  I have a problem with Windows Update on my computer Windows Vista 25 Nov. November 25, Windows Update told me of new updates and I chose the option to install the fix and the stop in the night and the system has been blocked to install update 3 of 5 for all night and then I had to turn off the system and remove the battery and restart the system. When I checked the view update history after the restart, he says that it has properly installed patches. Then, I have the same problem that Windows update crashes at installation of update 1 x and does not go further.

  It sounds as if there is something in the way of installation.  First of all, make sure that your system is free of malware\virus infections.  This thread has some great information on this topic: getting rid of malware.   If you do not find infections or even the question after removing them and then perform a clean boot , and then run updates.  Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

• Windows Update crashes when you try to download updates. (2 different BIT errors)

  When I press "install updates" in the windows update window, it says downloading updates... 0 percent and it freezes.

  I don't know if because it is not windows 7 specific, that i should even have to do that. The problem is that whenever I start CUTS in services, itll give me the error:

  In the event viewer, I have 2 errors. The first said "the BITS service was able to start. 2nd one that follows, error 0 x 80070005. ' said ' the Background Intelligent Transfer service completed with the specific service error %-2147024891.. »

  Thanks Kim, but could you be more specific about where the path of % ALLUSERSPROFILE might actually be on a standard installation of C:?

  I don't think that this folder exists nowhere in C:/users, including hidden files. Would be - it different in Windows 7?

  EDIT: Thanks for the help guys, I decided just to format, because that would be a guaranteed solution and everything seems to be working again now.

• Windows Update crashes when activated

  My computer started as a Vista Machine.  When I got my free upgrade to windows 7 64 bit I started to have a problem of Hanger with in minutes of boot upward.  I traced the problem occurs only when the computer has internet access.  I traced it further the windows Update as a problem when it is disabled the computer crashes is no longer. Update disabled, I am not able to check or download updates from the Microsoft site.

  How can I know what is the problem or how I should do next to fix this?

• Windows Update crashes frequently; requires restart

  I run Windows Update a bit now and then to stay up to date. However, WU was strange behavior for a while (months): sometimes it freezes with the window simply stay white and the cursor being the circle of waiting and sometimes it crashes when you click on the updates button control (once again the window is all just white). When this happens, I have to restart Windows - otherwise, I can't WU to work.

  The problem is that there is no error message and nothing in the newspapers - WU just freezes.

  I installed all the updates and keep my computer clean by regularly running anti-spyware and antivirus. This problem has existed for a few months now and I was not able to identify if I installed an update etc that might have caused this.

  I run Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, as an upgrade of Windows Vista Business. The problem WU is the only problem that I have.

  Any thoughts?

  I would recommend that you go and try the option boot than dmw86 recommended.  After a clean boot, run WU and check that it works, then put your PC to sleep for a few minutes then wake him up and try to WU.  Also, before you try this, you must restart your PC and WU before testing and then talk the PC to verify that the problem is after coming out of sleep.  Let us know the results. • Windows 7 Home Premium x 64: activation of the service Windows Update crashes my computer after upgrade RAM

  A few days ago I had two sticks of 2 GB GSkill RAM by mail. Here's the same brand, model and size as the pair currently installed (obviously). (Sticks alternate according to the specifications of the card from my mother)

  After you have installed the new RAM and the computer starts up, it freezes within about 30 seconds of connection. Before installing the new sticks, I had no problem whatsoever.

  My first thought is that I sit the RAM properly, then I go and reinstall it. I start, and the same thing happens.

  So obviously this RAM must be bad, right? When I take out news, not gel. Ah, but when I remove the OLD stuff and use new instead, I ALSO no gel. So maybe it is not the RAM.

  Then I reboot in safe mode. No gel. Interesting. I opened the window 'System' and it says "memory (RAM) installed: 4.00 GB ', which is correct." I opened CPU - Z, and it reports also 4 GB of memory. I run a few hours and have no problems whatsoever. So I say to myself, there must be either a Windows service or a 3rd party service is causing the issue and not the new RAM.

  I disable all services of 3rd parties and restart in normal mode. It freezes. OK, so maybe (though unlikely) I have a virus any (I say probably not because I have to) run the module additional firefox NoScript, and set to block all flash, javascript, xss, iframes, etc. - in other words, only allow to my whitelist and B) I have Windows Firewall and running McAffee and updated.). But I decided to first try Windows services for the hell of it.

  So I enable only the services that start in safe mode as my reference, disabling the rest via services.msc. I start normally and not gel. Great, then maybe it is a Windows service. I start which allows one service after another without any problem. I get to the bottom of the list and select the Windows Update service. Within literally 10 seconds my computer crashes. Large.

