restore, registry cleaners, removal of upper/lower case filters from the registry, used the program Fixit found on the site Web of Microsofts etc and still no luck. Any ideas? The computer is a gateway SX2850 (?) with Windows 7 Home Premium installed.
