Windows 7 restarts after a stop

Hi everyone, I have had this problem for as long as I can remember. When I would shut down Windows 7 it would end closing and then, to the point that it is supposed to stop, it restarts

It happens all the time and I couldn't find a solution after trying many things I've seen on the Windows community forums with similar problems. I tried updating the bios, changing "PowerdownAfterShutdown' from 0 to 1 in the registry, and then 1-0, checked the event viewer and found no error message, reset the BIOS to factory settings by removing the battery for half an hour, and even after the upgrade to a brand new SSD and install Windows 7 from scratch the problem persists. This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the motherboard and BIOS; but like I said that I've already updated and even reset the BIOS and it still happens.

System Specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz (Q6600 B3)

Card mother Gigabyte (GA-N650SLI-DS4)

8 GB of RAM (4 x 2 GB DDR2)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics 760

SSD 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo (operating system)

Barracuda 2 TB HDD (mass storage)

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Gordo,

    Hello

After installing xp sp3 if I stop my laptop while on external power, it seems to stop and power off of the fine - then 5 seconds later, it restarts?

If I turn off the external power (or pull the power cable on) if the machine is running on its battery - then stop - everything works fine. I have checked the event logs and see no error which would cause a reboot on shutdown. I disabled the reboot on system error switch and I turned off the wake of the bios on the options.

I also looked in Device Manager and off anything that could wake the machine after his stop (only found the modem). I am at a loss - I don't see why external power would cause the works to restart but battery very well. Finally its possible this safe mode can also not working after installed sp3.

If anyone has any ideas - I'd appreciate really them. It looks like there may be a newer bios available (I'm on V1.2) but I've seen a few posts cautioned against an updated bios windows at level - once again any info - very very welcome.

I searched in the forum for similar issues and in many cases enabled Wake up on LAN would cause a reboot.
I know, you have this disabled in BIOS, but you should also check the LAN card properties in Device Manager.
You will find an Advanced tab can disable this option too!

Satellite A110-275 belongs to the series of PSAB0E.
There is a new BIOS for PSAB0E series.

BIOS v2.0 is OS independent. Means that he s created for Win XP and other OS.
V5.40 BIOS is only for Vista OS.

If you are using Win XP, then you should take the independent BIOS of the OS!

HP ENVY 700-327C of office computer running windows 7.  The first image of windows freezes when starting after his stop.  Will restart after system recovery. Any ideas?

    Hello stevecnm,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the Forums of HP, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I understand that your computer hangs at the Windows startup screen when it starts after a stop, and I guess you mean it starts after a repair system no recovery.

If I am incorrect and it is the recovery of the system, then the problem you describe seems to be a physical problem and I think it would be better if you contact HP Support for service options.

If however it is the repair of the system, I would recommend that you follow the steps I outlined below:

    Step 1. Click Start

Step 2. Click on all programs

    Step 3. Click on accessories

Step 4. Right click on command prompt

Step 5. Click on run as administrator

    Step 6. Type "sfc/scannow".

Step 7. When the scan is finished restart your computer

If the problem is resolved, we are done.

If the problem is not resolved, then I recommend that you look at and follow the HP Support document: backup of files (Windows 7), which will guide you through to ensure your personal files are stored. Once your personal files are backed up correctly I suggest review you and follow the HP Support document: performing a recovery of HP (Windows 7) system, that will repair your computer back to factory settings.

If this does not solve your problem then I think it would be better if you contact HP Support for service options.

I want to thank you for display on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Windows 8 restarts after shutdown

I have a new computer I7 with Windows 8, and after two weeks of work very well now it reboots after I stopped it.   I have read many of the posts, but they seem to be for the installation of Windows 8 on Windows 7.  My computer never saw Windows 7.   This doesn't seem to be a common problem.  The only software I have loaded in addition to own Windows products are ESET (anti-virus), Adobe Lightroom 4, Google Chrome and GSAK (a database for geocaching).   Any thoughts on what could cause this or what I need to do to fix?

I had the same problem when I select "Shut down" in the "Power" menu, it restarts in fact instead of power. After that, when I connect, it gives me an error message "send / do not sent" who says that my computer has encountered a problem when stopping down and it restarted.
But the Solution obtained by following these simple steps of 5:

    1. If you are on the new screen startup, power supply , and Windows will automatically search for the term and will show you the results.

If you are on the desktop, move your cursor to the top right of the screen to access the new Charms Bar. Now, click on the option Search and the power of type in the search box.

    2. now click on parameters of link given in law-bar side of search page results and then click on the link ' change this power buttons " given in the search results.

    3. it will open Power Options window. You can also open the same window by typing powercfg.cpl in the dialog box RUN and press enter and then click on the link ' choose what buttons power ' in the left sidebar.

Now go down to bottom and you will see "Turn the quick start (recommended)" option in the settings to stop section.

4 turn off the option by unchecking the check box, and then click the "Save Changes" button.

PS: If the option is not shown or grayed out, scroll to the top and click on the link "Change settings that are currently unavailable" .

    5. it's her. Now all sweetness and light. No reboot and no message "recover from a mistake. Restart your system and your reboot or shutdown problems should get fixed in Windows 8.