  As a validation test, I put all services back to the base line of safe mode and only allow Windows Update. I start normally, and again once it freezes.

  Another test of validation, I start with all normal, but disable Windows Update. Do not freeze. I'm going to start Windows Update. Yet once, it freezes for about 10 seconds. So clearly something is in place.

  As a third and final sanity check, I remove the new RAM and run a Windows Update. He finds a few optional updates, but not critical. My system is up2date.

  My only attempt to solve this problem so far was to backup all Windows Update DLLs (C:\windows\system32\wu*.dll, although I don't know if these are good) and do a scan sfc to replace them with copies of 'good '. It did not work.

  So my question is:

  Why cares Windows Update that I have 4 GB of memory installed?

  I think the USB storage is a separate issue. And.

  I think I * may * have solved the problem of origin with one or more of the following (don't know who):

  • Updated the software of the chipset of the card from my mother.
  • Updated HD Windows audio drivers to the recommended ASUS (Realtek) HD audio drivers
  • Updated since Windows installed NVIDIA display drivers for version NVIDIA WHQL.
  • Increased my tRFC (refresh time of line) to 70 52 clocks clocks. Set my GSKILL DRAM voltage recommended by 2.1V. Off the SPD DRAM configuration (I read that ASUS is not entirely based on the SPD and can affect things on its own).

  I had WU for 20 minutes from writing this post without a freeze, so we'll see. (Previously, it would freeze within 10 seconds of turning on WU)

  Running Windows 7 Pro (x 64)

  When I try to open Windows Update in Control Panel, it will not open. A "flag" Windows Update window will appear in my taskbar, but clicking just above brings the control panel.

  I was able to open Windows Update before I tried some things to fix this (edit: when I was able to open Windows before Update, it would freeze always upward after I clicked the button to install the updates - the rest of the system would be, but the Windows Update window was insensitive). What I did was run services.msc and tried to place the automatic Windows Update service (delayed) automatic - this change does not appear to have taken, however, as it is always set to automatic (delayed). I also tried to stop the service, but that has expired.

  The BITS service correspond to the following description: maybe I changed the startup type to automatic (that's what it is now worth, I remember more than the default value). The status of the service is listed as stopped, and when I try to start it, it gives me error 126: the specified module could not be found.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  EDIT: actually, maybe it is not frozen - instead, it's now fair to really take a long time to open, and each selection (like click to get information on the updates to install) takes more than 30 seconds or more. I'll try to update again and wait to see if anything changes.

  Also, I checked the history of update. The last update must be installed with success was the definition update Windows Defender (KB915597) 24/06/2010. All since then (and slightly before this date) failed. I can't give more details on what is the system may have changed because, apparently, the problem started months ago, and also because this is my girlfriend's computer; She did not notice that there was a problem until now.

  EDIT: OK, he supposedly started updated, but after the download/install progress window opens, it now seems to be frozen - it does not (the window cannot be moved, and the progress indicator is not animated) and downloaded/installed is stuck at 0 kb total/0% after several minutes.

  EDIT: I clicked back to the update of Windows and, for a while, the progress indicator was lively, but then he stopped again. Progress are still stuck at 0 kb/0%.

• Windows Update crashes to install malicious software update 20 of 23

  I was working on a computer, Windows XP Home Edition for a friend who was infected malware and had not been turned on since December.  I removed 135 malware and then decided to do the Windows updates.  Initially, he could get an IP address even when I put a static... I did some research and followed the instructions to recover from deformation of Winsock2.   Then I got on the Internet to make the updates of Windows.

  It hung for more than 3 hours on software update 20 malicious 23... I didn't write any extra info - sorry.  I said to cancel updates and went back to bed. 4 hours later he said always Cancel updated so I hard booted the computer.  I couldn't bring up the Task Manager, nothing would happen.

  Now when you click on a user, it hangs on loading personal settings or it go to the desktop, but you cannot open Internet Explorer or run programs.  You can click on start running, but if you type a command (cmd, regedit, msconfig) and click OK nothing happens.  If you try to restart in Mode safe mode using F8, and then select Safe Mode it will get as many load windowss\system32\drivers\agp440.sys, then he tells you the computer wasn't shutdown correctly and ask you to select the Mode.  I tried the Safe Mode, Safe Mode with network, Safe Mode command prompt, and I still can't mode without failure.   I also tried the last good known Configuration and that doesn't work anymore.

  Finally I put a Windows XP Home CD into the CD player and I got it to boot from the CD Rom it says its inspection system for quite a long time and then it asks you to insert the Windows XP Home Service Pack 1 disc (that's all I had) CD and press.  I hit enter and I'm in a loop.

  I can also do a start, stop, or restart, it just sits there.  I have to restart from the CPU.

  Any ideas where I'm going from here?