  • Office stuck in a loop of starting Windows XP restart after changing the map of memory of RAM DDR

I added that a card of memory DRAM DDR to my CPU ENPower and immediately after my monitor has not received a signal. Then, after reading several articles, I cleaned the CMOS battery, and although he got the monitor works he has also prevented my system to boot with the Windows XP operating system. I've accessed the CMOS utility to change the date/time, nothing helps I still can't get in Windows XP and the user login screen. Now, the system passes through 1 and 2 screens that are part of the commissioning, then lands on the Safe Mode Options screen by which he gets "stuck" not allowing me to select the data options, then it will auto restart every 30 seconds.

    The screen message reads:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly or has been automatically closed down to protect your files or folders, select last good known Configuration to return to the most recent settings that worked. If a previos startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or Reset button was pressed, or if you are not sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows normally. »

    Safe mode

    Safe mode with networking

    Safe mode with command prompt

    Last good known Configuration

    Start Windows normally

All the these appear on the same screen, but I have no opportunity to select one of them during this mode my pc in.

What should I do? I need to access the BIOS utility to change the settings of the RAM, or is there something else that I forgot who will be able to get my pc to the top and running properly again?

Thanks for your advice in advance!

Remove the memory module that you added.  If the computer can be started without him, then the module is defective or is not compatible with your computer.

  • Customers of Windows automatically restart after the upgrade of the tools

It's scary. I just upgraded one of my ESX to ESXi 4.1 Update 1 clusters. I logged on to a Windows Server 2003 client and clicked to upgrade VMware tools. Nothing seemed to happen, then, after a few minutes, that I noticed that the icon in the toolbar of VMware Tools turn red, then he returned to the blue without any warnings and the tools of State on the host said 'OK '. As it was just done in the background.

Then it just restarts the host without asking...

Has anyone seen this? Looks like a pretty serious bug to me.

    Matt

When you upgraded to VMware tools - did you choose the Interactive - or non-interactive?

Interactive - will allow you to stop restarting

Not interactive - does it automatically

  • Satellite P200 - restarts after a stop

    Hi guys

I hope someone can help because it is driving me crazy. I have Vista 32 bit installed Premium. I have a Satellite P200 13Z laptop and when I properly close down the with Lalonde to start / stop the laptop goes through the procedure correct stop, but after about 10 seconds, it restarts.

This only happens when the power cord is connected. When I unplug the power cable and shut down the portable computer remains off.

Can someone shed some light on what once more makes me crackers.

    Hey Buddy,

Have you plugged the external devices to your laptop, e. g. mouse, keyboard, USB HDD, or something else? If yes remove all these devices, they could cause these automatic starts.

I recommend also check the BIOS. You should find an option called Wake up on LAN and it should be disabled.
Also if you can find Wake up on keyboard disable this feature too.

  • Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE automatically restarts after a stop

    Hello

I have a question where my laptop start automatically after apparently past Hibernate and shutdown by closing the lid. (I have it set so that it goes into hibernation when I close the lid.)
The strange thing is that this only happens when it is connected to the power supply. If I close the lid when on battery, it goes into hibernation and remains closed as it should.

It all started when I changed my power supply mode of "Balanced" to the 'Performance '. Put back to "Balanced" didn't help, and not affecting the setting the lowest. In addition, he used to come back from hibernation automatically once I opened the lid, this happens is no longer.

I'm not sure if it is a hardware or software problem.

This weekend I reinstalled the laptop using the recovery disks provided and applied all updates and patches for Vista, but the problem remains, so now I'm leaning more towards it being a hardware problem, even if I have no idea what kind of hardware malfunction could be the cause.

Does anyone have an idea what might cause this behavior?

All of these parameters are well known to me because I use the Satellite P200 with Vista. I have tested almost everything about the parameters energy saver and everything works fine. Saving energy for L40 and P200 is the same and there is no difference. Because of this I really can't imagine that there is a hardware problem.

I hope that you understand very well that you can set this for all profiles of three in two possible situations (on battery and plugged in). What should happen when the lid is closed belongs to Vista power settings. Try it please change all of these settings in the advanced power settings.

To be honest, I think you make a mistake.

  • Touchpad does not work and Equium automatically restarts after a stop

Something going wrong drasticaly yesterday. I wasn't doing anything elaborate, just work excel and I'm tired of the Tablet touch and 'connected' one infrared I smile sometimes use... it did not work too well, low battery level, I guess, so I returned to the touch pad... but the touchpad was now for some reason, doesn't work do not at all and did not since...

Turning off the laptop and was my solution, but he has not corrected the situation... the infra-red mouse works very well but with new batteries... on top of that, now when I turn the laptop off, it stops but then automatically starts once again, when a microsoft message appears saying that the computer has recovered from a serious error.

So since this episode, the touch pad does not work and the computer will stay off! And maybe it's me crazy, but some of the keys on the keyboard are more sensitive as they once were.

It was a satellite, and bought only in early January.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you

    Hello

Sound very mysteriously. However, as in the first answer mentioned the function FN + F9 turn off and turn on the touchpad.
I also recommend to check the Device Manager if all devices are working properly.
If you find any errors, but the problem persists then the step of text should be the reinstallation of the operating system. In this case, please use the recovery CD.

If the recovery procedure will not solve the problem, I guess there must be something wrong with the hardware and the ASP help is needed. Guys could start diagnostic tests and can locate the fault.
